My wife and I booked an en-suite room at the Piya Hostel, which is situated below the train track in Sultanahmet, away from the crowds but only a ten-minute walk from Sultanahmet Square, the Blue Mosque and The Hagia Sophia. The area around the hostel looks quite rundown but our room was clean and bright, the bathroom facilities were good...

This nice hostel is very well located and run by a nice family. Very clean and comfortable facilities. They offer breakfast (included) and the staff is happy to help. A good option for the tiny budget traveler.

Piya is very well located, close enough to Sultanahmet to be handy, far enough to be less touristy. The rooms are bright and the bedding and mattress' are great. Very crisp, and clean and very very comfy. The shower is very strong and hot water is always available. Breakfast is typical Turkish and does the job. The owner, is very...

Though not all of my experiences in Istanbul were positive, this place was definitely one of the highlights! The location was very close to the mosques and other sites, and it was easy to navigate. The owners were incredibly nice to us, and the breakfasts were great. We loved the tea! My friends and I rented the 4 person room.

It's in an obscure location, tucked in on quiet residential street beside the Aybacik Mosque which made it very very hard for us to find in the dark: many of the locals had never heard of it and the signage is off to one side, so it makes it difficult to see, if you are walking and looking for the...

i don't mean it in a mean-spirited way but really, you'd arrive with the idea that since this hostel is in sultanahmet which is the central area, it will be very safe and etc. however, it was far from that, it was so hard to locate this hostel because it was in an unorganized neighborhood and the road sign was...

Piya is in a prime spot if you want to see all the normal tourist attractions so plus for that. Price is great and comparable for the area as well. Breakfast was the same and won't change. Unfortunately if you don't like one thing, doesn't seem like swapping was an option. Bathroom and dorm were clean and guests were respectful....

I booked this hotel after reading good reviews at trip advisor. Firstly the rooms were nice and clean. The breakfast was same for 3 days and kinda got boring. My biggest problem was however with the unfriendly staff. No smiles, no tips on sight seeing. I booked a flight for kayseri and forgot to take a printout during day. I...

Stayed here a few days in the low season, almost no one there so it felt like we had the place to ourselves - the staff was very friendly and there is a free breakfast. You can't beat the location if you want to be close to all the museums and touristy sights. If you'd prefer to be going out...

I went to Istanbul on January 2014 and stayed 5 nights in Piya hostel. The hostel is quite difficult to find, but local people are usually very friendly and they will be happy to give you some information about it. The hostel is right behind the Blue Mosque, and is about 5 minutes walk from the tram stop. The rooms...

Staying in Sultanahmet

Neighbourhood Profile
Sultanahmet
With so many unmissable attractions within a mere stroll of each other – and all set around the site of an ancient Byzantine hippodrome – Sultanahmet is an overwhelmingly popular tourist destination, and a prime location for visitors to be wowed on a truly epic scale. Beyond the wonders of the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and more, this relatively small area of Istanbul somehow manages to retain an air of peace and calm. It offers visitors a significantly less celebrated but nonetheless pleasant network of quaint lanes and side streets, majestic panoramas of the Bosphorus, and an impressive assortment of accommodation options for all budgets and tastes.
