I stayed here for 2 nights at the end of January with my other half. We loved the hotel. It is centrally located just a few minutes’ walk from Jaffa Street tram station. There are a few casual places to eat nearby but I recommend taking the tram to the Machane Yehuda area where there is a plethora of bars, cafes and restaurants to suit all tastebuds and budgets.

Our bedroom was spacious and luxuriously appointed, including a coffee machine and a small fridge. The shower was huge!

The heated indoor swimming pool was great and long enough to swim some lengths. We also used the sauna and steam rooms.

There is a nice bar in the lobby area which offers a reasonable selection of beers, wines and spirits. We had a couple of glasses of Israeli wine which were lovely and not outrageously priced.

We found the reception staff to be really helpful. They arranged for a taxi to collect us very early in the morning to drive us to the airport and they prepared us a boxed breakfast so we didn’t miss out.

The buffet breakfast is amazing with an overwhelming selection of food and drink and great views.

This really is an excellent hotel and we would definitely stay again.

What made the stay especially good was the great service we received when we checked in. Sami at the front desk was extremely helpful in accomodating our special requests .
The room was on a high floor, I was worried ahead about the rooms being noisy, but we didn't hear a thing from the street
Breakfast was plentiful. The spa was empty a lot of the time. Many other hotels in Jerusalem rent out their swimming pool as a health club, but the Herbert Samuel reserves the pool exclusively for hotel and spa guests, which gives a luxurious feeling and means it's not crowded.
The location is fantastic, a minute from Ben Yehudah, right in the center of Jerusalem
The only thing I would suggest to improve is providing parking. The building does have underground parking, it's a pity it's not available for the use of hotel guests.

This was our first stay in Jerusalem and this location allowed us to walk to many of the sites. There are also many very good restaurants and shops nearby. The hotel was clean, and the breakfast was fantastic! Raphael, the host, greeted us every morning with a warm smile and made us always feel welcome. I highly recommend this hotel!

We thought this hotel would be a better quality .Herbert Samuel spends more effort on their marketing then they do training their staff to be more attentive and polite.
Aside from the ONE person that checked us in ,the overall staff was dismissive and absent. The bed was uncomfortable and the location of the hotel makes it a must to wear earplugs because of street noise.
The ultimate was when we called the front desk in the morning ,using the service button on our phone to request an iron and ironing board. (there was no answer).
I walked downstairs and both men “working’ the front desk were in chairs in the lobby with headsets to their phones. Not even behind the reception desk.
The receptionist had the audacity to tell me that I dialed incorrectly and there were no incoming calls.Even though his movie was still playing on his phone.
He Told me that I need to press zero ,rather than the service button on my phones .
I was shocked ,as he became confrontational with me .I believe his name was Nania or something close to it.
This is one of those situations when it pays spend $100 more to be in a higher caliber hotel with professionally trained employees. Mind you this is non-peak season and we paid over $200 a night for this while other hotels in Jerusalem were 80 to 100 .
We received an email before we arrived . It was addressed incorrectly . We sent an email back correcting the oversight to Danny Bukovsky the general manager. We never had a response .However, the day we checked out we received And auto generated email asking us how our stay was!
I think this pretty much sums it up

We have a Deluxe room- incredibly small. 3 nights. They wanted to charge 50% of the room charge for a third person ( a child). We had to change rooms due to noise( very thin walls) from very loud neighbors. Didn’t replace the one wash cloth nor bathroom amenities the next day. We had to request 3 times to get some washcloths. Unbelievable. We only received the wash cloths after talking to the hotel manager. We asked for the rollaway to be done while we were sightseeing during the day. Got back at 4:30 and it was never done. Manager offered us a bottle of wine for inconvenience. Never received. We followed up twice and it still hasn’t arrived at 9:40 pm and we are leaving tomorrow morning. The concierge is very knowledgeable and helpful. The only saving grace of this hotel.

The hotel is located in the center of Jerusalem. Not bad, but its not a beautiful area. When you arrive, you have to go down a few stairs because the ramp is located in a different area. The staff is not friendly. Especially a man in the front desk called Tamor. The rooms are not as shown in the pictures. They are a but old, damaged, and nothing special. The bathroom is very dark. If you want to order water or milk for the coffee, they charge you around $5, but you can get it in the lobby for free.

We stayed from Thursday - Sunday, so we experienced Shabbat during our stay. We thought that business was going to be as usual. However, during Shabbat, there is no room service, breakfast is very basic (no espresso machine, no fresh juice, no omelette, no toaster, and no warm food). Not worth paying for breakfast if you stay during Sabbath. On Sunday morning, we also had a very basic breakfast because they said they had to clean the kitchen after Sabbath. Something I had never heard of.

When they cleaned our room on Saturday, they removed all of our glass cups or tea cups and replaced with carton. They did not provide more coffee pods nor creamer.

There is no ironing board in the rooms, and when you call to request one, they provide one that is barely hot.

Every-time you call the front desk, they transfer you to 5 different lines instead of immediately helping you.

Be careful when you book here, there is chance that you won’t get the room you see on the description and on the pictures.

The superior rooms are very different between them even though being on the same category. They initially gave us a superior that is much smaller even than a standard room, we couldn’t even fit 2 suitcases in there. The staff claims it was a superior (which is what we paid for) but they ended up changing us after we asked a lot. On another situation we had a night on a standard room and it is much better and more spacious than the first superior they gave us. They say the difference is due to the layout of the building and furniture, but then it makes no sense to make us pay more for a supposedly superior room if it’s one of the most unprivileged rooms in the hotel.

We gave ourselves the trouble of measuring the room to see if it’s as advertised, but the first room wasn’t. It also didn’t match the pictures, and they said it is due to outdated pictures on the website, but how come if it’s just a 3 year old hotel? I saw a lot of superiors and none of them were as big as on the pictures and they didn’t have a corridor as the pictures show (and as I mentioned, some are more spacious than others. Avoid superior rooms ending in 18, 19, or 01). You may notice their website uses the same pictures for the superior and the deluxe, so you get there expecting something different than what they’ll give you.

Also the staff at the front desk wouldn’t even wait for us not to be in front of them to start making disrespectful remarks about us and the situation to their colleagues. They do it in Arabic thinking they won’t be understood, but unfortunately for them and for us, we understood clearly.

The hotel does deserve a star because of the excellent location and good breakfast. And if they’re willing to give you the room you booked, it is actually a good room. Just don’t expect much of the service and that you’ll be treated nicely.

We recently booked 7 rooms at the Herbert Samuel hotel in Jerusalem for a family celebration through an agent.
We booked and paid for the Friday night dinner in advance at $85 per adult and $42 per child. On the Jewish holiday (erev Sukkot) some of my family wanted to eat at the hotel in the sukkah. I made a reservation for 10 adults and 8 children with the food and beverage manager The sukkah at the hotel is extremely disappointing, narrow and not completely open to the sky. Technically only the men sitting against the wall were in kosher sukkah This is unacceptable for a 5 star hotel. The buffet was identical to the Friday night dinner except that the service was poor, the family was split as the sukkah was too small to accommodate everyone together, the plates could not get cleared and the restaurant was not even full.
The managers knew the price that I paid and there was no disclosure of the new price on making the reservation. I presumed that the charges would be the same as what we had paid previously.
On check out an amount of $127 /ILS450 was charged per adult and half for children.(50% higher) My brother-in-law had requested that his 2 dinners be credited from our account as he paid for those himself. The credit was not passed. There was no management available, and we were not phoned to discuss the incorrect bill as had been requested. An unauthorized amount of $1800 was processed for the dinner.
We contacted the agent to get the duplicated charge refunded and the costs of the dinner reduced.
I have since been in contact with a manager of the hotel by telephone and many emails and none of my requests have been professionally and satisfactorily answered. I was told that the hotel will not deal directly with a client when an agent is involved. However this booking was made directly with he hotel. .
We have been refunded for the duplicated charges and a maximum discount of 18% passed on the meal charge which was actually 50% more than the identical dinner that we had on Friday.
There was no value for money for the dinner and the complaint was extremely poorly handled by the incompetant front desk and management.
The only good aspect of the hotel is the location.
My advice is – make your own bookings on the internet or directly with the hotels, do not be naïve and trusting and make sure you know the costs of any additional services so that you will not be ripped off.
This has been the worst hotel experience in all my years of travel.which has been over many decades.

Having stayed at a “5 star hotel” in Tel Aviv for 5 nights before staying here, I was very happy with my stay here. The hotel is amazingly situated in the heart of Jerusalem on Shamai Street, with some very pretty umbrellas and near to lots of live music, high-end shops both fashion, judaica, etc and some nice restaurants. There is a sushi restaurant that is quite good within 2 minutes walk. The one thing I did not love at the hotel was the breakfast - the selection is huge dont get me wrong which I was very keen on at the beginning however when actually eating stuff it is not so good. There is a place where they cook eggs to your liking however i did not like it as tasted very fried as it was cooked at high heat in a horrible oil. The indoor pool at the hotel is very nice as is the sauna. I highly recommend spending some extra cash on a deluxe room, as they are almost double the size and a good size. The rooms are nice inside and the bathroom is well equipped with a great shower. The hotel makes very nice cappuccinos. Shoutout to Elad, the hotel concierge who seems to never stop working, he was sooooo good for us. He booked us tours that we wanted and tickets to what we wanted and was available almost 24/7 whenever we needed him. Another great staff member was Camie who was very helpful at the front desk. The bathroom in the room was a bit dirty upon arrival so we did need to call and ask them to re clean it. The view is nothing special but not awful either. The location is so good as previously mentioned although try hard not to get ripped off by cab drivers. I reccomend going to Machneh Yehudah market for some amazing authentic Jewish and middle eastern food, as well as of course the Old City, Yad Vashem and a day trip to Dead Sea and Masada is a must as well for a unique experience.

My husband and I went to stay at the Herbert Samuel Hotel in Jerusalem for our stay in Jerusalem. I usually do not write reviews, but I felt the need to write a review to express our deep gratitude. Firstly, the hotel is in the BEST location, right by Ben Yehuda. Second, the rooms were so classy and beautiful. The staff was so professional. The highlight of our stay was what we encountered every morning during breakfast: Chef Tarek. We are so so impressed with him. The food IS AMAZING!! More than that, Chef Tarek is a man with great hospitality and warmth. He accommodates his hotel guests with top quality meals. Everything he makes is with utmost quality and excellence and so flavorful.

His charisma along with his professionalism is apparent to all who meet him. He is a wonderful man to meet. My husband and I are really impressed with him because of his exceptional warmth and care for his guests. At the time we first met him, he went out of his way to smile, say hello, help us with our requests and made sure we’re comfortable. We are so impressed with him from his vast knowledge of recipes and Middle Eastern cuisines. Everything tasted amazing!!!!!!!!! He even told us some recipes and made sure we were always escorted, even when we had to check out of the hotel. We were engrossed in conversation everyday with him at our stay at the Herbert Samuel Hotel for almost an hour at the breakfast table. His warmth and care for his clientele knows no bounds. As a token of appreciation, he sent us a plate of fruits. drinks, and snacks to our suite. We are very very grateful to him! He is a truly wonderful man and person!!!

We wanted to write this review as a thank you for making our stay so special that it exceeded our expectations!! Thank you for all that you do!
