Ghion provides a mixture of imperial charm and many little annoyances that are to be expected from an overstaffed bureaucratic governmental hotel. The hotel is situated in a lovely park which provides an oasis of peace otherwise rare in Addis. Do not expect anything to work properly, as also maintenance is frozen in time. Wifi (only in the lobby) comes...

I had a shocking experience at Ghion. I booked via expedia that said that the hotel was ok and with internet in the room, etc. When I arrived, there was a concert happening in the gardens and the music was so loud that it was impossible to sleep. I was placed in a room that is dodgy at best -...

I attended a two week language course here. The staff were warm and friendly. The food was very good- lots of variety. There are formal eating areas as well as an informal Tukle. In the Tukle you can take part in the traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony. The grounds are large and offer some interesting places to walk and sit. I...

( This is my second review of the Ghion Hotel. The first, negative. An Ethiopian acquaintance questioned those negative comments on my room at the Ghion Hotel. ( And the hotel manager accepted my negative comments with calm and grace. (I actually enjoyed the hotel and personnel. In this review, I praise the entry, personnel, and gardens. The room? Read...

The Ghion is very well located and the reason I stayed there was its garden -- I am a birder and most of the more common Ethiopian bird species can be found there. This turned out to be the hotel's only saving grace, besides the very good local fare at its restaurant. On arrival, the traveller can immediately spot that...

The history of this hotel as part of the old imperial compound is so informative. In the days of Haile Selassie, this would have been THE place to stay in Addis Ababa. The manicured, landscaped grounds are stunning! The staff are well-trained, courteous and helpful. The hotel, itself is showing its age and is lacking in some amenities (internet only...

I'd say the Ghion Hotel in Addis is an institution more than a tourist location. It has one of the biggest gardens you will find in Addis, a welcome green sight for sore eyes in this city bustling with construction - not surprising that many couples choose it as a location for their wedding photos. The adjacent pool is also...

This hotel belong to government, I do not recommend it. It is an old hotel, thin windows, very noisy,89 dollars per night /double room, very expensive for what it offers .Old furniture, mosquitos and insects. The staff is unprofessional. During the day the Internet (Internet only in lobby ) works very very slow. Swimming pool is outside, cold and dirty water....
