We arrived at Lamphu Tree on October 1, 2009. From the first, it was great. Not a luxury hotel, but a quaint, clean, kind hotel great for friends on a getaway or honeymooners. The pool was icy cold during a hot week, and the staff was always kind and helpful. The breakfast was great, and so was lunch (as we...

Graet, boutique hotel. Good location. Close to Khoa San Road, but not too close. I loved it there. The first impression is that the cannal next to it smells funny but it's just 'the Bangkok smell' which you get used to after half a day :) I stayed for 3 days in the superior room on the last floor with...

I checked out of Lamphu Tree House today after 7 nights staying there. The quality of the hotel for the price you pay is outstanding! I wasn't sure what to expect - the reviews on Trip Advisor were all really good but I just found it hard to believe that for the equivalent of 30GBP per night (inc great breakfast!)...

We loved the location of this hotel. Walk to Khao San Rd or down to the river to catch a boat into Bangkok. The walk along the canal takes you through small local markets and temples. When you turn right out of the hotel there is a section you walk through where the residents have moved into the walkway...we thought...

Much has been said about the location (OK), room (clean, basic), free wi-fi (great), the hotel lobby (nice), swimming pool (small but inviting), breakfast (nice) so no need to repeat here. But I need to mention that I booked the cheapest room available directly on their website but my room had a nice, clean, and spacious balcony. One day I...

After a long day's travelling we couldn't wait to get to the hotel. There came the first problem, the taxi driver couldn't find it, there was a misleading sign pointing out the hotel in the wrong direction, and it's in a pretty naff area of town. The hotel appears very nice and the swimming pool looked wonderful. However, we had...

I was a little bit skeptical about this hype on TA about this place. It turned out that it really was a good decision to stay there while exploring BKK. The hotel is in a quiet alley but close to the main street. The neighborhood looks a little bit dodgy but its safe place both day and night. Its 10mns...

Lovely small hotel making a big effort. Staff were very helpful, location excellent for Grand Palace and KSR etc, we had a wonderful stay with 4 families all meeting up here. Lovely breakfast. Free wifi in lobby. Great little pool. I feel lucky to have found it via tripadvisor as there are a lot of not so nice hotels in...

Although the hotel is somewhat hidden that is one of its benefits. Used AOT vehicle to get there from airport. The driver had no trouble once we gave him the instructions the hotel sent. Breakfasts were excellent and plenty of it. As we were only there on stop over had our evening meals there too. Very inexpensive. Nice area on...

In comparison to other places in Bangkok, this place represents excellent value for money. Sure, the location could be a little better, but that's why this place is cheaper than most. I've noticed in some reviews people complain about the canal smelling - it was fine when we were there, didn't notice it at all. From a location point of...

Staying in Banglamphu

Neighbourhood Profile
Banglamphu
While you’ll see skyscrapers in most parts of Bangkok, it’s the gilded roofs of ancient pagodas that adorn the skyline of Banglamphu, the city’s historical and most touristic district. Hordes of tourists flock to this area to tick quite a few must-see attractions off their to-do list, with the Grand Palace being the most spectacular of them all. Banglamphu is also home to Bangkok’s infamous tourist ghetto, centered around Khao San Road. Visit at night to feast on road-side pad thai, cheap beers and if you’re up for it, some dancing fueled by buckets of Thai whiskey.
