Barceló Guatemala City has garnered praise for its cleanliness and central location, making it a convenient choice for guests looking to explore the city or access the airport. However, some reviewers have expressed concerns over the outdated decor in both common areas and rooms. While the staff's friendliness is often commended, issues with slow service and shuttle reliability are noted. Guests have called out the value as variable, with discrepancies in pricing. Additionally, despite appreciating the spacious rooms, travelers suggest that room amenities could benefit from modernization.

The hotel is beautiful and my duplex suite was perfect. The spiral staircase adds an elegant touch, complete with an upstairs and downstairs bathroom and televisions. And to top it off, my room included use of the Premium Level where you can indulge in breakfast, lunch, and dinner snacks and beverages- even alcoholic beverages! The staff was beyond friendly and I arrived at 1pm and was able to check in since my room was ready. I’m a solo American traveler and there is a McDonalds, Pizza Hut and KFC within a few feet of the hotel. Also, walking around felt very safe and officers are stationed at every block. I will definitely have to come back and complete the activities that I didn’t have time to complete. And oh, did I mention the fantastic views of the mountains/volcanoes from my room?! Breattaking!

The hotel is very nice. The service is very good, the room was on time and even noa let in 1 hour earlier. We were offered complimentary fruit in the room. The pool is warm and very clean. The breakfast buffet is worth it, is very rich and has variety. They have live music in the lobby and it's very nice. If you are traveling with children they can use the pool or sports court to run, but there are no more activities inside the hotel for them. If you like to exercise, it has a gym. And there are also a couple of pool tables to play with.

For convenience you can buy souvenirs in the store, but magnets are at least Q10 more expensive and clothes can be up to twice the price. I recommend paying in quetzals and not in dollars (in our most convenient case from pesos mxn to quetzals)

Cable TV is available in the room and the terraces are very nice to sit down and chat with.

It is super close to a McDonald's, Pizza Hut and KFC, even a LaTorre supermarket no more than two blocks from the hotel. Although the area is nice you don’t see people walking after 7-8pm (some local people told us it’s not very safe to walk on the street) Uber use is more practical.

The hotel offers free shuttle service to the airport.

If you expect big, fluffy pillows, it's not the place. Your pillows are thin and long (queen size/marital) you may feel little support around your neck.

The truth is that the service in the Hotel is superior to its economic value, feeling at home and safe is important for a person abroad. In addition, it has food services that are of high quality and even allow you to spend an afternoon enjoying the hotel and its lobby bar. I think that the main wealth of your hotel is its employees, always willing to serve and attentive to guests, it really is a quality and reliable hotel, where you always "get more than you pay for." And I say "always" because I have stayed with my family about 5 or six times and I would not change hotels.

The hotel is amazing when it concerns security, I never felt unsafe while staying here they take their job seriously. The housekeeping staff were amazing and made sure to keep the room stocked and clean. But there were some issues, prior to arriving I had booked a room with two double beds but when I checked in they told me there was no room available with two beds, they brought in a small cot that was not ideal. I asked to be moved to a room with two beds once one was available, but it wasn't until day three of my stay after insisting multiple times that they made the switch. On the second night of my trip, I received a call from the lobby at 3am they said concerning a noise complaint when I had no tv or music playing since I was sleeping, all I was told sorry we called you in error. The next morning, I let the lobby staff know that they had woken me and my elderly father up they said they would send a gift to my room as an apology for the inconvenience, but it never showed up. Also, I paid for two french toast breakfasts from room service and I was highly disappointed the orange juice was warm, the fruit was moldy, and they undercooked the bacon definitelydo not recommend.

The Hotel rooms are spacious and well furnished. The bathroom however should be a lesson of how NOT to maintain it. The tap is so stiff that one needs force to lift the tap handle to let the water run. The bath has nonslip strips which help but not sufficiently - a few more or a nonslip mat might be a solution. The shampoo dispenser disintegrates when the button to release the liquid is pushed. The sealant around bath tub is a mess … maintenance is laughable.
When in the bathroom I could hear every word spoken in the room next door. Acoustics worthy of an opera house!

Breakfast: well stocked and replenished frequently, however, we struggled to find a clean table to sit. They are inefficient in clearing and setting the tables and clearly there were not enough waiters to do the necessary work. Restaurant staff although not trained properly is very friendly.

We tried to contact the food and beverage manager at reception.
We waited fir him about 10 minutes but reception was unable to contact him. When we asked to speak to the manager the receptionist proceeded to write on the computer and asked for our room number . That was the only communication with us in about 5 minutes of her tapping the keys. No good morning, no we are trying to get the person responsible … nothing.

In conclusion, great pity that this hotel which could be very nice is not run as it should be.

I’ve received good comments on this hotel and I was so excited to finally stay at it. However, right from the start everything went so bad. When I made the reservation online I also contacted reservations to let them know my flight itinerary and to request the shuttle to pick us up at the airport. Our flight arrived at 5am and the shuttle didn’t pick us up so we had to pay for two taxis to fit all of our luggage plus my son’s wheelchair (of course we called the hotel but the operator said to call back at 8am) when we checked in at the front desk, we told the agent about the missing shuttle and he never apologized for the inconvenience and instead he told us to let them know in advance next time! Also, he tried to charge us $39 for early checking??? Even though we were paying for the day before checking…
We ordered breakfast from room service and it was really nice to hear a nice and very attentive order taker. The breakfast was terrible (see pictures)
Later we tried to take a shower and all the water splashes outside the glass door from the shower (see pictures) this is very dangerous as when you walk out of the shower you can easily slipped and fall… Also, we didn’t get our room cleaned even though we put the request outside our door knob and when we called front desk to let them know and to request towels the front desk agent told us that the Do not disturb sign was on the door knob and that they weren’t allowed to enter the room…hummm funny because if that was the case then why someone entered into our room and changed the fruit platter (see pictures) Lastly, we talked to the front desk agent to get a different room for the shower issues and to pay for an extra day but she rudely gave us a negative on both requests and told us to go online to make a reservation there at higher price. Which of course we declined to do and instead made a reservation at the Intercontinental Hotel which was day and night from what we experienced at the Barceló…

Always a pleasant experience when you settle into your rooms and beyond. The check-in process is somewhat slow and tedious, but once you get your room keys, you're good to go.
Though somewhat dated, their regular rooms are very clean and comfortable. I would recommend updating the electric outlets to include USB connectors for charging devices.
I've tried two of their restaurants, La Fuente and Strikers, and both hit the spot just about right, as the food selection and quality is very good.
The airport shuttle service is quite good and reliable. I'm not sure if it is always available, as I was once told that if it filled out (despite having a reservation), I would have to take one of the (very expensive) hotel taxis or get Uber service. Make sure you reserve your spot.
Although I've never used them, the pool and jacuzzi seem very nice. There's also a huge spa center, but I can't speak to it because I haven't used it either. The pool area is quite nice to hang out, and to get a quick bite or drink from The Pergola bar.
All in all, the Barceló Guatemala City is a very nice place to stay when in the city. Its closeness to the airport is a huge plus.

This hotel is exactly what I was looking for. Modern, timeless, clean, safe, and packed full of amenities. The hotel is gated, offers bell service, and the rooms are equipped with hot showers and toilets that you can flush TP down (very rare in Guatemala). Furthermore, the breakfast was amazing, the buffet occupied the entire restaurant and the options were virtually unlimited. Overall, this is my go to hotel in Guatemala City!

We enjoyed the proximity to the airport (5-10 min when no traffic), nearby commercial/hotel/restaurant areas (safe to walk around).

Breakfast was sumptuously served with some local varieties to try. There was a fresh fruit which was my favourite (I think it’s a local fig). Waiters all friendly and attentive.

There is a swimming pool with a hot tub enough for 10 but we never got to use it (too full) during our three day stay (should have gone early in the morning when there were nobody!!!)

Room keys: not always able to open gym door or sometimes the swimming pool door. Problems in our room too: even we could use the cards to open our room door, we were not able to insert the card into the slot to get electricity in the room, even a second ago we were able to open the door! I am very puzzled by this electronic system that you have to use the (working) room key card to get electricity (in most other nice hotels you are able to get electricity once you can open your own room door by inserting ANY card into the electricity slot!) Why they need such high security to get the lights on???? Someone tries to “steal” electricity in the room? Anyway this was the worst issue we had during our stay because we were exhausted to have to run upstairs downstairs to and out of the room /or the gym area back to the front desk to get new key cards!!!!

Overall a nice stay though
