We shared the 3 bedroom Maya apartment with another couple. After extensive research we decided on the Maya Beach hotel and it exceeded our expectations!!!!! So happy we did not reserve the condo that was a close contender in placencia. The bistro has incredible food....More
My family and I stayed just down the road, but we ate here twice. The food and drinks were both wonderful and inventive. The service was very friendly and the setting was fantastic, right on the beach. As I said, we did not stay here,...More
After 10 days of snorkeling, zip lining, ruins climbing, and more with family members, my husband and I had a week at the Maya Beach Hotel by ourselves. Love this place and recommend it to anyone who wants a peaceful, quiet, comfortable, and relaxing vacation...More

We stayed for a week in a bungalow. It was quiet, nice size for 2, sliding glass doors with a beautiful front porch view. The house has AC and was fully equipped for cooking. It even had bamboo sheets and beach towels. What luxury! Would...More

There is a small shuttle airport on Placencia, that you can fly into and out of to BZE. I can't tell you about rental cars but if you are staying on the peninsula I would recommend a golf cart (yes, they are allowed on the road but be back before dark because there are no street lights and it is very dark). Consider hiring a car and driver if you want to travel around for a day or two or take a tour to the various sights. We stayed in the Flip Flop Palace at the Maya Beach Hotel (they can help with transportation to/from the airport). Maya Beach hotel is NOT a big, glitzy hotel but small, very nice and quiet (read the reviews). We stayed there for 10 days. The restaurant is the best in the area and is a short beach walk. There are 4 rooms in the Flip Flop Palace, 2 upper and 2 lower. We stayed in #2 upper, if you want to be on the beach take a lower. There is a scuba shop in town that has very nice scuba/snorkle trips (you can swim with nurse shark).

We used Splash DIve Center and every detail was perfect! Patty and her staff have several boats and customized the dive for us. My husband and I love to hunt Lionfish so we had our own divemaster and they took us to sites where we were able to remove over 30 Lionfish on 2 dives. The lunch on the island was excellent and the Divemasters filleted the Lionfish for us and The Bistro at Maya Beach prepared them for Dinner. My husband and I are both Dive Instructors and have worked in the industry for more than 10 years, so we are pretty critical and safety conscious and Splash was really outstanding. I reviewed them as well here on tripadvisor, January 3,2017.
