Ok, it's noisy (aehm, VERY noisy) Ok, maybe the carpet needs some renovation. But the bathroom was clean, the manager friendly and the girl at the desk helpful, not to mention the great admiral at the door :-) Don't forget to take a look at the pictures on the stairs! You will see memories of more than a generation of... More

The last 2 reviews are somewhat unfair. Anyone who can afford to stay at the Hyatt would compare the Garuda unfavourably. Its clean and cheap and cheerful and the staff are great, but it is not a 5 star US experience, neither is the price!. Anywhere in Thamel gets noise from the bars,in fact the nearest music bar to the... More

After reading the decent reviews on Trip Advisor, I hoped that Hotel Garuda would meet our needs. We wanted a basic hotel in Thamel, the tourist district, that was clean, air-conditioned and central. The location was perfect, but nothing else was. The room (their largest), was filthy, the carpet was torn and dirty, the bathroom needed scraping down with heavy-duty... More

Grand hotel, nice rooms, hot water and very friendly and hospitable staff. However it was possibly the noisiest hotel I've ever stayed in in my life. The music from the adjoining bar every night was so loud it were as if the band was playing at the foot of my bed. It was absolutely insufferable and it continued until 11,... More

My brother, my son and I stayed at the Hotel Garuda on the advise of a friend who stays there when ever he visits Nepal on business. The Hotel Garuda is an oasis of calm in Thamel. We had a wonderful stay there because the staff was so friendly. From the doorman to the owner we were welcomed and treated... More

For over 10 years I have visited Nepal on a once or twice yearly basis. The Hotel Garuda stands out as the hotel with the most welcoming, warm, personalised service. Situated centrally in Thamel, it is within walking distance to all the good restaurants and tourist operations. The owner, Tseten Norkyel, provides an exemplary service. His staff - with one... I am a Spanish Himalayan climber. During my conversations with a wellknown and very experienced climber, while I was preparing my first expedition to Nepal, he recommended me Hotel Garuda as the perfect place to stay in Kathmandu; as I strongly trust him, I booked the rooms in the Hotel, without looking for any other hotel in the city. And... More
