The photos weren't true and reflecting how bad was this hotel. The hotel was very old and the lighting as well. But in the same time the room was clean!! The front-desk staff were only helpful and nice upon our checkout. The wifi coverage was awful and not accessible in all rooms. Breakfast was not good at all, a bit...

Upon visiting Istanbul in a high season, we had to choose a good hotel with good rates for a stay with the family, but the photos weren't very clear about how bad was this hotel. The hotel was very old in a bad way, almost everything was broken and missing a screw at least, rooms and lighting were as if...

I like this hotel very much as I had stayed in another newer hotel in Fatih last year. What you see on the website is what you get. At the other newer hotel, I was given a very small room with no windows although the booking site offered street views. At Berr hotel, the room was quite large and the...

Stayed here while visiting family. Average hotel, but good value for the money. Near to facilities and metro. The reception is dark and dingy, but don't let that put you off as the bedroom was clean and comfortable. The downside for us was no kettle in the room. We drink a lot of hot drinks and if you order from...

I had visited Istanbul for a week by staying at this hotel. Rooms were neat and clean, hotel receptionists were also good at english and always ready to help. It takes only a 5 minute journey to most of the touristic places if there isnt much traffic. Breakfast was also ok, but as an Indian the breakfast could have been...

This hotel was a great pick for my last trip to Istanbul. It is about a quarter mile off of the main street in the area and a short walk to public transit. Small groceries and restaurants close by with access to ATMs. The counter staff was VERY helpful and provided good information for a tourist. They also offer currency...

The location is nice The hotel cannot be (****), no facilities of 4 stars hotels. Only have nice spa and message center. Small triple room. Very slow wifi. Nice reception men and good cleaning. The breakfast buffet was just ordinary.

Rented 2 rooms 2 single beds each. Pros: The floor was empty, so lot of privacy, it was safe. Quiet Heating. Plenty hot water. 2 supermarkets & 3 banks across the road. Good Breakfast. Can walk to see monuments. Helpful reception man assisted at tour bookings. Cons: When first entered the rooms, each room had a massive fly. One room...

Staying in Fener & Balat

Neighbourhood Profile
Fener & Balat
This sleepy and rather socially conservative area of Istanbul hosts a small but thriving Jewish community, the patriarchate of the Eastern Orthodox Church, and some of the most beautiful churches and Christian art in the world. Much of what’s most interesting to witness in Fener and Balat sits between the surviving ancient city walls of Constantinople and the serene shores of the Golden Horn. Despite the many splendid sights, historic attractions, stunning vistas, and warm Turkish welcome, the area remains largely unperturbed by the tourist trade that characterizes the atmosphere in nearby Sultanahmet and around the Grand Bazaar. Travelers that like to explore off the beaten track will reap big rewards for making the effort to visit this low-key part of town.
