The hotel was showing its age, but was old in a homey sort of way. The bed was comfortable and housekeeping kept the room clean and well stocked. The hotel was experiencing a change in ownership while we were there, so there were a couple of hiccups in food availability. Service in the restaurant was excellent, and the front desk attendants went out of their way to make our stay worth remembering. I have since heard that the new owners are making some substantial improvements, including expanding the size of the pool (which was also kept spotless). A Mom-and-Pop taco stand went up across the street every day and that, along with the ice cream parlor next door to it, more than made up for the temporary food issues. We would definitely stay there again!

Thank you for your thoughtful review! We’re pleased to hear that you found the bed comfortable and appreciated the cleanliness and excellent service from our staff. We understand that the hotel’s age showed during your stay, but we’re excited to share that significant updates are underway under the new ownership, including an expanded pool. We’re also glad to hear that the local taco stand and ice cream parlor added to your experience and helped with the temporary food availability issues. Your understanding and kind words mean a lot to us. We look forward to welcoming you back and providing an even better experience in the future!

A cute and smaller resort, rooms are steps away from the beach. Quiet location close to local amenities. Rooms are reminiscent of a higher end B and B super cute, compact and very clean! Air conditioning works phenomenally well. Nice pool barely used! What makes this site so valuable is the dedicated local team who are honestly invested in making sure all visitors enjoy their trip to their country, they go over and above to make you feel welcome. The bartenders attracted locals and residents from other resorts due to their personable and high quality service. The food was well made and reasonably priced everything from local dishes to one of the most delicious pizzas I’ve ever eaten. Drinks were well made, bartenders knowledgeable however a slight decrease in price and a wider variety of products and I probably would not ventured elsewhere as the ambience and environment was enough to keep me content to spend all my time in the evenings there. A dedicated security team makes this site super secure. I can honestly say without this service I probably would not of enjoyed my stay as much as I did. I never go to the same place twice but for this quality of service I am considering returning to San Pedro and this site. In all my trips around the world this is service like no other!
Marsee to the amazing crew at Mata Rocks!

Pros: friendly staff, room was overall clean and had no weird smells that you usually get with oceanfront hotels. The mini fridge had a decent size freezer and there were a few plates and bowls and general kitchen supplies. There are a few little grocery stores nearby and it was nice to have coffee and water on hand. A guy comes in the morning to rake the sand and maintain the grounds. You can tell they are trying to make what they have nice.

Cons: The resort is pretty run down. My shower knob was broken, balcony table was broken. The first time I tried to use the balcony blinds they broke and I was afraid to use them again.
Most rooms have balconies facing the pool/bar area. So if there are people down there partying late it’s impossible to ignore. But when the downstairs is empty it was very peaceful - just depends on how busy the hotel is. Out of my 4 nights only 1 had a rowdy group downstairs - but I’m a very early riser and my bedtime reflects that.

Overall it was a very quiet, peaceful hotel, but you are quite isolated. I didn’t rent a golf cart but instead elected to walk along the beach to find places to eat.

Pay attention!
In mid-October 2022 we made a reservation for one week through booking with the possibility of cancellation free of charge.
Days later we cancelled this reservation, but Mata Rocks had already debited 50 % of the credit card immediately.
In the terms and conditions it is written that the refund lasts 30 days. After this period we wrote two emails to ask for a refund,
When we didn't get any answer, we had to turn to Booking.
Thanks to Booking's customer service, we got our refund a few days later!
It is regrettable that we had to waste time and money, as we lost 75 dollars with this refund.
Where is the seriousness of this place?
We had the opportunity to walk around the outside of the hotel and there is no beach, but a concrete wall.
Dirty, just doesn't look taken care of.

This hotel was absolutely perfect. The ambiance makes you feel like you are staying at a boutique resort; relaxation meets luxury. The grounds are gorgeous and well maintained. I love the floral arches and beach vibe. Dorell at the front desk was amazing. So helpful and friendly. He went out of his way to make sure we were well taken care of. The beach views from our room were gorgeous. The restaurant/bar and pool area is perfect. This hotel offers complimentary bikes, paddle boards and kayaks. We used the kayaks and it was a great way to explore the area.
The hotel is towards the south end of the island, which offered a quiet escape from the bustling north end. By golf cart, it took approx. 5 minutes to the airport, and about 10 the main beach/restaurant strip.

This hotel is smaller than many with great bedroom views of the barrier reef. It is a very quiet part of town. Everything is freshly painted, mattresses are sublime and the staff are so kind. On our day of arrival in Belize City we were so late that we should have missed our connecting flight. Maya airlines delayed the flight and airline told us that Mata Rocks staff had phoned to see if we made it! The hotel has canoes that can be borrowed to paddle out to the Barrier Reef buoy, tied up and you can snorkel the reef. There are are also golf carts and bycycles to use. Robin’s cafe is 500 feet away. I definitely recommend.

Mata Rocks was beautiful, and the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. We were some of the first people to stay at Mata Rocks after new ownership and we could tell that each staff member took the time to make us feel so special and welcomed even while they were still trying to set up and while construction was going on. Anita, Elliot, and Jose helped us plan our trips and get the necessary equipment (arranging taxis, golf carts to Secret Beach, bicycles to go further in town, etc.). The breakfast every morning and the drinks at the bar were delicious. The location was perfect too: far enough away from the main town but still close to a lot of really great restaurants that were in walking or biking distance. We definitely recommend Mata Rocks to anyone looking to have a beautiful stay in Belize with very friendly and welcoming hosts!

The word resort in their name is a stretch. It is a very run down and outdated facility. Staff was nice but did not always follow through. The pool did not look like a place you would want to swim. The room was clean. The patio door would not open, the front door had a curtain nailed to it for privacy. We picked this place due to friends stayung here years ago, but it has obviously changed. One of the workers told us a new owner is going to remodel in the next couple of months.

We just spent a glorious 12 day family vacation in San Pedro on Ambergris Quay where we took full advantage of the ocean activities :(scuba/snorkel/swim) and daily outings to wonderful food vendors. Mata Rocks, our beachfront hotel was clean, safe and friendly. Our staff was most accommodating ( especially Everett) and even upgraded us when we ran into a problem with our room. Continental breakfast is limited and they don’t have a restaurant on site but there is a beach bar. However, we used their free bikes daily to cycle to town on the beach and it was a blast! They also offered free taxi service to and from the pier upon arrival and departure.
The island is extremely friendly and the locals are amazing! Sea grass, although quite prolific, affected the beach area in front of Mata Rocks from time to time and should be managed more carefully. We did find that other areas of the beachfront did a better job of cleaning it up.

When you come up to Mata Rocks and leave the street to back of the property it is like a different world. You are right on the beach front a small pool and bar with lounge chairs on the beach and by the pool. Elliot the manager was most helpful when we arrived to make us feel comfortable and to acclimate to the area.

The rooms were very nice it had a queen bed, fridge, sink and microwave which you pick up some items for you stay at the Super Buy. The room was clean and neat. The shower is only complaint it did not have very good water pressure.

Elliot help us arrange a snorkeling excursion to Mexico Rocks with Serious Adventures.
Alll in all this was great property to stay at in San Pedro, Ambergris Caye, Belize.

You can swim in the ocean in front of the hotel We put a seawall in last summer due to beach erosion. We put a ladder off the end of the dock for easy acces. I will say the best visibility is at the reef which the staff can arrange trips to. Terry
