2 stayed 2 nights on return journey from South Coast. Wish we had more days, didn’t expect anything less from Shangrila, the customer service once more outstanding. Reception area to rooms was very luxurious. We had an amazing view of the lake and Lotus Tower. Breakfast was amazing with a very big selection and like our experience in Hambantota staff couldn’t do enough for us. Very comfortable beds and spacious bathroom and shower. The pool area on 4th floor had stunning views and when we arrived we captured the most amazing sunset. Hotel is linked to One Galle Shopping centre , great location to shop and eat out too. Tuk Tuks and hotel cars available to visit Columbo sights.

I am a frequent guest at the Shangri-La chain of hotels, particularly the Shangri-La Colombo. My husband and I, being regular visitors to Sri Lanka, transitioned from another renowned hotel in Colombo to the Shangri-La when it first opened, largely due to the migration of many staff members from the former hotel to Shangri-La.

With our hectic schedule centered around cricket, we often found ourselves somewhat disorganized. Tharindu ensured that all our needs were met with remarkable efficiency—he required instructions only once, and everything was flawlessly maintained throughout our stay.
As I was working from the room during this time, I often left the desk in a rather disorganized state. However, every time the room was serviced, I returned to a clean, well-organized desk with thoughtful touches such as a replenished supply of note paper. Tharindu's attention to detail and professionalism went above and beyond, making our stay truly comfortable and stress-free.

I stayed in Shagri-La Colombo being part of Sri Lanka MICE 2023 Event. What instantly attracted me was a warm welcome from each and everyone of the staff members (from the valet to the security team right up to Guest Relations). When they welcome you they really mean it and it just made me feel so wonderful.
I first stayed in Room 1209 offering view of the Lotus Tower however the room has WiFi dead spot for some reason so Mr. Sachdev from Guest Relations moved me to Room 1222 offering sea view.
The room was well decorated, spacious, well lit, each with I believe a 42 inch Samsung Smart TV.
The staff was very courteous. The house keeping team was always on their toes in making me comfortable and happy.
Once I was ironing and I noticed that iron was leaving stains, I called house keeping and they replaced it immediately. The replaced iron was not working properly so without any further questions they just took my suit away and brought it well pressed in 10 minutes.
The main restaurant (all day dining) was "Central" with very lavish buffet offering a variety of cuisines. Part of the restaurant offered sea view which I really enjoyed while having breakfast. So smooth and so calm.
The hotel has a mall right next to it and there is a doorway that leads to the mall directly from the hotel.

This is a well located property facing the sea and the new Port city of Colombo.
I describe it as having all the right hardware but lacking in the right software. In other words, the quality of service fails to match the quality of the rooms, restaurants and public areas of the hotel
Initially, I was impressed with the emails prior to my arrival asking what I needed prior to arrival. My emails had quick and efficient responses. Then when I really needed some responses, the Reservations Dept went quiet! I telephoned and had a poor experience with the operator at the call centre who asked for my name 3 times and still got it wrong and then disconnected the call! When I called again, despite providing my reservation number, I was subject to a verification procedure which I thought was not necessary. And then the call was also disconnected. The 3rd call to the Assistant Reservations Manager never got through! I resorted to emailing again enquiring why I had not received a reply when the email had been copied to several hotel staff. Only then did one of them respond. This was a frustrating experience but which was a precursor of more to come
On checking-in, I was asked if I wanted to pay for breakfast. I agreed. However, the same staff spoke with me later that being registered on the Horizon Club room, breakfast was included. Why wasn’t this picked up when I checked-in?

The final frustration was to return to my room 3 hours after leaving the card on the door to make up the room - to find it was not cleaned. I called the Service Centre and was informed that someone would be sent immediately. Immediately never happened and I called again. Only after complaining to the F&B Manager, did the housekeeping staff come by to say they would attend to my room - but after cleaning another room! Only when I expressed further annoyance did he change his mind and have the room cleaned straight away
While waiting for them to clean the room, I had a call from “Guest Relations” asking “How was your stay so far?”. When I asked if she was aware of my issue with Housekeeping she said she did not know. Clearly the staff work in silos
In my opinion, the most important aspect of a hotel stay is the experience. When service levels fail to meet expectations, the experience is spoilt. Perhaps I have been too pampered at Shangri-la Kuala Lumpur and Singapore which may have wrongly set what to expect at Colombo.
If service levels can be improved, this is a place which I would recommend to stay. But if you’re fussy about service levels, then until things improve, maybe not

This is my first stay at Shangri-La Colombo and what a pleasant experience it is! From the moment I walked in I got the feeling that I am walking in to a lovely luxury hotel run by my family (I wish!). From the check-in process, which is so smooth and quick and made me wonder whether they actually checked me in, to the house keeping (who made the room impeccable every time they came in with a lovely touch), and every team member you meet - you will get the feeling that they are part of your family.
Well appointed rooms, with a great view across Colombo Port City and a great location adjacent to One Galle Face mall in the center of Colombo made it as a great choice for our stay.
In addition to all of these, I should say about the amazing Central restaurant. Excellent breakfast spread along with - should I say this again - an amazing caring team - I wanted to dine there forever!

I am just leaving the Shangri-La Hotel in Colombo, concluding my stay here. This was my second visit to this hotel. My first visit was in October 2024, and I must say, I was absolutely delighted back then, which is why I recommended it to a few friends who joined me this time.
However, my experience this time was somewhat different. It started right at check-in, which took an unreasonably long time. The staff was very friendly, but we had to wait far too long to get to our rooms, even though we arrived at the hotel after 3 PM.
Another issue was the selection of drinks at the pool bar—it was very limited, and I struggled to find something suitable for myself. Additionally, given the hotel's category and level, I expected better housekeeping services. Specifically, I anticipated a turndown service in the evening, but no one came to check if we needed anything. This was quite surprising to me.
One of the biggest disappointments was the dining experience. We had dinner at the à la carte restaurant, Shang Palace. We ordered a multi-course menu, and while the food itself was delicious, the service and presentation left much to be desired. Instead of serving individual portions for all five guests, they brought everything in large communal dishes and scooped the food onto our plates. The overall presentation was unappealing and not up to the standards expected from a luxury hotel.
Breakfast was an even bigger disappointment. I remembered Shangri-La for having one of the best breakfasts I’ve ever had. As someone who travels extensively for work—staying/inspecting in over 200 hotels per year—I had high expectations. This time, the experience was very different. I wanted fresh mango juice, which was readily available on my previous visit, but this time, the selection of fresh juices was extremely limited—they only had three options. I ordered an orange juice, but it never arrived. Similarly, I requested a coffee and was given one from a machine more suited to a three-star hotel, rather than a proper espresso from a professional machine. Even after specifically mentioning it, I received the same poor-quality coffee again. Overall, breakfast was a major letdown.
I must say that I am disappointed with the hotel. For my next visit to Colombo, I will have to reconsider whether I return. A renowned hotel chain like Shangri-La should not allow such a decline.

This hotel is one of the best value for a luxury property for business or pleasure. Outstanding staff, incredible views, pristine property and a home away from home for business.
I've been staying at this hotel for years during our construction and even during covid and protests they continued to exceed expectations and duty of care. I am greeted by name and a smile and always look forward to returning.
I am a bit of a creature of habit and like the same room and comfortable settings. They make sure my room and expectations are always met. It's not easy being away from home, but the friendly faces of the team at Shangri-La make it easier.
The Horizon club team is outstanding and Naveesha their service leader is such an outstanding representative and knows my preferences and departure requirements.
Herve their GM is outgoing, welcoming and goes above and beyond.
As business is starting to return it will become more challenging to hit the mark, but so far they are doing an outstanding job.

Stayed here with my friend. The hotel room was very small and minimal. For the price we payed, definitely not worth it. The hotel staff is very greedy for money. The tables, chairs, bed and all other wooden items, appliances, looks cheap. They use paint and other tricks to make them look expensive. Every item, service is expensive than other hotels. You’ll be better off staying at a different hotel with much better facilities for the same price.
Some of the basic items like tooth paste and tooth brush weren’t already there in the room. We had to order. The food was bad and room service took a long time. The rooms aren’t sound proof and the AC temperature is unadjustable. The Wi-Fi worked fine though. This hotel is one of the most expensive hotels in Colombo and when you compare with other hotels, Shangrila Colombo, definitely not worth the price. Customer service was slow. There’s something definitely wrong with the management. Some of the staff were rude when communicating. Please teach the staff how to communicate with customers. Definitely didn’t feel like a 5 star hotel and definitely won’t come here again.

Stunning interior, very professional and hospitable staff. My room was lovely and very comfortable. I booked in only really to sleep off a long-haul flight so I didn’t have a chance to make use of most of the facilities. I did sleep really well - I didn’t hear a sound from any other room, nor the exterior for the entire 1.5 days. Just a couple of gripes. I ordered a bottle of ordinary white wine, two small bottles of water and three juices to be delivered to my room and it cost over $100. No food. My choice not to bother converting the price in rupees to dollars as I was too tired but that seemed extortionate to me. It may be the going rate but I don’t stay at five star hotels often (or when I do, my husband pays!) Also the breakfast buffet looked wonderful if you have no dietary restrictions but for someone who cannot eat dairy there wasn’t much substantial to choose from. I did order eggs but they were cooked in butter so I had to leave them. Some more vegan options would be great. Bit of confusion with the pre-authorisation being deducted from my credit card even though I stipulated upon check in that I intended to settle in cash as I was worried I was maxed out on my credit card. All in all a beautiful hotel and I’d definitely stay again.
