I have been to Thailand many times and stayed in major hotels, but when a friend of mine decided that we should try a smaller but boutique like; that was how I discovered Arun Residence.
We had dinner at The Deck, the Arun temple is...More
A friend recommended this place...and now I am grateful to him. The hotel was difficult to find but I called them up from the taxi and then it was fine. One reason I will stay again is the superb food. Good views...comfy rooms..great service and...More
This is a really solid property tucked away in an unbeatable spot. It is on the river, in easy walking/ferry distance to four of the top sights in town. If you can spring for the Arun Suite, do so. The private porch overlooking the river...More
After a relaxing week at Koh Samui, we checked into Arun Residence. One could feel that it stands for its name "A Residence", a place with Warmth rather than the usual stereotypical Hotel Courtesy elsewhere. The wooden staircase leading to the Simple but Exotic Room...More
Arun Residence made a great base for us. We stayed in Bangkok for 2 weeks catching up with friends and showing our son around for the first week of his first visit to Thailand. There is so much to see within walking distance of the...More

While you’ll see skyscrapers in most parts of Bangkok, it’s the gilded roofs of ancient pagodas that adorn the skyline of Banglamphu, the city’s historical and most touristic district. Hordes of tourists flock to this area to tick quite a few must-see attractions off their to-do list, with the Grand Palace being the most spectacular of them all. Banglamphu is also home to Bangkok’s infamous tourist ghetto, centered around
Khao San Road. Visit at night to feast on road-side pad thai, cheap beers and if you’re up for it, some dancing fueled by buckets of Thai whiskey.

As other responders noted this is not a luxury property. My wife and I stayed in the Arun Suite, with a private balcony overlooking the river, with a great view. If you can get that room I think it would be a great romantic honeymoon spot. I don't know about the other rooms. The hotel is small and the decor has a charming eccentricity and a "funky" ambience. I mean that in a positive way. As others noted it has a great location for walking to the Grand Palace, Wat Pho and Wat Arun is across the river. A ferry terminal is nearby to cross the river. Amorosa Bar is a nice spot to have a drink and watch the sunset and the restaurant on site is convient for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Other dining is within walking distance.
