I was on a tour and stayed at this hotel. I was pleasantly surprised at all of the amenities in the room, including a washing machine and a fridge/freezer. The view was quite nice from the windows that were on two sides of the room. There is a nice indoor/outdoor bar nearby. The hotel is a little out of the way though, and the streets seem to have lots of large puddles. The shower had good pressure until you put on the hot water. Also, on two occasions, I asked for wake up calls and never received them. I would have been very upset if I hadn't woken up on my own.

This hotel was picked as the first and last day of our Gadventures tour. Nice location hotel with AC and spacious rooms. Beds were very comfortable The staff is very friendly. They stored a big suitcase for me at no cost and helped ordering taxis Breakfast is very copious and delicious.

Room was Clean. It had stove, fridge, washer and phone(No info on phone what number to call desk). After I figured out the TV remote--got it! They do not exchange money but bank 2 doors down on right. You have to go to the left, thru doors and its there. MOST places again do not take credit cards. AND they still love USD. Break: lots there but mostly local food. Did have rice, bread, Cf, Tea, pancakes, eggs(cold), cereal with warm milk, then 8 more locals. Did a tour thru them but no Credit card. $100. I thought a little high for what it was. Visited 3 things but they were FAR from the city. The outside door was weird. When I left the room the door did not lock. You have to push the bar on the hall side to lock it. I never knew if it was locked inside the room. Within walking, there were other rest and business. Its a 9 story building but only have rooms til 4th floor. Other businesses there. Front desk was great. I had arranged for airport pickup. For the forth time this trip, NOBODY there. A lady approached me for a taxi. Told her about hotel and she called them. They not coming, so I rode with her $25. Ride back with hotel was $30.

All staff are friendly and kind except one guy name Telman sitting front desk young guy with glasses (I’m hoping he said his name right when I asked him), dark hair, very rude guy screams and loses temper quickly. I had three incidents with him, once I had heavy smoke smell in my room, even though it’s non smoking Hotel someone in another room was smoking and smell coming to my room I told him and he lost temper started screaming, (the hotel should put smoke detectors in rooms so people won’t smoke) Second time I was asking for direction and I had to repeat what he said to make sure I understood the direction correctly, it was my first day in UB so I was not familiar with streets. He raised his voice and threw my map on his desk walked away to his computer and turned his face and literally ignored me. That is bad, very very bad and if he can not work in hospitality and has anger issues then he should not work in a hotel nor interact with people bec of his anger issue. Third was another issue again with him I won’t go in detail as my review is getting long.
Telman is completely unhelpful and rude and screams when you talk to him. Sadly most staff don’t speak any English at all, so during his shifts he is the only one speaks English but he screams and looses temple fast. So it’s difficult to communicate with anyone else bec of language barrier and this Telman guy is rude.
Only the location of this hotel is good, it is close to the square, 15 min walk to square, cross street there is a Nice to CU supermarket. Otherwise this Telman dude front desk is horrible. I’m hoping he said his name correct when I asked him what is your name bec he was screaming at me and I told him you are rude what is your name.

The rooms were clean and there was plenty of hot water in the shower. They have a restaurant on premise. There is massage office and coffee shop on premise as well. Front desk staff spoke good english and were quite helpful. There is plenty to do within walking distance.

We stayed at this fairly new Hotel for 3 days as part as our Trans Railway journey from Beijing to St Petersburg with G Adventures. The staff are friendly and helpful. The rooms are colourful and spacious. This hotel was very central to all the famous landmarks.

Such a treat after being squished in a train cabin from the trans-siberian. Even so, this brand new hotel has very friendly staff, great facilities and luxury spacious clean apartments. I managed to do three loads of washing in the new machine in the kitchen area, tried not to flood the fancy wet room style bathroom with lovely hot water and slept like a lamb in the ridiculously comfy beds. Note my opinion may slightly be skewed after 4 days on a train but if you have done the same route you will be crying out for this luxury too.

We stayed here as part of a G Adventures tour, and then again after the tour. I must say, I was pleasantly surprised at how nice this hotel is. The rooms were very modern, clean and the showers worked well. Breakfast was buffet style - it was small but adequate (it is in the hotel's Korean restaurant, so there is a lot of Korean food on the breakfast spread). My only complaint is that there is no AC in the hotel, and we arrived during a heat wave so it was extremely hot in the room at night (even with the windows open). TIP: If you are travelling to this hotel on a G Adventures trip and need to book extra nights, book with the hotel (or on booking.com) and not with G Adventures: they charge $50 more than the hotel charges per room, AND their rooms are always on the 10th and 11th floors. The rooms and floors 3 and 4 are not only less hot; they are fully equipped with a kitchenette, washing machine, fridge, etc. It is MUCH better value to go through the hotel directly. The rooms with kitchenettes do not have cooking equipment or dishes, however, so you would need to have your own supply or find some cheap ones at a nearby store. All in all, if I were to return to UB, I would definitely return to this hotel - it met all my requirements as far as cleanliness, location and comfort go.

All in all this place is average. Nothing to complain about it really. The breakfast is a mixed Asian/ Continental and the rooms are clean and decent sized. Some rooms have laundry facilities but most don't. The staff are friendly.

Depending on the time of day it will take 20-60 minutes by taxi to get from the airport to the J Hotel. Traffic in UB is terrible.
I have never seen an airport shuttle bus. A taxi from the airport will cost 20,000 to 30,000 tughrik ($7-$11). Agree the price before getting in the taxi. There will be lots of taxis touting for work at the airport. Most of the taxi's are private vehicles with no meter. There are ATM's at the airport or most taxi's will accept US dollars.
There are more places to choose from in the Ulaanbaatar area.
