The website states the reception is 24 hour. I still emailed with no response to confirm I would be arriving just after midnight only to find the place locked up with some out of service phone numbers attached to the door. What budget flight DOESN'T arrive at a stupid time?! The entire country was teetering on the brink of civil...

The hostel is very well located near Galata Tower so you can easily reach Istiklal caddesi and Taksim square by foot. At the same time you can get Sultanahmet (where most of the "must see" places are located just walking. The hostel has a terrace with a wonderful view of the Galata Tower. You can also see Hagia Sophia, the...

Galata West is incredible value for money in Istanbul's Beyoglu district. The hostel is in a small alley within walking distance of Galata Tower and the Ataturk bridge, both of which you can see from its lovely roof-top terrace, along with such landmarks as the Hagia Sofia and the Blue Mosque. The hostel is a recently remodeled, five-floor walk-up with...

Having spent a lot of time in hostels this is by far my favourite and this is where I've stayed for the longest period of time. It's also the only place to where I've gone back more than two times. The vibe of the hostel is normally fantastic but of course it depends of the other guests. There is more...

Having visited in January, the biggest problem was the heating which was just not sufficient. Also, there was often the shortage of hot water on the upper floors. Also, the showers could use some cleaning. The breakfast was good, also the was free coffee and tea all day long. The view from the terrace was really nice. All in all,...

Staying in Beyoglu

Neighbourhood Profile
Istanbul’s most famous street, pedestrianized Istiklal Caddesi (Independence Avenue), throbs day and night and offers a fantastic array of architectural sights, shops, treats, and throngs upon teeming throngs of people. At the avenue’s northeastern end is expansive Taksim Square, thought by many to be the very heart of the city, with many of Turkey’s most renowned restaurants and some of Europe’s most happening nightlife in close proximity. In striking contrast, Beyoglu’s less trafficked areas – such as the affluent Cihangir and the antiques district of Cukurcuma – exude Old World charm and provide contemplative calm and splendid diversion via an assortment of cozy cafes, attractive boutiques, and quiet lanes.
