I recently returned from a 10 day trip to Guatemala with my sister and a friend. We were traveling with a tour company I have used several times before. Hotel Atitlan was my favorite place that we stayed. Everything about it was lovely! Beautiful gardens, aviaries within the

Nice hotel. incredible views. Friendly people. Dock for lake adventures. Very nicely maintained gardens. Only drawback was the breakfast buffet...just wasn't on the same level as the rest of the hotel.

Didn't stay here, but came for breakfast and a garden tour. Lovely property, very peaceful. The breakfast was delicious, and the view and ambiance couldn't be better. Seemed like a fantastic, peaceful place if you are looking for a little bit of luxury.

The beautiful setting and gardens are top class internationally. The pool is spectacularly located overlooking the lake and volcanos, likewise the bar, restaurant and many rooms. The gardens are first rate and maintained to perfection except the sprinkling system should be timed

has anyone taken transportation to the hotel that was NOT provided by the hotel? any tips? recommendations?
We rented an SUV and my friend is an excellent driver. If you rent a car travel during the day because of the mountains in Guatemala.

How is the weather in the second week of April? Is it rainy? I'm interested in seeing nature, hiking, wild animals. Are there hiking trails nearby? Possible to visit local villages in the area?
While we did not do any hiking while at the hotel, there is a park very close to the hotel that apparently does have hiking trails. If you ask the front desk they will tell you how to get there.

The pool is cold? Thinking to go in December but my kid love pools thinking will be cold weather. Thank you
A local young couple was having a lakeside wedding so our Caravan tour party of 43 guests was barred from using the pools or the gardens on that side of the hotel for the afternoon of our free time. Very rude. It was not like our group of retirees would have been playing Marco Polo during her wedding ceremony. I would suggest finding another place to stay and screw the Hotel Atitlan!

Can you pay a day use fee for the pool and hot tub?
I am not sure if a fee is required. The poolside has a restaurant and when I was there over Easter, lots of people were coming in just for an afternoon drink or bite. I would email the Hotel and ask them.
