II would like to take the time to write on my wonderful X-Perience at the Hotel Sapphire. My friends, Antoinette Harris, Ira Serapio & Jonnie Crews and I stayed at the hotel from October 25-28, 2008. We were treated like royalty. I was celebrating my 44th birthday on October 27th while in Istanbul. I received a wonderful birthday cake, champagne...

This is a great hotel in the heart of Sultanahmet, and reasonably priced too for a 4-star. The location is great -- it's a 2 minute walk to the Gulhane station, a 5-10 minute walk to Topkapi Palace, Haghia Sophia and Blue Mosque, and there are several good restaurants surrounding it. It has a Turkish bath and heated swimming pool,...

At the end of October 2008 I stayed 7 days at the Sapphire. I have never regretted my decision. So, here are some details. LOCATION: As everyone says, you're in the center of many of the main attractions. The hotel is wonderfully located between Eminönü (harbour) and Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosk etc. You have easy access to the tram, 200m...

We especially liked the friendliness of chief receptionist. He has been very helpful in all ways (general advice, restaurant reservations, directions...). Good to note that my credit card (left in the room) has been given back to me immediately after checkout. Main thing about the hotel is location: walking distance from most of the tourist attractions and easy to get...

We stayed at Sapphire in early October for 3 nights and again mid-October for 1 night before flying back to the US. Overall, the hotel was good. The location was very close to the historical sites (although nightlife seemed a bit better near Taksim so maybe better to stay in that district if staying out very late). The tram was...

This hotel is a real gem - in the old part of the city, 5 minutes walk from the sea and 5-10 minutes from the major tourist sights. The staff could not have been more helpful - from our free airport pickup to detailed information and directions for sightseeing. And while some hotels look and feel like they could be...

Hotel Sapphire is a nice hotel with good and clean rooms with kind and helpfull staff. Breakfast is very well: you can choose it yourself. When leaving the hotel we forgot something that was still in the safetybox. The staff found it and sent it to us in Holland. The room was cleaned intensively every day. Also outside the rooms...

We really enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Sapphire. It was on a narrow street with no cars but lots of restaurants nearby. It was an easy walk to anyplace in the old city. The trolley stop was one street away. They had cards at the desk to show taxi drivers where to go which was very handy since many...

Staying in Sultanahmet

Neighbourhood Profile
Sultanahmet
With so many unmissable attractions within a mere stroll of each other – and all set around the site of an ancient Byzantine hippodrome – Sultanahmet is an overwhelmingly popular tourist destination, and a prime location for visitors to be wowed on a truly epic scale. Beyond the wonders of the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and more, this relatively small area of Istanbul somehow manages to retain an air of peace and calm. It offers visitors a significantly less celebrated but nonetheless pleasant network of quaint lanes and side streets, majestic panoramas of the Bosphorus, and an impressive assortment of accommodation options for all budgets and tastes.
