I owe these folks a review since my brief stay there in December 2013! Of course the location and cost (around $50/night) made it me for me above average. Also I left my camera there and the manager kept it safely for me until I returned to get it (two weeks later). So honesty is invaluable in my view. I...

Location and convenience that's what you want when you stay in the old section of Istanbul as opposed to staying near Taksim, north of the Galata Bridge.across the Golden Horn. Yes, it's not a five star as in a glitzy hotel but it is good value. I have stayed at the Petrol five times on four separate trips to Turkey....

My mistake I didn't checked with tripadvisor first. I felt I was being cheated by the nice photos in the website. I choose this hotel because of its location near sultanahmet. The room was not maintained, no toilet pad, unsafe wiring, no minibar. Choice of food: bad.

It pains me to give this place One Star, as the accommodations are generally nice; the hotel is located in beautiful Sultanahmet (literally a stone's throw from the Blue Mosque), is cheaply priced, and has generally decent internet (they did turn the wifi off during night hours, which was irritating). However, several times a day our room would smell like...

An absolute disgrace of a place that has hopefully closed by now. We stayed there, or rather attempted to stay there, in August 2012. We had arrived after a long drive from Veliko Tarnovo in Bulgaria, and just wanted a place to crash for the night. What we got was an absolute nightmare. Our room was filthy, the whole place...

I stayed at Petrol Hotel in Sep '12 with family and small kids. The hotel seemed clean initially with friendly staff. Rooms were very small and unfurnished. The hotel is located right next to the SultanAhmet tram station. It is very convenient to get the tram from there but the ringing of tram bell was a constant disturbance. However the...

Expect only average if u are used high standard demanding rooms and breakfast BUT: you can nowhere buy such a view at breakfast from the roof ! Opposite the blue mosque, the harbour down the hill, the cisterns around the corner! There is no better starting point to explore the sultans palace, the market, local food! Get local ferries, not...

Staying in Sultanahmet

Neighbourhood Profile
Sultanahmet
With so many unmissable attractions within a mere stroll of each other – and all set around the site of an ancient Byzantine hippodrome – Sultanahmet is an overwhelmingly popular tourist destination, and a prime location for visitors to be wowed on a truly epic scale. Beyond the wonders of the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and more, this relatively small area of Istanbul somehow manages to retain an air of peace and calm. It offers visitors a significantly less celebrated but nonetheless pleasant network of quaint lanes and side streets, majestic panoramas of the Bosphorus, and an impressive assortment of accommodation options for all budgets and tastes.
