I was at Ghion Hotel for more than ten times. The garden is so much beautiful.Large trees with many species of birds including endemics wattled Ibis. The Olympic size swimming pool give good services and the only large size in the city. The restaurants are based on traditional one .There are good conference facilitating halls. I went in this hotel several times for the purpose of meeting, dining and just for a recreation. This is a government owned hotel and a very classic type. Some of its best facilities include swimming pool for kids and adults, attractive fountain and densely covered with different species of plants. It is the best for wedding. But I don’t...

Service very good and friendly, however room was a bit crampt and in general hotel feels old and decaying. Location is good as it is pretty close to the martyrs museum. Hotel itself has an ok restaurant that produced alright food but quite slowly, although the injera is good. The hotel is still quite posh (for instance the reception said...

When I first checked into the Ghiron Hotel in Addis Ababab, Ethiopia, I saw the beautiful gardens, then the 1960's luxury of the polished wood reception area and the lobby. Shops, good food, good people. And my room viewed the gardens. A luxury hotel -- by Ethiopian standards. People told me the jazz club featured world-quality musicians. I don't know....

Many years ago, the Ghion Hotel of Addis Ababa offered the traveling dignitaries of the Soviet Bloc luxury in Ethiopia. Spacious entry and lobby. Excellent first impression with the polished wood, immaculate floors, comfortable lounge area. The staff are excellent -- they are fortunate to have salaries. Most speak some English and they are very helpful to foreigners However, the...

I write this in the context of Ethiopia but... First impressions were OK, spacious downstairs area and quite quick check-in. However the bedroom was pretty terrible - dirty (I had to wear flip flops everywhere), wires hanging in places, shower in bath didn't work but there was hot water in the basin tap. Service was non-existent in bar and restaurant...

Man, we had so much fun at the restaurant, where we had a fasting plate with injera, a bottle of Ethiopian red wine (yum!!) and watched traditional singing and dancing all night...it was amazing. They even got us up dancing. So much fun! Then, we headed to the African Jazz Village (right outside and downstairs)...so worth it. Another bunch of...

Location is good: close to the Bole Airport and the city centre. However it is old and very much part of the old Ethiopia when government owned hotels and investment was limited. It is waiting for an investor who will spend money on the place and make it into something special. One good thing are the extensive grounds which are...

You could describe the style as Communist chic - it's not exactly luxury but it is clean and comfortable in the slightly more expensive "farenji" rooms. The ones in the main block are quite questionable for the price. The breakfast is an excellent buffet and the restaurant is pretty good...
