Khongor is a great guest house centrally located in UB. The State Department Store is only a few minutes walk away. Useful services offered such as Airport pick, laundry and of course tours. I booked a 7 day tour with them travelling though the Gobi Desert. The price charged was by far the cheapest of any of the companies/guest houses I contacted for a quote. On the tour I witnessed spectacular scenery and the guide Wisdom was particularly enthusiastic and helpful for the 7 days. Would definitely stay and book with them again if I return to Mongolia.

Khongor was an excellent choice to arrange a 10-day trip around the Gobi Desert / Central Mongolia for me and my brother. They were super responsive and helpful in communication in the weeks leading up to our trip, and even helped customize a unique 10-day trip for us given our travel preferences. The guide / cook Umbara and driver Tseegii were both lovely and great travel companions for us on this trip. They made the trip very fun and insightful about Mongolia. We highly recommend using Khongor for your Mongolia adventure needs!

Ok so bare with me here. I'd like to point out that from some of the reviews I've read make me think like the author had unrealistic expectations. Mongolia is a unique, wild, beautiful and harsh place. I'm sure with enough money anything is possible but just know that you're going to be "roughing it" with pretty much any tour you do and that isn't necessarily a bad thing if you have an open mind. Guest house: It's a basic place but not quiet or comfortable. We stayed in a cheap hotel on our return to Ulaanbaatar and found it much more comfortable especially since we had a private washroom. Tour: Where should I begin. We planned a 10-day tour of Central Mongolia and the Gobi. We later found out that this was ambitious and the pace didn’t leave a lot of time to enjoy our destinations. We were able to extend our tour by a day to spend time at Terkh Lake. Our drive and guide accommodated us which we appreciated but then they also seemed to smell the money and tried to get us to extend the tour by 1-3 days several times. Pretty much everything we saw and did was stunning and I fully recommend Central and Gobi if you only have two weeks or so. The bad: Some things are understandable. We slept in uncomfortable beds and sometimes the food was almost always noodles with lamb, carrots and potatoes. I can live with all that. Our big problem was the guide. If anyone reads this I would suggest you meet your guide before you start the tour. See if you are a good match and make a decision based on that. Our guide was awful, a younger girl from the city with little connection to her culture and couldn’t answer any of our questions. In nor particular order she… -showed no interest in making any kind of conversation -used her cell phone to post selfies she was taking on facebook but lied about not having reception when I wanted to search a way to fix my camera that broke on the 2nd day -fought with the driver in front of us then spent days in silence even crying at one point -never gave us any information unless we asked and even then, the most common answer was “maybe” -left us alone several times on cliffs, hikes, etc -told my partner to “eat around it” when she was served meat after asking for vegetarian SEVERAL times -when we asked about getting a sim card she said it was impossible but I managed on my own to get a sim card with data for under $1 -just a lot of other misinformation, laziness and lies The good: Our driver was amazing and saved the entire tour. Despite not speaking English he did his best to explain things. He made sure to invite us into the family Gers and we even got the chance to be involved in a wedding celebration. Most of the special moments on the trip wouldn’t have happened without his initiative.

Let us first start out by saying that we LOVE Mongolia - a country that definitely deserves to be explored. We are so happy we found Khongor Guest House which is now celebrating its 20 Year Anniversary. Congratulations on providing travellers with an insight into your beautiful country. You are true ambassadors and should be very proud. From day one, Khongor Guest House felt like home. Bulga picked us up at the airport and took very good care of us during our entire stay. He is such a great guy and goes above and beyond to make his guests happy! His English is excellent and he helped us plan the perfect 15-day tour of the Gobi, central and northern Mongolia. From start to finish, our tour scores a perfect 10!!! We loved every minute. Our guide, Bayasaa (Joy) and our driver, Dorjoo, were simply amazing. A perfect, professional team, they looked after us like we were family and proudly showed us their beautiful country. By the end of the tour, we had become great friends. Khongor is very lucky to have them both on their team. We also took a 2-day trip to Gorkhi-Terelj National Park. We hired a great driver named Enkhbayar through Khongor to take us there and back, stopping at the Genghis (Chinggis) Khaan Statue on the way back to Ulaanbaatar. Terelj is a stunning place and the ger camp was perfectly situated to explore the area. In total, we ended up staying at Khongor for 2 weeks. We loved this guest house (and the convenience of having a kitchen to prepare some meals was an added bonus). The guest house is kept very clean, the location is excellent - very convenient and central - within walking distance of almost all of the main sites, and the fabulous staff keeps it running perfectly. Would we come back to Mongolia, stay at Khongor and book another tour with them? Without a doubt! We still have the Eastern and Western parts of the country to explore. :) Thank you to the entire team at Khongor for making our experience in Mongolia such a memorable one. We will never forget your kindness.

Khongor is centrally located and as such, is perfect for those needing some last-minute gifts, souvenirs or groceries. The huge State store is right down the street and eateries abound. The one thing that I appreciated most was that it was largely quiet. As a solo traveller, I am increasingly distressed by the lack of facilities that aren't part of a bar, a party down spot or right over a busy corner. I was able to sleep hard and well in preparation for a long week in the Gobi. I'm glad I nailed a spot with them on the return, as I gave the Lotus Guesthouse a try, That was a massive mistake. While they are lovely people, my outfit had paid for two nights, but i lasted two hours. My window was right above a Circle K store and it was so noisy I couldn't hear myself think. I had to move elsewhere, not to Khongor, but I will be back. I already had all my trips scheduled, and the rest of the time I had to take care of a great many details and interviews. Otherwise I'd have hired them for an outing. Very patient and helpful staff, and I met quite a few lovely people in the breakfast room. My only complaint: dry white bread, margarine and jam do not an adequate breakfast make. Bring your own. The kitchen is limited but serviceable.

The Guest house is located on one of the main avenues of UB ( Peace avenue ) at approx 500 m of the Sukhbaatar square (which represents the main center of the town ) For the low prices asked for accommodation very clean rooms. Helpful stuff on the reception desk which is also the office where the tours are set. Unfortunately due to my limited available time to travel around I made no tour with them but from the other tourists I interacted were showing satisfaction of what they got using Khongor organised tours.

My translator and Guide Dulguun and my Driver Ganbaa (Mike and Ben - their Aussie names for my benefit) were instrumental in making my Gobi Desert tour a memory of a lifetime. As a female travelling on her own I wondered if this was such a good idea in this harsh environment but it turned out to be the most wonderful authentic and unique experience ever. These two Mongolian gentlemen did everything they could to show me the most beautiful parts of their world. Nothing was too much bother with many stops for unusual photos along the way. Their combined knowledge of this vast land and warmth and genuine care of me was heart warming. I was always safe in their care. From the Flaming Cliffs to Khongoryn Els Sand dunes, Yolyn Am Valley, friends of Ganbaars in their nomadic Gers, camel rides, the many animals roaming the plains were all seen thanks to the sensational driving over some rough tracks from one very skilful Driver Ganbaar. Dulguun was able to give me the most wonderful history of Mongolia and was so patient with my endless questions. I thank you both for such a rare extraordinary personally tailored tour.

I was a solo traveller, thrilled with seeing Mongolia and heard many things about Khongor, all positive. All I felt after the tour was negative. They drive you somewhere, you see the sight for one hour and then you leave and stay with a nomadic family that you never see. Waste of time and money. I think all the tours are like this though, no just khongor but it all depends on your tour guide, alrhough I don't see the point in them all you need is a driver. Waste of money, don't bother. Just go yourself by local bus to the national parks and then leave. The nomadic people don't profit and it doesn't improve their lives, just tour companies taking advantage.

The guesthouse itself was a clean and nice place to stay. It was in the centre of town and easy to find, but the real recommendation comes down to the tours they give. My friend and I did a tour of the Gobi for six days, and the selection of scenery we saw was incredible. Most importantly, our guide Emma was incredible, and made us feel incredibly comfortable all the way through our tour, and our driver was equally impressive, especially due to the lack of roads. It was an unforgettable and beautiful experience. Mongolia is beautiful in itself, but the staff at Khongor are something special
