We stayed at Gana's two nights and has the ger on the rooftop. Shared toilet and shower -with hot water. We loved it! Very cozy with the fire that Gana lights up for you and very confortable bed. The view from there is interesting with the contrast of the more traditional houses and the big buildings in the distance. There are two big markets just around the corner, a mall with a supermarket about 5 minutes walk and the city center is only 2kms away. Gana is super helpful, he gives you directions, bus numbers and all info you request. Also, the price included breakfast and it was possible the best we had in all our trip. With the plus that he makes his own kitchen available for you so we didn't have to spend money un restaurantes or cafes -good for budget travellers-. We truly enjoyed it.

Not the fanciest place, but it's really cheap and plus you get the chance to sleep in a ger on the rooftop! We were in a normal room and the walls were soaked in humidity, not really the most healthy place, but it was good for one night. Breakfast was good and very filling. It's an good place to find interesting people. Staff was helpful.

The yurts are amazing, staff is very helpful, speak very good English. Would recommend visiting the Terelj Park with their tour guide. The yurts are authentic, you can live exactly like a nomad, even in the park

Gana and his staff work hard to keep their varied guests happy. This is a simple abode that caters to budget travelers one step up from a hostel. Breakfast is varied from day to day and good. We enjoyed dinner one evening with mutton, rice and vegetables nicely spiced.

Although the hotel exterior looks humble, it is strategically located in the midst of the city's tourist attractions (& restaurants), all within walking distance. Breakfast is good. Mogie their driver may act reckless many times but he's actually good-mannered and honest, and he will gladly take your to your desired destinations. For an affordable package, Mr. Gana sees to it that you have a satisfying "Nomadic experience of Mongolia": a countryside trip, a short stay around and in a YURT (traditional white round tent), & a sumptuous authentic Mongolian lunch, and a visit to the giant statue of Genghis Khan. .For additional small fee, you will enjoy photo-ops with vultures & eagles and a camel &/or horse ride.. We had a pleasant stay.

The gers on the roof offer views of the city with rudimentary en suite facilities but for that price we didn't expect more. In the morning, for an early start we were invited into the kitchen for our cooked breakfast. We walked to the nearby monastery in the evening and Gana arranged for our taxi to the train station.

I love the area surrounding the Gandan Khiid temple. A local person told me that the city was thinking about renovating/ changing it, but the monks from the monastery were against it, so it hasn't happened (yet). Really amazing to see the difference between the dirt footpaths and the busy intersection only yards away. Gana's Guesthouse was an interesting space. Great rooftop view of the city. Staff was nice and helpful, breakfast was good. I was happy to see and stay in a ger, but it did feel a bit dark and musty, and i woke up with asthma attacks in the middle of the night, twice. Luckily I brought my medicine! It's usually dust, mold, or animal hair that triggers my asthma at night. Could have been any of those three (animal hair makes sense in a felt ger), so i really don't know. It didn't seem to bother my roommates though. But I also didn't have asthma problems at other places. May be useful information if you are also a traveler who is prone to allergy-related asthma attacks. Restrooms/ showers are OK. Could be good to replace some sections that are peeling or falling apart. The greenhouse next to the restroom is pretty cute.

I spent two nights in a yurt on top of the hostel. It was sunny outside and I had a great staying here. It was pleasure to be in yurt in the center of Ulaanbaatar, 15 minutes’ walk to a main square. The gear had padlock with code 000, so you need to bring your own padlock to ensure nobody enters your yurt when you are not there. Gana's stuff was friendly. Breakfast served consists of bread, different marmalades, coffee or tea, and something small on the plate (better than nothing). There are small shops around so you can buy the food, water etc... There are electric boilers for hot water on the roof, one for two yurts. The showers are outside (wooden cabins). I had no luck with hot water since I didn't manage to get it (every time somebody was before me and spent all hot water from the boiler), so I had to shower in cold water. The yurt was clean, but had some smell of the sheep. That didn't bother me, but after being in the city all day, in the evening yurt had to be opened for some time to ventilate a bit. In spite of that, I really enjoyed staying here, and being on the roof with sun outside, and interesting view of the modern and old city. The hostel is in old part of Ulaanbaatar so streets are dirt roads (like you can see on photos). There is a Buddhist temple few minutes north of hostel. The hostel has a dog outside but he was quiet. If you want to sleep in a real Mongolian yurt, this is unique opportunity to be in the yurt in the city. One day in the city is enough. I recommend renting a car (SIXT) and going outside of the town (nature, national park..., drive carefully because roads are in bad condition). Hostel also offers a car but with a driver (plus food, drinks for the driver and fuel). For me it was more convenient to rent a car without driver (that is not so common here in Mongolia). The hostel infrastructure is not the newest one, but it's functional. Wi-Fi on the roof, in the yurts, was excellent. The owner let us leave our baggage last whole day before going to the airport (we took public transport bus for 500 MNT/person, really cheap way to go to/from airport).

Acording to the reviews we expected a good place but it wasn't. The hostel is in very bad conditions and it has no mantinance. The room was very humid and it smelled so bad. They need to learn how to clean properly. Our room was quite dirty and it seemed they hadn't cleaned it: there was some hair in the bathroom, ear sticks and some dirtiness on the floor and we are 90% sure they didin't change the sheets. There was no soap nor towels. The breakfast was ok. There was some chocolate and jam to share and they should put a common knife for each jar, because everybody used his own knife to take it. Ther was not enough space to have breakfast, we had to wait because there was only space for 10 people. The owner should spend more money to have the hostel in good conditions. Because of the bad facilities we think the quality-price is not proportional. We sure wouldn't come back there! We can not understand the excelent reviews from Tripadvisor and Booking, they seem a fake!

We initially planned to be there for several days, but we had to shorten it. We were on the ground floor and our room felt humid, the sheets and floor felt wet. They did change the sheets after my request, but that really didn't change anything. We thought the staff was ok, but nothing more. The wifi was bad in our room. And the breakfast was ok. The location is okay as it's not far from the centre. I believe there are better hostels in the neighbourhood.
