Detailed Reviews
My wife and I had been traveling around Southern Peru for a few weeks and then flew straight to Guatemala for a meeting we had. The owner of Guatefriends picked us up at the airport for free which is only a two minute drive from the airport. In my opinion, she should charge $3 which is about what it costs to park her car as she waits for guests. Anyway, she is super friendly and gave us tons of good ideas and she was nice to converse with her. The Hostel is very clean and super safe. Breakfast is included and she has laundry service as well. Internet works fantastic and there is free filtered water for guests. The first time we stayed there for a couple of nights because it was so relaxing and we felt at home. All the bedrooms have a big flat screen TV with cable. The owner and her husband are so nice they drove us to the place where my wife and I had a meeting. It was hard to find a taxi that day as they would have charged a lot so the owner charged us a minimum amount and seemed happy to drive us.
Why a life saver? On the way back to Peru, we stayed there again because of its convenience, low price, safety and airport service. As it turns out, right before arriving to the hostel, my wife twisted her ankle pretty bad and we were afraid it may have been broken. We arrived around 8:30 pm. Keep in mind that we had a flight at 5am and needed to be at the airport at 3am. The owner quickly got into action mode and without showing that she was annoyed, she drove us to two different hospital so that she could have her ankle looked at. We finally found a good place to take her to. Unfortunately we forgot to bring my wife’s documents. We dropped my wife off at the hospital and the owner and I went back to the hostel to pick up her documents. She never once complained. My wife was in the hospital for a while and in the meantime the owner waited patiently outside for us. They put a cast on her foot and once done at the hospital at 12:30 am we needed to stop at the pharmacy, cash machine and get something to eat. She did all this for us never once complaining and with a smile on her face. By the time we got back to the hotel, it was 1:30 am which meant in 1 ½ hours we had to take off to the airport. She literally spent all night awake with us never once making us feel bad and with a super amazing attitude. She charged us next to nothing. I felt bad we could not offer her more money for all her cervices that night. She told me something I will always carry with me… “It is not always about money and you can’t push your heart aside in times of needs.” She taught my wife and I a great lesson that night on hosting and on caring for your fellow human being.

We stayed at Guatefriend's just for one night before flying out of the country and it was very convenient. It's 1km from the airport and the price included a ride to the airport, which was great.
The people running Guatefriend's were nice and it had a family feel to the place. Especially after all the negative stuff I'd read about Guatemala City, I felt very safe there.
Rooms were clean and bright, and the showers were good and hot.
If you were staying for longer, there is a kitchen and a dining area.
All in all, very good. The only gripe I have is that our bill was surprisingly expensive. It might just be in comparison to other places in Guatemala, but one night and dinner came to the same as three nights elsewhere. Tax isn't included in the price quoted and if you need to pay by credit card another 6% gets added on.

I loved my stay at Guatefriends! The host, Ruth, was super friendly and super helpful. She even gave me a ride to the airport! I liked the neighborhood around there and even though google doesn't show it, there are a number of stores to buy snacks and drinks, as well as roadside food stalls up on the main Avenue. If you walk out of the hostel and go right, you'll get to an army base. Curve left with the road and go to the main street. Along the way there are security guards at different spots and I felt safe walking around. The pics I included are from the food stall, not from Guatefriends. Please say "Hi" to Ruth!

Wonderful little B&B! I flew in to Guatemala City at 11pm, and the owner came to pick me up promptly. I had to get to Panajachel the next day (New Year's Eve), and she suggested that we leave early to go back to the airport in case the shuttles were busier than usual. So despite our late arrival, she got up at 7am to cook me breakfast (coffee, scrambled eggs, and toast) and then drove me back to the airport, and also stopped at an ATM on the way because I needed to get some cash out.
The accomodations are small and basic but it more than met my needs for an overnight stop right by the airport. The place is colorful and inviting, with very fast free wifi, a small library, and was very clean overall. The only drawback is that it is so close to the airport that you can hear planes landing and taking off, which may or may not be an issue for some people. I would highly recommend this place if you need to stay nearby for an early flight the next day, or if you are arriving on a late flight, and you are not planning on spending any time in Guatemala City.

I came in late and was picked up as soon as i walked out of the airport. The shuttle driver was so kind and sweet. She made many suggestions on places to visit and things to see. The staff was great. They were attentive and responsive. The rooms were amazing and the food is so comforting. I would suggest this bed & breakfast to all travelers looking for security and a home away from home. I cant stress it enough how important good customer service is and what a difference it can make in a stay. I loved it.

I loved staying at this bed and breakfast! It has been my favorite of all the places I have stayed before. They picked me up from the airport for free which saved me a lot of hassle and they had complimentary internet. The food was so delicious and I'm so excited to go back in May of next year! You have a new customer for life! Thank you so much!

Me and our group of 25 people stayed at Guatefriends over spring break and we stayed there two nights at the beginning and end of our stay in Guatemala. We basically rented the entire hostel for ourselves. Location was great. Its a minute from the airport and Libertad, the owner, was gracious enough to pick us up and take us back to the airport at no extra cost. She also offered us a delicious home cooked dinner at $5 a person when we arrived. The beds were comfortable, place was very clean, showers had hot water, and there's Wifi and a desktop computer for use. Breakfast was also included. I fully recommend it and would stay there again in the future.

We had big problems finding our other hostel we booked in advanced. After more than an our we asked at Guatefriends for help. Rutt was very friendly and helped us by calling the other hostel for us in spanish. After it didn't work out with the other hostel, we came back to Guatefriends for one night. Everything was just perfect. Nice, clean room, hot showers, tv and Rutt gave us a free lift to the airport at 5 a.m. (!!!). We can highly recommand this hostel for only one night stay to get your flight or for a longer stay as well.

My sisters and I stayed at Guatefriends for several days during our trip into Guatemala. The rooms were clean; fresh linen; sparkling bathrooms; and best of all; the best tasting organic coffee in town. The price was reasonable and the food was awesome! We rented a cell phone which we used during our trip. The hosts were very helpful with traveling information. We were very grateful. We certainly would love to come back to Guatefriends next time we come into town.
