Tranquility Lodge is a lovely place to stay in the south of Belize. The Punta Gorda area is not very built up yet. The Lodge is about 15-20 minutes from the town, and close to the Mayan sites of Lubaantun and Nim Li Punit.
I highly recommend this lodge for a variety of reasons. The location in the far south of Belize is perfect for those wanting great birdwatching and local culture along with a rainforest/unspoiled environment where far fewer tourist go. The grounds are quiet and lovely with...More

As a group of ten archaeology mavens and friends, we chose this B&B for its closeness to incredible Mayan ruins. We found it perfect for many other reasons, - gorgeous rainforest setting, comfortable beds, large rooms with amenities and delicious meals! The hosts were most...More
I have to tell the story of how we arrived: soaked like lost puppies after a tropical deluge, caught on a dirtbike with only a backpack between the two of us. Everything we owned was wet. Suzanne and Lee took us in like long-lost relatives...got...More

I'm not sure if Lee checks TripAdvisor for comments, but my wife and I were guests at Tranquility Lodge last June (2014), so I can at least tell you what we did . . . There are some trails right on the property, as well as swimming (though the rains had made the creek/swimming hole muddy when we were there). We went to the Mayan sites of Lubaantun and Nim Li Punit one day, with a stop at Coleman's Restaurant, all of which I can recommend. We also went to the Mayan site of Uxbenka, which isn't as well excavated/developed, and was part of a trip that I don't think is normally available. You can also go to a local chocolate factory. We ran out of time to do that, so can't comment on what it's like. But it's chocolate, so how bad could it be?
We were supposed to go kayaking on one of the local rivers, but a big rainstorm prevented that (which is why we went to Lubaantun and Nim Li Punit). There are a couple of kayaking options in the area.
