We enjoyed Maputo Backpackers and had a warm welcome from the family runing the place. We stayed in the ground floor dorm and used the kitchen. The beds are a bit rough but everything is taken very well cared of. We didn't know but you can also eat your local dinner there. It looked very tasty. From town you can...

The staff were not very friendly, our room was small an stuffy with no air-con and the windows had been nailed shut. There was a fan in the room that did not work very well. There are only two bathrooms which are shared by more than 20 people. The toilet is not separate so if someone is having a shower...

We stayed here in 2006 and found the place to be average. We returned on December 2012. I had my camera and some expensive valueables including my wife engagement ring stolen from our room. Our room was locked while we went out to a restaurant. After checking I found out the all the key open most of the doors. The...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Maputo backpackers lies nestled in a tranquil street in the rapidly developing area of the Costa De Sol, only 50 metres from the Indian ocean. Authentic Portugese restaurants, a modern mall, casino and a fish market are all within easy walking distance. Feel like a visit to the central market for some fresh fruit, or how about some arts and culture as you roam the bustling streets of the city centre? Perhaps you are rather in the mood to go out a bit later and find some live jazzy tunes, a funky bar, or perhaps even a club or two. Not a problem as the city centre is only a short taxi drive away. Or if you like we can also take you on a personalized day/night excursion into the heart of the exhilarating Maputo community during the day, and/or into the vibrant night scene during the evening hours. There is also a ferry service from the harbour to the beautiful island of Inchada for it's fantastic sun worshipping and snorkling opportunities. So much to do! We have a self catering kitchen available if you want to fry up the fish and vegetables you got from the market, or not in the mood for cooking at all after a long day in the sun? No worries. Meni can prepare you one of her delicious African inspired Portugese dishes, which will go brilliantly with an icy cold Mozambican beer from our outdoor bar. Why not take a leisurely stroll on the beach after dinner? You can go join the sun saying it's farewells to another perfect African day as you watch the local kids play a last game of soccer in the golden light. ... more   less
