We spent the last four nights of our honeymoon here after traveling from their sister resort, Gaia Riverlodge. The resort was incredible and the staff and tour guides were extremely knowledgeable and friendly. We enjoyed kayaking out to the reef for snorkeling, relaxing by the beach and pool, and taking a golf cart into town to visit the local shops. A big highlight of the trip was the Beach BBQ excursion where our terrific tour guide Captain Samir took us off shore to fish. While out there he helped us reel in a barracuda! After we completed our catch, we went to a beach where he prepared the barracuda for us on the grill. It was our favorite meal of the trip and a truly unforgettable experience!

We stayed at Matachica for a week in October 2023 and absolutely loved it. October is a great time to go, it is before the busy time in November, but with great weather - it felt like we had the resort to ourselves at times. We enjoyed the casitas, as they were private, but still close to anything we would need. The casitas were cleaned everyday and the staff checked on us daily to make sure we had everything we needed (including bringing coffee/water by every morning). The gym is sufficient and had enough for us to get weight training in before starting our day. The food was great, if you have the opportunity to do the Captain's table, do it. It is a good way to try various small plates of authentic cuisine and Moises does a great job walking you through each dish. Excursions from Matachica were so easy, everything is taken care of by folks like Captain Charlie and Aaron that make sure your excursion is the best it can be. We were lucky to be at Matachica during the "ring of fire" solar eclipse, so we all went out and had a special snorkeling trip with food and drinks to view the eclipse out on the boat. Egar does an excellent job making arrangements for excursions, both prior to arrival and last minute while on-site. One night a week they setup a movie night that is silent-disco style, so you can enjoy the movie if you want and not be bothered if you don't want to watch. All the staff was friendly and really went out of their way to make sure we were enjoying ourselves and had everything we needed. Amy took an excellent candid video of us walking on the pier at sunrise and sent it to us later (thanks, Amy!). The Caye Caulker excursion is fantastic, we swam with sharks/rays, fed tarpon, and hung out on Caye Caulker for a day (get the street food). Taco, and the other dogs, are super friendly and come by to say hello before going on about their daily dog stuff. All of the negative reviews on here are absurd; is it pricey? yes, but you get what you pay for. Is it far away from town? not really, its far enough away to not be bothered, but a 20 min golf cart ride to anything you would want. If you want a relaxing place with good food, drinks, and staff that really excel in making you feel welcome, go to Matachica. Also, can't wait to try their sister resort, Gaia. Everyone we spoke to that went there said it was the rain forest equivalent of Matachica. See you next time!!

We had such an amazing time reef fishing with Captain Sam and Lucas that we booked two more days of it!! They are the type of guides you hope for when you travel: they know the area, the water, the winds, and adjust as the day progresses! We had so many great experiences and encounter, but our three excursions with them were our favorite part of staying at Matachica!!

Stayed here for our honeymoon and were blown away. It was private, relaxing, but enough adventure to choose from that it kept you the perfect balance of relaxed and entertained. The food is absolutely to die for, we ate the best seafood all day every day. The beach huts were extremely clean, modern, upgraded, and uniquely decorated. The staff was extremely friendly, especially Moses! Hospitality is the name of the game here. Will be coming back. Also they're sister resort Gaia has a Reef and Rainforest package which is the best of both worlds!

We visited Matachica from Nov 8 - Nov 14. The staff was helpful and responsive with all of our questions prior to our visit. We arrived and everyone was pleasant, professional, and welcoming. We chose this resort for the location, accommodations, and because it is an adult only resort. This resort allowed us to relax and recharge. There are no TVs for distractions. The food is amazing. I would like to thank the following for their hospitality. Marinelli, Jennifer, Alma, Julio, Lil, and Brenda. Keys things to note: The primary mode of transportation around the island is a golf cart once you get settled in. The mosquitoes are relentless during rainy season.

Matachica was definitely a memorable experience. My wife surprised me for my 40th and planned everything with the staff. Thanks to the staff for their amazing service. From the front desk to the excursions, they provided us with the best level of service we could ask for. The manager Wolfgang even drove us to our excursion, so thank you for that! Accommodation and amenities were great as well. The spa was top notch and the pool and restaurants were excellent. The rooms were extra clean and comfortable. We rented a golf cart which the company delivered to the front entrance of the hotel. Overall, would definitely recommend to others, A+ resort!

From the moment you land on Ambergris Caye to departure, the staff at Matachica takes care of everything! The staff really pays such good attention to you. Egar, amazing. He’s concierge and took care of all of our activities. I overly texted him before we came bc I was so wanting to have all my activities pre planned, but after getting here I saw that it all happens very fluidly, without the guest worrying about anything. We were in need of a doctor and Egar was very attentive to the situation and got us care. The snorkel trip to Mexico Rocks, done by captain Joe and Samir was another win. Now the food…we ate beautiful and delicious meals from breakfast to dinner. Excellent everything! Already planning our next stay

As honeymooners, our priority was to relax, spend quality time together and not need to make too many plans in advance. Matachica delivered on that in many ways, though, there are a few things that I think folks should be prepared for. Starting with all the good--the casitas are beautiful. We were in Strawberry right on the beach and it was stunning and the bed was quite comfortable. The resort is really quiet and peaceful with a beautiful dock and amazing pool. They have complimentary kayaks and if you head out for about 10 mins, you'll be rewarded with a beautiful reef to snorkel around with no other groups nearby. They offer a good variety of excursions and we really enjoyed Mexico Rocks and Captains Table in particular and found all the guides and staff to be knowledgeable and friendly. Jade Spa was lovely and we loved playing with Taco, the resort dog. What can be improved--the air conditioning in the casita can only be felt if you're right in front of it. We ended up sleeping upside down on our bed because we kept overheating and not getting enough air. We were very aware of the location being far from San Pedro which we didn't mind at all, but what we didn't consider is that you will get stir crazy because there's truly nowhere else to go. You can't take a stroll along the beach because there are private properties who have signs saying you can't walk through. And if you try to walk on the main road, there are no sidewalks and giant piles of sorgassum that smell awful. We felt trapped. By far the biggest downside was the cost and quality of the food. When you're isolated, you are relying on the resort for all of your meals and the menu never changes. No specials, and very little seafood despite being on the beach. It's a carb-heavy menu and doesn't introduce you to the local flavors of Belize and after a few days, it gets boring. It's also wildly expensive. We knew we'd be paying more at a resort than in town, but these were more like San Francisco prices for very average food. In 4.5 days we spend $2,000 on food, two excursions, a spa treatment, and half day golf cart. I wouldn't come back or recommend Matachica because the value and quality just isn't there.

Dear sophiejs13 Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback about your recent stay with us. I am terribly sorry to hear that you were not entirely satisfied with the price and value of our restaurant menu. It is important to note that our menu, unlike any other in the country, has been curated by a wonderful and highly skilled team of both international and local chefs and offer fresh produce grown in our own Gaia organic garden, home-baked goods developed and baked by a professionally trained pastry chef and his team, and serves fresh seafood caught in the waters of Belize and Mexico. The menus offer fresh proteins- fish, seafood, pork, beef, poultry, tofu and fresh fruit and vegetables and from our point of view are not particularly carb heavy. As well, we make a concerted effort to offer a variety of local and Central American dishes, balanced by offering both international cuisine as well. The menus are unique, interesting and it is delicious. Equally distinctive is our location, set in a beautiful and very unique seaside environment with wonderful views of the reef and far from the noise and hustle of San Pedro. I am sorry that you were disappointed and that you didn’t appreciate the overall experience as much as we would have hoped you would. I am a bit surprised to hear that you found our resort's remote location from town to be a drawback. Ironically, we actually celebrate our location as a beautiful and peaceful escape, located just five miles (ten-minute boat ride, twenty-minute golf cart ride) from the bustle of San Pedro town. Close enough to get into town, but mercifully far enough to escape to our slice of quiet and intimacy. Most of our guests are pleased to visit town once or perhaps twice during their stay, but typically prefer to stay put and enjoy the tranquility of our location. For those who are looking for more action, the bar scene or nightlife, Matachica is not an ideal destination. Had we known that this was a priority, we would have counselled you to opt for alternatives more centrally located. We are glad that you appreciated the unique access to the reef, the beauty of our casitas, the fun of the Captain's Table experience, and our beautiful pool, pier and seafront and that you were able to enjoy our personalized tours and our wonderful Jade spa. Hopefully those will provide wonderful memories that will surpass your disappointment with the menu pricing and selection. Thank you once again for choosing our resort and we truly appreciate your feedback. Best regards, Wolfgang Brandl Managing Director Matachica Resort & Gaia Riverlodge
