I first stayed at the Hotel De Moc (then known as Thai Hotel) ten years ago, on my first trip to Bangkok for a meeting at UNESCAP. I found it on the net and booked blind, but it turned out to be a brilliant choice - it is just five minutes walk from the UNESCAP office on Rajdamnern and I...

Check in was pretty awful, took a while, didn't get any free drink as promised and then just gave key, not told floor, location etc. Phone kept going and they kept answering it instead of sorting check in so took about 20 minutes. Room was small - hotel is really old and looks like an old hospital, it just looks...

This was an okay hotel, several blocks (about 15 mins walk) away from Khao San Road. Pro's: - Clean rooms - Decent-sized rooms - Nice swimming pool - Reasonably close to Wat Pho, Dusit Park, Khao San Road and Grand Palace - Reasonable rates - Free wi-fi (though you had to pay to use the lobby computers if you didn't...

Good hotel with a good location - just 10 minutes walk to Khao San but far from Khao San's noise and crazyness. And, guys, De Moc has the BEST breakfast in Thailand! It's lavish, it's tasty, it's great. I also loved the collection of retro cars parked at De Moc yard, including a giant Rolls Royce. Wonder who's the lucky...

Basic budget hotel one up from being a backpackers. Clean, old fashioned rooms with hostel like beds that fly all around the room on crazy castors. I am a bit passed budget perhaps and probably should have just paid more and gone for one a bit nicer. That said its fine and clean and everything works. Quite a lot of...

The hotel de moc wasnt quite as flash as its website made it look - the rooms and furnishings are a bit tired, and the pool is not as large or luxurious as it looks. But, having said that, it was perfectly comfortable, and clean, and the staff were good. The beds were a little hard, and there was only...

This hotel is fine. I'd give it average ratings. It's really fine. In fact I might even go for good. The problem is this- the BUDDY TRAVEL AGENCY is incompetent and a rip off. When the agency lets you down about something small- they start shouting at you and the hotel. Being shouted at is unacceptable. Then the receptionists start...

We booked Hotel De Moc as part of a 3-day promotion, without knowing anything about the hotel. Our surprise was only exceeded by our pleasure with a spacious, immaculate room with free fruit bowl and balcony views. Buffet breakfast was included, while swimming pool, beer garden and free tuk tuk to the nearby markets were available. The staff were magnificent,...

Staying in Banglamphu

Neighbourhood Profile
Banglamphu
While you’ll see skyscrapers in most parts of Bangkok, it’s the gilded roofs of ancient pagodas that adorn the skyline of Banglamphu, the city’s historical and most touristic district. Hordes of tourists flock to this area to tick quite a few must-see attractions off their to-do list, with the Grand Palace being the most spectacular of them all. Banglamphu is also home to Bangkok’s infamous tourist ghetto, centered around Khao San Road. Visit at night to feast on road-side pad thai, cheap beers and if you’re up for it, some dancing fueled by buckets of Thai whiskey.
