The Best Western Gobi's Kelso Hotel is located a short cab ride from downtown Ulaanbaatar in a quiet, mostly residential, area. The rooms are clean, the showers are hot with strong water pressure, and the internet is fast and reliable. They serve an excellent American breakfast, with some extra Mongol side dishes thrown in for good measure. The desk staff speak excellent English (though the restaurant staff is less fluent). The price is right. What more can you ask of a hotel in Ulaanbaatar?

We stayed at this hotel recently and found it perfect for us. We needed a base that was close to the airport and also within easy travelling distance to the town centre. The rooms were large and spacious, the food in the restaurant and bar was great. Erdenebayer the GM is a life saver - he helped us on many occasions to arrange travel and whatever we needed (arranging transport, speaking with travel agents, getting a prepaid sim card - all of these would have been very difficult or impossible without his help), even coming to the hotel outside of his working hours to assist us. The other staff are great too and nothing was too much trouble for them. When we go back to Mongolia we will definitely be staying here when in UB before travelling out to the country.

It is a very nice hotel and I loved their pub. It is the first Best Western in Mongolia to be opened. Because it is very new they were not fully Best Western yet at least there was no sign yet. I liked the fact that my room had a massage shower not a bathtub. I thought that the staff was friendly. The price was ok, but over all Ulaanbaatar was very expensive.

Gobi’s Kelso is located about 10 minutes Walk from the Train station. We got a room good for three persons and the room is huge! The bedroom is separated from the living room. Aside from that, the breakfast is also huge and is not the same every day. Plus, internet speed is really fast. From the four countries I’ve been to recently (China, Mongolia, Russia and Vietnam), this was by far the fastest! And the best thing about this hotel is their customer service! Their receptionists (I forgot their names) and most especially their manager who drove us to get the pictures from the studio and to the train station in one go. We really had a blast staying in this hotel and and in Mongolia in general.

Stayed there one night last week and really couldn't complain too much about anything. I'd highly recommend taking a taxi there and the going rate is 24,000 or $10USD. If you're paying in US dollars, they only accept new bills.

The hotel itself is very clean and the staff very friendly and spoke great English. We even had a breakfast to go since we left before it started. The room was spacious and clean and the bathroom very nice.

The bed mattress is extremely hard and pillows very thin. The shower pressure is good, but it takes at least 5 minutes for the hot water to come through.

Definitely a good option while in Ulaanbaataar, but not for more then a night or two.

We were so happy to get a hot shower, bed and bug free room. Do t get me wrong the yurt stays were amazing, family hosting for Naadam was remarkable . But Thank You Best Western for providing this clean quiet space with great staff and the manager was extremely helpful as well!!
Advice: IF you are looking for a downtown market Square location this is not for you- IF you are wanting to be closer to the community of Ulaanbaatar, with transportation options close, bus, train taxi ect. This is a good fit.

We stayed at the Best Western Gobi Kelso after arriving on the Trans-Siberian Railroad from Beijing and then later stayed there for four nights during the Naadam Festival.

The hotel itself is comfortable but what really made the stay enjoyable was the caring staff.

The staff could not have done enough to make our stay enjoyable, including upgrading our room on our second visit; obtaining tickets for the Naadam festival at a reasonable price; providing us with valuable travel information; and even walking with us to the bus stop to make sure we took the correct route.

I've traveled all over the world but have seldom found such good service.

This hotel is pretty close to the train station so quite convenient. The rooms are of the usual Best Western standard which is very ok from a Ulaanbaatar perspective. The staff are very helpful and given us tips for money exchange and recommended places to visit and for dinner. They also helped us book taxi. Generally a pleasant experience.

The hotel staff was very helpful and the rooms were clean and comfortable. They have a bar and restaurant and even include breakfast. Or room had satellite tv, air conditioning, and a clean bathroom. For half the price of the other western hotels in UB it is a great bargain.

We arrived and the check in was fast, staff was friendly. However the safe in our room wasn't working. They then changed our room to a deluxe room (upgraded), and everything was working fine. Till the night that is. After we came back from dinner, the air con wasn't working anymore. The staff came up to the room to assist, but equally clueless. So we slept without air con in the summer heat.

After our Gobi trip, we checked into the same hotel. Again, staff is very nice. We sent our clothes for laundry and it came back in a few hours. Slight issue though. The clothes came back wet. Hence we need to bring it down to the reception again. And laundry cost USD 17! (10 tee shirts + 1 jeans)

All in all, it's a friendly hotel, decent rooms but quite a few issues. If you don't mind conversing with the staff again and again over minor (but annoying) issues, you can consider this hotel.

I arrived with the train 6.30 in the morning. Were at the hotel at 7. Absolutely no problem. Also got breakfast for free. So I'm pretty sure, that if they have a room available, you will be able to check in free of charge.

I stayed this Hotel because it was very near to the railway station. As I know, It is quite far from the airport. You can take taxi or even bus to this hotel. For details of how to take the bus, please contact the hotel. Hoping such information can be helpful.

No, airport pickup is not included. I suggest you take a taxi to the hotel since it can be a bit difficult to find.
