We are three people traveling on motorcycles from Cape Town to Austria. Our route will take us through Saudi Arabia and the German Guesthouse was a huge help with information on the ferry and visa requirements. The public area of the Guesthouse is perfect for relaxing and taking care of much needed down time. Pool is perfect in the heat of Khartoum. The all inclusive pricing is great. Food laundry services, water and all the help you could ask for regarding information in and around Khartoum is worth far more than the price we paid. Assistance like this in a non English speaking country in invaluable.

Before coming to Sudan I had a pretty tortuous process in getting a visa (which is not unusual, I understand), and Norbert, the owner of the German (or international) Guesthouse was very understanding about my frequent emails and changes to schedule, which impressed from the start. Some in the reviews below have questioned the value/expense ratio of this place, but for 80usd per night I got a good sized single room (#19, overlooks the pool, air con and fan was effective), three meals a day (eggs, bread at breakfast, always soup and flat breads at lunch, and various stews, fish, kofta during the week at dinner- one choice per meal, please note) , reliable WiFi in rooms and public areas, laundry every day, and as much bottled water as I required- there's a communal fridge in the dining room, always stocked with free water. The food was always good and the guesthouse was clean with very friendly staff. In addition to this, the transfer to and from the airport was also included, and worked well. I think that's quite a lot of value for 80usd. And they have a pool and a tortoise! For a 09h00 to 14h00 'half' day trip around Khartoum ( confluence, national museum, khalifas house, mahdis tomb, omdurman market) and for a full day trip Naqa, Musawwarat, Meroe (extraordinary) , I also arranged these through Norbert, and the guides were great, driver safe, everyone on time. Would recommend that you do the same if looking to arrange these kind of trips, and recommend this guesthouse in particular.

We spent a week at the German Guest house as it was too hot to venture into the desert before crossing the border. Our needs were well met as we camped in our roof top tent in the road with a night guard next to our car. The price included breakfast, soup for lunch and dinner. Unlimited tea/coffee and cold drinks were available and laundry done by the staff. We were given a room with a bathroom where we could shower. The staff arranged our travel and photographic permits with photocopies at no extra charge. Norbit changed money for us at a very good rate. Wifi was very good. After travelling through Africa as an over lander the standard in most accommodation isn't very high so, the fact that the bathroom needed maintenance and the guest house could have been cleaned a bit better, wasn't an issue. The pool is a big bonus with temps reaching 48 degrees. We felt the price was inline with what we got.

Good location (close to the airport). The guesthouse needs big renovation in order to look like in the advertisement pictures. beside that, wi-fi works well, the owner is cool, hot water available and laundry service included. However, cheaper and much better options are available in the neighborhood, but for traveling undemanding folks, the German Guesthouse might be the choice.

We paid USD120 (no SDP accepted) per double room on full board basis. For this price one has certain expectations, which were not met, by a very wide margin - the rate should be nearer USD40 IMHO. The owner/manager was away and the "staff" excelled in their absence of service and were not particularly friendly especially in the dining area. When we left, there was no-one around and we left the money with another guest. On arrival, our reservation had not been recorded despite several emails/SMS. The lunch was soup. One of the other guests offered us pasta they had prepared which compensated. One room had no hot water, something needed to be connected and there was a 30 minute wait for a hot shower. When going to bed we discovered that there was only one sheet per bed and there was no staff to find any extra sheets - we had to sleep under an acrylic blanket. The evening dinner was prepared by a German guest (not staff) which was very nice but it was not clear whether we were expected to help out. At least we did not have to wash up. There was only stale bread and jam for breakfast - we went to the Rotana instead! The dining room was not particularly clean and there was a strong smell of gas. The internet was good. The pool was pleasant, although it ought to be cleaned daily (this was not the case). It was nice to meet fellow travellers over dinner. For this price, avoid, and head to the nearby Bouganvilla hotel. Reconsider the German guest house if the prices are slashed! But lower any expectations.

We stopped here travelling in our own camper so did not need rooms. However, we received: breakfast, softdrinks, internet, a room with a/c and bathroom, pool use and a nightguard in front of our car. For a very good price. On top of that, the owner is extremely knowledgable, friendly and helpful. Also, he needed our help sampling the whiskey-cola, to which we gladly obliged... We were here in 2014

The German Guesthouse is a great place to relax in Khartoum. It’s a place to feel at home, where Norbert and his staff are welcoming you the way you want. The rooms are big and clean, there is a good WIFI connection and a dip in the swimming pool is great to relax. We enjoyed the food very much. If you can try to stay here, you will enjoy it

Thursday nights in Khartoum are like Friday nights in non-Muslim countries. That's why it's TGIT at the German Guest House in Khartoum soon to be renamed International Guest House. Norbert, the owner and staff were very helpful during our four night stay. The rooms are fairly basic but clean and the swimming pool is a good way to cool down on a hot day. All meals and laundry are included in the price but make sure you get to the dining area early since the food goes fairly quickly. This place seems to attract interesting guests, so take some time to chat to a few of them while you're there.
