the White Lodge is clean, safe and comfortable. The owner lives on the premises and makes sure that you have everything you need. It's close to major shopping and the Sky Train. Down the street is 'Sorn's in the Alley,' a great little restaurant.

We stayed two nights here, and the first night, we were rudely woken up by bedbug bites! The rattan bed frame was infested with them - we could see them crawling around in the cracks. Unable to sleep, we tried to get a room change but the reception isn't 24 hours – at least, there was a lady there, but she was fast asleep and showed no intentions of waking up, so we had no choice but to spend a sleepless night catching and squashing bugs and itching – it was quite appalling! The bugs were everywhere even though we pulled the mattress off the frame and onto the floor.

The next morning we complained and were immediately given a change of room. The receptionist was very apologetic and called in the exterminators right away. However she was unable to give us a discount on the room. We insisted and she later gave us just a 100bht (US$2.66) discount, only 20% off the double room rate of 500bht, which I didn't feel made up for the terrible experience.

Apart from that, the location of the White Lodge is great. If you want to stay here, try to request a room in the "new" wing at the back (which is where we were relocated to on the 2nd night). It's in no way "new" and the rooms are smaller, but you have a small shared balcony, a bathtub, and at least the beds are on divans instead of wood frames and hopefully don't harbour bugs!

This review will make this place sound worse than it is, but here are some facts about White Lodge, Bangkok.

It has a superb location across Rama 1 Road(Sukhumvit) to MBK Center on Soi KasemSan 1, right on the BTS SkyTrain Silom Line station "W1 National Stadium". There is a 7eleven within 50 meters of the guesthouse.

The usual rate for a room is 500 Baht, includes double bed, A/C, water-heater shower, soap and towel. The bed has sheets.

There is a free WiFi on the second floor but it can be accessed probably from every room. At night time it seems to be turned off. The speed tested to a Bangkok server at ping 42ms, D1.60/U0.51Mbps.

You have to pay each morning and sign it on a book, which is troublesome. Also the noon cleaners are going to wake you up and knock on your door. There is little privacy from the cleaners. This is probably the worst thing about this hotel. They will go away if you agree the room not to be cleaned.

The 4th floor rooms seem the best value. It is good to shop around as some rooms have noisy or leaky A/C, no functioning electrical sockets, clogged drains, bad water tap, a cockroach horns peeking from a hole in the toilet doorstep etc.

The cleanliness is ok, but the cleaned floor/toilet usually has hairs etc left from the dirty cleaning water/brooms.

The rooms are far from impressive, but they are okay and the bed is ok.

To sum it up, if you want a nice location and a private room in the Siam area, access to 7eleven, SkyTrain, MBK, free WiFi for 500 Baht, it is a good choice. Bangkok is difficult for decent accommodation.

Remember that a taxi flag-fall is only 35 Bahts(5km+5B/km). SkyTrain is 15-40 Bahts, same as MRT underground metro.

Stayed for 2 days, booked through phone for 4 days and confirmed for 600 bath per room, when reach there only left 1 room for 650 bath. the reception never give priority even i called 2 times to confirm the booking. Their attitude is first come, first serve basis and they do not have online booking system. Book at your own risk, dont be surprise if they tell you no room as they will give priority to the person who stayed there. As the hotel collect the payment on daily. They only provide 2 bottle of drinking water on the first day, when i asked for 2nd days they said only free on the first day, this is totally unacceptable as they do not value the long stayed customer. The aircond cannot be adjust, expect to chill and caught flu on the next day. The owner is an old lady sometimes seeing her talking with the reception, she will smile to you. Not recommended to family and couple, as there is a long group travellers from india, bangladeshi and bhutan stayed in this place. My wife feel not comfortable so I decided to checkout.

Well-run efficient little hotel in quiet street off main road - room only basis but plenty of local food outlets just outside front door

Clean rooms, twin beds, A-C, electrical equipment works, but dated

Location excellent for Jim Thompson's House and excellent MBK A-C shopping mall - cheap food in dozens of outlets and huge range of goods (ask for discount)

Staff helpful and honest. They will order taxi and charge the standard rate to airport (300 TB at time of writing).

Stay for 2 nights, very irritating. Doesn't feel like a hostel, more like a workers dormitory. Aircond cannot adjust, very hard mattress. Run down and dirty place. Not recommended! Stay away from this hostel

I have stayed at several of the small hotels at Soi Khasem San II. Thay are more or less the same. Basic but quite clean. Have a look at your room before you decide which one to take. As the quality differs from year to year , from place to place and from room to room. What is really superb about this places is that they are very close to MBK and to National Stadium.
The street itself is also very quiet considering its in the middle of Bankgkok. I also like the small restaurant where you can sit and sip a cold beer in the evenings.

It's in Siam Square which isn't cheap. You can get a single room with aircon and priv bathroom for ~500B a night. Others in the area are 600-1300 for similar.

The rooms aren't big but they are by no means small. It's not dirty but it's not clean if that makes sense. The staff is friendly and the location is great as it's a stones throw from MBK and the BTS.

To give you an idea though, my room had mold that was painted over. I wouldn't stay there a month but if you want this area it's cool for a night or so. Also has hot showers. I used it for 2 nights to find the apartment I'm in now. No regrets and I'd stay there again if I was in town for a night or so and wanted this desired area.

Will note this though, they turn off the free WIFI at 10PM and it's back at like 8AM which is mind blowing. Also it only really works on 2nd floor but got it in my first floor room.

I turned up one evening needing a place to stay & this had been recommended it guidebooks. I considered myself fortunate that they had a room & it was quite cheap at 400Baht (altho definitely not the cheapest in Bkk, so I thought it would be OK). Unfortunately the bed was crawling with ticks (you could see the blood stains when I squashed them)- I pulled off the bed clothes but they still kept coming! I the end I lathered on insect-repellent & tried to get a bit of sleep. I reported the problem the next morning & they offered to give me a different room & said the problem had never occurred before. Naturally I moved to one of the other nice, clean, 600B rooms up the road.
