I loved the area (old Seoul) where the guesthouse is located. There are unique shops, pubs and cafes on the road/ lane leading to Sophia. And 5 min walk to the tube station. I stayed in a single room which is warm and big enough for myself. The rooms are well maintained and warm given that the house is 160-year...

The location is a walking distance to Bukchon Village. from Anguk stn exit 1 take right, passing olive young/anguk plaza) then turn right. Here we walk through long walls on both sides (I knew they are schools, but didn't see any student. maybe it's studying time ). Keep watching left after it, then the first small alley on the left...

I've stayed here for 3 times. This time, I stayed here in winter. But, the room was warm, and shawer was hot. I think, this house is one of the good traditional guest house in Seoul. There were no smell of tabacco. All of the rooms are free of smoking.

This is a genuine Hanok (including period furniture), so genuine that you pass the owner's living quarters on the way to and from the breakfast area (which is actually their kitchen). The owner's mother is a gem, with spirit and enthusiasm to spare. If you like the idea of staying in the Bukchon area of Seoul, you couldn't ask for...

We really enjoyed staying at Sophia Guesthouse and came back several times. The communal breakfast is lovely and the rooms are beautiful. The paper sliding doors and courtyard garden feels so relaxing. The whole place is very quiet. Beds are thick mats on the floor and there is no wifi or TV for a very authentic traditional Korean experience.

We were at Spohia's in September and were so happy that we found her Hanock Guest House on line. We were able to contact her by email to stay the following weekend and it was a great end to our 2 weeks in Korea. I was a little worried about the sleeping mats but in comparison to Korean beds we...

Staying here was a great experience. A nice way to see traditional life styles and get a nights sleep. The first thing you should know is that there are no beds. Not in the western meaning. You get a mat and bedding to lay on the floor. That being said, it was worth it. Historic, old rooms with get service...

Staying here with Sophia and her mom felt like visiting family. Sophia was very friendly and helpful. She wrote a note for me in Hangul on asking for a vegetarian version of a Korean dish at a nearby restaurant. Her mom is busy in the kitchen early morning preparing a satisfying breakfast for all the guests. When I return from...

It feels like you travel back in time a little when staying at this guest house. The house is in the old hanock style with a pretty courtyard and the rooms are all behind wooden sliding doors. There are still comforts like air conditioning which can come in handy if it's really hot outside. The area is very nice and...

Staying in Samcheongdong / Bukchon

Neighbourhood Profile
Samcheongdong / Bukchon
This historic neighbourhood was traditionally home to Seoul’s middle and upper-classes. Now it’s most famed for its clusters of beautiful, traditional Korean homes (called hanok), many of which are found in Bukchon. Many of these homes have now been converted into restaurants, cafes, shops, and even guesthouses, and their unique architecture offers a look at Korea’s traditional beauty. Samcheongdong’s main and side streets attract locals and tourists alike for their quaint and charming scenery, while the Blue House (Cheong Wa Dae) serves as the residence for South Korea’s president. Art fans will love exploring the many independent and private art galleries in the area.
