I spent two nights at the Taitu, both in the main building....the first night in a room without a bathroom and the second in an ensuite room. For 630/830 birr (without bathroom/with bathroom) this isn't really low budget accommodation. The rooms were upstairs above the restaurant and featured wood floors, clean/comfortable beds, sitting areas and balconies. These would have been...

We stayed for two nights. The first night we had to sleep in one of the more expensive rooms in the backyard building to the right. 347 birr. Number 160. It was super run down, the wall was mouldy. No toilet seat. But toilet paper, soap and hot water. It was also dark and quiet at night and the bed...

Our tour guide brought us here for lunch on our day tour of Addis Ababa. We like the Vegan Lunch Buffet. It had a good spread of local cuisine. There was also someone playing the piano. And there were lots of locals also enjoying their meals there which somehow added to the authenticity of the place.

We stopped here for lunch on our city tour of Addis. The grandeur of years gone by bare shines through the tired decor and grime. The food was mediocre and the bathrooms disgusting. It is very sad to such a beautiful landmark slide so deep. We did enjoy the piano player tinkering and lifting the gloomy spirit of the place

I fled this hotel after two nights. The single room I stayed in was in the old main building, and very dilapidated. The first thing I had to do was to call for help to fix the broken bedside lamp (turned out the whole lamp was broken, not just the bulb) as well as the light in the bathroom. The...

I didn't stay here just ate at their restaurant. Its good to see the Taitu reopen after a fire that closed it last year. Its quite simply a legend. A historical landmark and a piece of Addis history, sitting proud at the heart of the crazy Piazza district. Came here for dinner and ordered a range of Ethiopian dishes. All...

I spent an awful night there once - I hear it had a major fire not long ago. I'm not sure if it could have made it worse. The room was run down, the service was non-existent and the cheap price was still too much.

Having read the reviews here, I avoided the downright cheap rooms and went in for a 410 birr one in the new block. The room was...well...you get what you pay for - cracked linoleum floors, but clean bed linen. The bathroom was clean, but very very basic - an oil can for a bucket and fifteen minutes of running the...

Taitu is a major peice of Addis history. Though rooms are basic, it brings together a vibrant community of artists and musicians, and has a uniquely awesome atmosphere. The vegan lunch buffet is some of the best food in town, and sought out by many of my Ethiopian colleagues. TIP ask for a room in the 'old' building. Make sure...
