The positives:

A still very new hotel with modern styling, conveniently located in Gangnam-Gu about 2 min walk from Seolleung metro station. Because of this, easy to reach by public transportation. Quiet room, excellent beds and (in comparison) large bathroom with good shower. Rooms and public areas were kept very clean. Booked a Superior Double which was rather small, fine for one person but with two it would be a bit cramped. But it has everything you need, incl. cooker, safe, bathrobe etc. Possibility to do the laundry for reasonable price and good free wifi available in the room. Friendly staff but a bit distant, maybe not confident in their English? It varied from person to person. Luggage storage after check-out was not a problem, so that was a nice service.

The negatives:

The opening hours of the breakfast buffet (till 9am on weekdays, 9.30 in weekend) are strictly enforced: half an hour before close they would already inform you about this and even though probably not meant that way, this came across like 'please finish now'. Quality of breakfast varies: some items were good, some were not (cold eggs...). All things considered I think you're better of to get breakfast at one of the many places around the hotel for better value for money. The climate control in the room was inadequate: even with AC full on 19-21C ('European' temperature), the temperature didn't really drop below 23C even with windows open at night. No comfortable seating arrangement in my room. Not so much a negative, but more a general remark: it is not clear what the hotels wants to be. A business hotel or a leisure hotel? It ticks a lot of boxed for both, but doesn't really commit to one of the two. Could become even better if it focused on one.

Hotel Newv was the perfect place to stay for our weekend get away. It's a five minute walk from Seolleung Station which was very convenient for us. It's only 1 stop away from the big COEX mall and two stops away from Gangnam station. The staff were friendly and spoke English well. They were also able to store our luggages even after we checked out.

In terms of cleanliness, our room was very neat and tidy. They supplied us with fresh toiletries everyday (i.e. shampoo/conditioner). If you are a tourist, just know that it isn't in the heart of tourist attractions like Myeongdong, the Namsan Tower, or the Palaces. It will take at least 30 mins to get there by subway, however it is very easy to do so. With that being said, I would still recommend this hotel as it is away from the party scene, depending on what you're looking for.

Pros:
1. Convenient location
2. Well priced
3. Spacious room

Cons:
1. Bathroom lightings are overly bright, especially when the door and partition are mostly glass.
2. Pillows are a bit flat for our liking, and they do not provide extra pillow.
3. Room temperature is central control, we needed a fan for our 7 nights stay.

This hotel is located in a very non-tourist location, which is fine in most parts of the world; however, as non-Korean speakers we were lost...in translation. Staff spoke minimal English (except for the first woman on check-in day), even though the website says English is spoken. Upon arrival, we were put in a room with an overwhelming smell of cigarette smoke. We were moved immediately. The bathroom set up is super, super awkward. There is a full window to the bed without blind to pull, so you can be seen on the toilet or in the shower - zero privacy. The bed was a bit hard but tolerable. The smell in the hallway was a tad funky.

The breakfast is poor quality with limited selections for vegetarian/vegan and the food is the same. We had a lot of difficulty finding a restaurant close by that offered non-meat eating selections and ended up subsisting on PB&J when hotel staff could not make any recommendations (because of limited English). The main attractions for tourists are actually quite far from this location, taking a good hour to get into the heart of the city via metro/train. It was quite far from the place we went hiking too.

Generally, if you don't have business in the area, I would recommend staying elsewhere.

Staff refused to switch on airco "because it is winter", although room temp is nearly 30c. Impossible to get a decent night of sleep here.
Breakfast is okay, location is good... as if that would matter.

I was expecting this hotel to be pretty good or decent, however I'm surprised Hotel Newv had a rating of 4 and above considering my experience at this hotel. My first impressions of the staff is that they are very mediocre they are only doing their job and we didn't feel very welcome in the hotel with very limited capability of speaking English.

The first thing i noticed upon going up to my room was how dirty the hotel is, there was lots of dust and hair on the floor, carpet and walls with stains. Upon going into my room it was absolutely ATROCIOUS. Bed sheets had black stains, as if they weren't changed. Water marks on walls and lights, a huge water stain on the chair and bathroom with mould. Room stunk of cigarettes. Upon further inspection we noticed there was a water leak coming from the ceiling. I expressed my disappointment to the hotel and they only apologised and moved us to the room next door. No upgrades or anything else. I would not recommend this hotel, please spend your money else where.

This hotel struggles with identity.

From the outside and a few aspects of the inside, it is trying to compete with 4 star hotels.

Let me summarize the four star elements:
- gym
- cleaning staff

... And that's about it.

The rest of the hotel is trying hard to be 2 stars.

Our room was set to 26 celcius in December. A nice tropical escape from the 1 or 2 degrees Seoul was facing at this time. However, 26 is pretty horrible for sleep. When I asked to turn it down, the staff indicated that I could not and would just need to open the windows. Windows open in downtown Gangnam... Interesting noise pollution.

Let's talk about other interesting elements. After coming home from dinner one night, I was nibbling on a little snack passing through the lobby. Upon asking the staff a question, I was told I was not able to eat in the lobby. I was there for a grand total of 60 seconds and not under the influence of alcohol.

Don't leave your key in your room. If you do, be forewarned... The staff will tell you that each additional key beyond 2 will cost about 10 USD. You would think these keys have some monetary value, but no, they are just keys.

Finally (and I could continue), the staff at breakfast could use a lesson on when to ask a client to pay a bill. When that client has his hands full of food is probably not the right time.

... I'll spare my reviews of restaurant recommendations

Simple lessons in demeanor and a big upgrade in emotional intelligence will send this to 4 stars. But my chips are stacked in the other direction.

This hotel has low~middle price.
So reasonable price.

And clean and calm room.

I want to visit again later.

Not a bad hotel, with some work, could be a solid 4.

Good: gym is out of this world fantastic! I mean one of the best I've been to, and I've stayed at a lot of hotels in Korea. Free weights, olympic bar, wires, life fitness machines (i think that's the brand).

Room is very big and comfortable with all the amenities you need.

Bad - rooms are not clean enough. everything was lightly cleaned. Bathroom was kind of gross, shower room had mold or dirt stains, floor was not cleaned. Room smelled. I checked 4 different rooms and all had similar issues so it's systemic.

Recommendation: vacuum couch and clean the stains, air out the rooms after each guest and use a very light air deodorizer. BLEACH shower room after each guest!

I will give this hotel one more chance purely for the gym.

This hotel has clean and good conditions, also nice service! Thank you so much.

No. The double superior room had it's own air-conditioning that you can turn off / on and adjust. But the modesty of the bathrooms are terrible. There is little privacy.
