Detailed Reviews

I stayed at Edelweiss for a total of 7 nights as a solo traveler. It is considered centrally location but it is actually a little west of central, still a great location. Because of the traffic congestion, walking is the best way to get around (I averaged 2-9 miles a day). The rooms were clean, 2 bottles of water provided daily. The reception and housekeeping staff very nice, always available. The restaurant cafe is run by a different company/owner. It feels like a lounge and is nice place to hang out with glass of wine after long day touring. It is also popular with locals. It was closed on Sunday. The pasta dish & pizza were excellent. The complimentary breakfast buffet included tea & coffee (with warm milk for your coffee), juice drink, a very yummy cold oatmeal concoction with apples, yogurt, fresh fruit, eggs with meat to order. The breakfast coffee was subpar, but the restaurant served a great cappuccino (approx US $2.332). I didn't see an elevator; all rooms are on the 2nd & 3rd level. The hotel is tastefully decorated and the art on the wall is for sell. Just 1-2 blocks west are two restaurants that I highly recommend: Italian restaurant Albero's (on the east side of the Mika Hotel) and Lonsdale Art Lounge. There is no airport transfer service. I took a shuttle from airport for US$10.00. For my return to airport, it cost me $20.00. Allow minimum 1 hour. The street names in UB are confusing with poor signage. I consider the hotel to be on Embassy Rd., not Chin Van whatever Street.

I was booked into this hotel on my last business trip to Mongolia. This little boutique hotel is located in the centre of Ulaan-Bataar not far from Sukhbaatar Sqaure and the Shangri La Mall. The staff are friendly and efficient. The rooms are functional and clean. There is a little breakfast room with a very basic and limited selection of food and a coffee maker. This hotel is not luxurious but very friendly and local. I like it and wouldn’t mind staying here again.

I stayed one night in the Edelweiss Hotel at the end of my stay in Mongolia. The staff were helpful and the room was clean, although it smelled a little musty. After a couple of weeks of mostly mutton dishes in the countryside of Mongolia, I almost swooned over the European style breakfast buffet--eggs, toast and jam, fruit juice!
Other things I liked were a TV that had several English language channels, a computer in the public area. It had decent internet access so I could check my email. The hotel address lists Peace Avenue, but it is a block or more away from actually being on Peace Avenue. While not exactly close, it is within walking distance of Sukhbatar Square, the main post office, and other sites in central UB.
One thing I didn't like was that my shower was cold in the morning, or at least just barely lukewarm. The beds were hard by my American standard. (This was true in all of the places I stayed in Mongolia.)
I thought the price was pretty good for the quality of the hotel. I would definitely stay here again.

I have stayed at this hotel twice for a total of three nights. Friendly, helpful staff assisted with luggage as there is no elevator. It's like staying in an art gallery. The room was calm and comfortable and had a lovely small statue on the desk. The rooms aren't overly large, yet spacious enough for the many amenities, making for a comfortable stay for one night or several. There was a need for an extra card in the light slot to maintain the connection during my first stay. I slept well and enjoyed several selections from the generous morning buffet each day. The banana muffins are worth a bite, even if you're not usually a carb person at breakfast. The Shangri-La Mall and many restaurants and businesses are within walking distance, but the best part of this hotel, next to the art, is the elegant sushi restaurant on the main floor.

It is a small hotel close to the center of Ulaanbaatar. The rooms were clean and the hotel was well maintained. There is no elevator but the hotel staff will help you with your luggage. A basic breakfast was an unexpected bonus (I didn't notice it when making a reservation). It has nothing to do with hotel itself but when coming from or going to the Ulaanbaatar airport give yourself plenty of time. The traffic in the city is insane (for no apparent reason).

Nice boutique hotel in Ulaanbaatar. Centrally located and a wonderful and caring staff. Highly Recommend!
We stayed here in June and returned to the hotel after spending July in the Mongolian countryside. If we return to Mongolia, the Edelweiss Art hotel will be our first choice!

Stayed in the Edelweiss hotel for 10 days. Rooms are comfortable and the service is excellent. English speaking staff and a hard working (visible) manager. Money changing 24/7, Good breakfast and very acceptable restaurant. 5 taxi minutes away from Square.Part of the Juuchin tours group. Will definitely go back there next year during stop on TransSib

Having read the reviews, we were extremely hesitant about staying here after a long wearying journey on the tran sib express. However, we were pleasantly surprised and more than satisfied with this hotel.
The standard twin room was perfectly comfortable with a well stocked mini bar, which we could have devoured the entire contents of for a few dollars. Ditto the laundry service, which is usually the type of hotel service you pay an arm and a leg for. The bathroom was well equipped with toiletries, hairdryer and electric curling brush even, and the shower was great.
We only breakfasted here once - they have a very good 'tick box' system on a bilingual menu, although we didn't get exactly what we ordered. The omlettes were really good and freshly made and there was a large selection on offer.
There is no lift but this is not a problem, bell boys are always on hand to take your luggage to your room.
The location is a 2 or 3 minute walk from Peace Avenue and no more than a 12 minute stroll to the main square. Taxi's are extremely cheap if you prefer.
Staff were extremely courteous and helpful. The manager was always on site and staff had good levels of English. We checked out at 7.00 am on our last day for our transfer back to the train station, which was running late. The manager offered us refreshments and something to eat at the breakfast buffet whilst we waited, at no charge.
This hotel certainly deserves it's three stars and I would recommend it without hesitation.

Reserving a room was a little tricky e-mailing back and forth, and when the management offered me a "special rate" I was a little skeptical. My wife and I arrived to have everything taken care of, the rate in place, and a clean room with decent wi-fi in the middle of Ulaanbaatar. Edelweiss is relatively less expensive than many other hotels in the area, close to pretty much everything, and I thought was a great value for the money in central Ulaanbaatar. We even had an early departure and the front desk attendant rushed away to get us two take out breakfasts for the train. Everything in Mongolia was nice and friendly, (Except maybe the driving, which we thankfully left to our tour guide and driver) and this hotel just backed up our impressions even further!

I was on a tour that involved being out of UB a lot, so was in and out of the Edelweiss over a couple of week period. Rooms clean, staff helpful, some had some English ... all were pleasant ... particularly if I tried the most rudimentary Mongolian. Buffet style breakfast with a variety of items from which to choose ... variety seemed to depend on nationality of most people staying there. Instant coffee. Within walking distance to main areas of UB. Had some problems with hot water that got fixed. Had baths - not just showers! Will stay there again.
