We really enjoyed this place. We had a bungalow on the beach front. It was amazing waking up every morning to see the sunrise. The grounds are very well kept with beach chairs and hammocks big enough for 2 people. They have 2 swimming pools, although we only used the one closest to our room. We did enjoy food in the restaurant, at the pool and had room service. We like the location of the resort because it's far enough away from the busy town of San Pedro but close enough to other restaurants and bars that you can walk to them. We did rent a golf cart at the resort for 24 hours to do a little exploring, but our main goal was to just hang out and relax. We did do one excursion where we got picked up at out dock. That was great and convenient. I would stay here again, and I do recommend.

This resort is such a wonderful place to stay. The rooms are well equipped, clean and comfortable. The location is good. North of town by a 5 minute golf cart ride and on the way to Secret Beach. The best part of this resort has got to be the service. Alexis at the front desk has been there a long time and will help you sort out your perfect vacation. He goes above and beyond, answering questions leading up to your arrival, organizing tours and your golf cart rental and making you feel heard and understood. He is truly OUTSTANDING! Mr. Roger in the activities desk area is great as well. He will help organize anything you want to do in a timely manner. The restaurant crew is great as well. Ronaldo always has a smile and will organize a fabulous meal or cocktail and Adam is chill and very good at his job too. Can’t say enough about Captain Morgan’s! Thanks so much to them!!

This was our second trip to San Pedro. Yet our first trip to Captain Morgan’s retreat. The staff was amazing. The resort itself was a bit rundown. However, you can see the progress of the rebuild. I’m sure it will be amazing when they are done. We look forwforward to seeing it all finished.

I've been to Captain Morgan's Retreat several times in the last ten years. Each visit is a little more disappointing than the last. Not that the staff and folks working there are sub-par, because they aren't. They're the friendliest, happiest, most helpful and most anxious to please people I've ever encountered at a resort. They go out of their way to accommodate every reasonable request. Ronald took such good care of us; anything we needed or wanted, he was our personal helper and provider. Roger hooked us up with folks (Nelson and Martin) who delivered the best, most personalized and two of the most pleasant excursions we've ever gone on. The two young ladies who served us our meals went above and beyond every time we visited the restaurant. (I wish I could remember their names, they were both rays of sunshine and I loved chatting with them while waiting for our meals to be prepared.) The gals who provided our massages, back scrubs and facials were exceptional at their craft. The all over Swedish massage, back scrub and facial and the ladies who provided them were wonderful! The maid service was excellent. The staff at Captain Morgan's are some of the most extraordinary folks we've ever encountered in our travels. They delivered service to the highest standard. What was lacking at Captain Morgan's was atmosphere and ambience. Years ago, there was a nice beach but now there's no beach there to speak of. And for some reason, on what little bit remained of the beach and at the pool nearest the beach the bugs were ferocious this trip. I don't remember them being such a problem on previous trips. We had to mix Off Deep Woods with our sunscreen, but even so, on the last day there, the bugs feasted on us. I came back to the States looking like I had chicken pox on my legs. One of the three pools and the two more modern condo buildings that used to be available to guests of Captain Morgan's are now privately owned. Captain Morgan's said we could still use the pool, but visitors are strongly discouraged by the owners from using the pool, with some of them even going so far as telling folks staying at the resort that they weren't welcome. The resort store was sparser than it used to be and not well stocked. The main pool, the pool bar and the deck with steps to the beach that used to be at the resort are gone. Construction was ongoing on two sides in the main pool area while we were there; it was literally pool side. Even though swimming in the main pool was allowed, who would want to swim in there with the construction crews there every day of the week and just inches away? The big open airy expanse of the main pool deck that used to have fantastic views of the beautifully kept resort grounds and buildings, and the Caribbean were blocked by a new building in progress and scaffolding. The noise from construction, while not deafening or loud, persisted most of the day. The construction crew members were nice to the guests and were pleasant enough when interacting with us. Sadly, when the new construction is done, I was told by staff there that the view that used to be there won't be anymore.A few years ago, a bridge was constructed over "the inlet" and has opened a direct connect straight to downtown San Pedro. The bridge has opened things up so much since then that the resort has lost all the quiet and remoteness that made it such a wonderful place to vacation at a couple of years ago. We used to be able to walk along the beach and find a plethora of nice restaurants on the caye; we could have dinner at a different restaurant every night; we weren't able to do that the last two times we were there. Most of the restaurants are gone. The Capricorn is still there though, and it's just a real short walk from the resort by beach. I can't say enough good about the Capricorn. Dinner there was one of the trip's highlights. The casino at Captain Morgan's never opened. There's a road behind the resort now with lots of golf cart traffic and dump trucks and construction and utility vehicles traversing it daily. So noisy and folks drive so fast along it that you can't walk on either side of it without feeling like you have to be on constant alert for oncoming or behind you traffic. Also a lot of unfinished, or started and then stopped building, along the road on the back side of the resort. Some areas along the road are trashy looking and godawful unsightly. And there's an electronics and lighting store just behind the resort now. I guess that's progress, but I miss the peace and quiet and charm and the "away from civilization" feel of the resort of ten years ago.

The resort was perfect for our honeymoon. The staff was incredibly friendly, the restaurant had great food and the spa was so amazing I went twice in one week! Prior to arriving, Victor (resort staff/lead) confirmed our stay via WhatsApp and inquired if we needed transportation accommodations. He got us set up right away with a golf cart, which made our trip that was easier. We set up excursions with Roger and left right from the resort. We enjoyed a half day of snorkeling and a private fishing and lobster diving trip, with our fresh catch cooked right on the beach. The resort was recommended to us by family friends and now we highly recommend to others.

Overall, nice retreat! Clean, fun and the 3 bedroom condo was great! The little grocery store was ok. The atmosphere was quiet and relaxing. Only complaint was the dog kept scratching and barking at our upstairs door at night. Other than that a nice place to stay 😊

We have been visiting San Pedro for over 20 years and have stayed at several resorts. We have accessed Captain Morgan’s restaurant, spa and bar several times and considered purchasing there. We were very disappointed in the condition of the resort during our recent stay and will not stay there again. It is looking old and run down and the new construction doesn’t match the charm of the older style. It is clear that ownership has changed and not for the better. We did enjoy our spa experience and Ronald at the restaurant was great, although food service was very slow at times. We had to move from our 1st room due to getting sick from the black mold in the AC unit.

I so much wanted to give this a 5 star rating: the beach, pool, restaurant all could have been exceptional. We had a very nice time, two couples enjoying a week of scuba, drinking, and eating. All these issues are so easy to correct: 1) Our request for water in our room was denied; we had to haul 5 gallon water jugs about 100 yards to our room. 2) The waterfront was consumed by sargassum seaweed. Other resorts hired workers to remove the seaweed by truck for landfill. 3) Although the room was designed to accommodate six, there were only three forks and no saucepans; the restaurant accommodated us by loaning us a saucepan. We had to loan our toaster to a neighbor whose unit lacked a toaster. An overly strict sounding note in our kitchen warned us not to steal the kitchen items as a fine of 75$ would be levied. 4) The pool bars were (permanently?) closed so we brought our own drinks. A giant casino in the center of the property was also (permanently?) closed. Abandoned construction of a new building on-site. I suspect this resort used to be amazing and has been allowed to deteriorate by new management. It certainly is not a 4 star resort.

I cannot say enough good things about Captain Morgan Resort. The room was so beautiful and spacious. It had a little sitting area in the front facing the water where we had our morning coffee which was so peaceful. It is far enough away from everything to give you a really peaceful vibe, but close enough that you can easily get to where you want by golf cart (which the staff arranged for us). The staff was amazing. Our trip overall was great, but without the staff here it would not have been the same experience. Everyone was so kind and made us feel extremely welcome. The food was really good and the restaurant staff was so friendly. Phil and Jairo were absolutely incredible. I cannot say enough good things about them. They were both so helpful In figuring out arrangements for everything we needed and wanted to do. Without them, we really would not have had the incredible experience that we did.

The staff was very nice and helpful. Our unit was good but a bit outdated. There is some construction going on.The casino on site is not operating. The food was good but we did get fooled on one night for the BBQ we were told if we wanted to try two entrees we could for the same price as one( $35) but with smaller portions. When the bill came we were charged $70 for the ones who chose two.All four of us had questioned the waiter and he assured us the price would be the same. Needless to say we were not happy and only went there for one more meal.Found the Capricorn restaurant and were very happy there. The biggest disappointment is the beach area. They are inundated by sargassum seaweed which covers the beach area and smells HORRIBLE.We did go on a snorkeling trip from the tours there which was beautifull but the nearest place to swim in the ocean was Secret Beach which was a long ride over bumpy roads in our rented golf cart. the roads are HORRIBLE.I know the seaweed is affecting the entire sea but if we had known we would not have gone there.
