Nestled in a scenic location with breathtaking city views near Namsan Park, the Grand Hyatt Seoul Hotel offers a stay that many guests describe as welcoming and elegant, with a sophisticated atmosphere. While the attentive service and cleanliness of the hotel often receive high praise, some visitors express concerns over the high costs of amenities, which include a fitness center and pool, and the occasional datedness of these features.
Room experiences vary, with some enjoying the pristine views and others noting issues with noise and soundproofing.

Hotel's Favourite
The best part about the hotel is the outdoor pool and the huge rooms. The location is situated on a hill, which means you do get great views of the city, but it also means that it is not assessable by subway. However, even though the walk up and down the hill to the nearest subway station seems manageable by others, I didn’t walk up and down the hill but rather relied my entire six days spent here on buses, as they are very convenient with just stops right outside this property. Just remember to buy a t money card from any convenient store at the airport so that you can use it. The sole green bus immediately outside the hotel will bring you down and up the hill, so you can get to the nearest subway station. Slightly further out across the road, the two blue buses will get you to tourist hotspots in Myeongdong, or if in the side of the hotel, across the river to Gangnam, all in less than 30minutes. And Google maps do actually show you the connection and waiting time very accurately, if not the bus stops it also have highly accurate displays showing you the minutes needed for the bus to arrive. The airport bus also stops directly right at the doorsteps of this hotel so getting to and from the airport is no difficulty.
Room wise, they are decorated in soothing early tones, and extremely spacious. Bathing was comfortable with standard pillows and if you find the provided ones too soft, you can also ask for a memory foam film pillow like I did. I was given a room facing the hill and was surprised that on certain clear days the sunset was spectacular. The television in the room was huge, but could not be connected to your phone unless it’s an android, to stream content. Nonetheless channels were abundant.
The bathroom was a bit small compared to the size of the bedroom, with only a standing shower stall. There was also a bidet in the toilet. Toiletries are standard Grand Hyatt brand, Balmain, and since Korea recently implemented and no disposable amenity ruling, hotels no longer give out disposable items for free and you have to purchase them now, so do you remember to pack your toothbrushes and razors with you.
although I was initially concerned about the location, I do like it after staying here because it’s away from the noisy city center yet the buses provide an extremely easy and fast way to get into town. Since this is located in Namsan, you are almost equi-distance from Gangnam and Myeongdong. Most importantly, if you’re here for summer, the outdoor pool is a great way for you to relax, as they are not many hotels in Seoul that has an outdoor pool. Nonetheless do note that the sun chairs by the pool are usually reserved for day guests paying a daily fee instead of hotel guests.

Dear Gerald, Thank you very much for taking the time to share your detailed and thoughtful feedback following your recent stay with us at Grand Hyatt Seoul. We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed our outdoor pool, spacious rooms, and the serene location of our hotel. Your insights about the convenience of the bus services and the effectiveness of Google Maps for navigating around the city are greatly appreciated. It is wonderful to know that you found the bus system efficient and the T-money card useful for your travels. We are also glad that our proximity to key areas like Myeongdong and Gangnam added to the convenience of your stay. We appreciate your comments on our room amenities and the comfort of our bedding. It’s great to hear that you enjoyed the room decor and the spectacular sunsets from your room. We are sorry to hear that the TV connectivity did not meet your expectations, but we are pleased that the variety of channels provided was satisfactory. Thank you for noting the size of the bathroom and the standard of our toiletries. We are committed to sustainability and appreciate your understanding regarding the new policy on disposable amenities. Your reminder to future guests to bring their own toothbrushes and razors is very helpful. We are thrilled that you found our location away from the noisy city center yet still convenient for getting around. It's wonderful to hear that our outdoor pool provided a relaxing escape during your stay. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the sun chairs being reserved for day guests and will take this into consideration for future improvements. Once again, thank you for your kind words and valuable suggestions. We look forward to welcoming you back to Grand Hyatt Seoul in the near future. Kind regards, Peter Hildebrand General Manager

Great choice in Seoul for five star service and expansive city views. Full service hotel with an outstanding concierge staff, multiple dining and bar options, nightly live entertainment and a modern gym. Although the hotel has limited walking options for local dining, the complimentary shuttle bus is a great service. In addition affordable cabs in Seoul offset the inconvenient location to subway access.

I have been staying at Grand Hyatt Seoul sporadically over the last 12 years
(6 stays total). Each time I go back, I am amazed that the staff continue to provide outstanding customer service. From the Bellmen to Front desk to to the housekeeping staff, all great interactions and they always take care of me. I love the winter ice skating rink and the great vibe in the Gallery, not to mention the outstanding breakfast buffet,. You can work all that extra food off in the gym and follow up with sauna, spa, steam ( the spa cost an extra $27 USD, could be free depending on your loyalty status and/or room package). I will always seek out this Grand Hyatt when my travel takes me to Seoul !

Booked a standard mountain view double through hotels.com
The staff is probably in the top 3 of any hotel I have been to in my world travels. Extremely courteous and helpful and efficient, and also very likeable personally in every encounter I had, be it the front desk, restaurants, fitness center/pool, etc.
The room, although very clean, was tiny (no surprise as it clearly stated it is just over 30 sqm on hotels.com). The room furnishings/decor are very outdated and boring/plain but seem to have at least kept well. Bathroom is tiny. You can sit on the toilet and wash your hands in the sink at the same time of so inclined. Water pressure is good and the shower stall big enough to fit one person confortably.
The pool - large sized (25m?) and would make for a good pool to do laps in if they made an effort to designate a lane or two for actual swimmers as it was packed with people. I saw several people wearing their facemasks IN THE WATER. Disgusting! Lifeguards/staff did nothing when I pointed this out.
Guests are only allowed to use one out of three "sessions" per day to use the pool. This is NOT mentioned on hotels.com and you only find out via an email from the hotel once you have paid.
The pool tiling/grouting looks extremely old/worn and dirty, as is the entire area around it. Landscaping nice enough.
Food is ok & super expensive even for a 5 star property . Parking $10/day!
In my opinion, any $50-100 branded 3.5 ~ 4.0 star property in Bangkok has an equal or superior quality level.

The rooms while renovated still feel very old and outdated.
Stayed during a night when the hotel was fully booked. I understand that staff is doing best they can with what they have but the experience was so hectic and slow.
No wine glasses in the room so when asked for them, they charge 5,000 krw per glasses for delivery. Thought this was crazy, considering that this is Grand Hyatt. Also when asked to rent a phone charger, staff offered to take my phone, charge then bring it back. Did not feel safe doing that.
Overall disappointing experience. It was impossible to catch the elevator during checkout time.

When asked for an extra blanket - to avoid using same blanket in one-bed with my roommate - the front desk asked for $60 surcharge. It is unacceptable for guests to having to pay extra $60 for extra pair of blankets. While I understand that it is the policy of the Grand Hyatt Seoul, I would seriously reconsider my future visit to the GHS. Except for that, general stay was good.

First the positive. The hotel room view was great for viewing the Seoul Tower and mountain side. However there were several things that made our 2 night stay very inadequate and ruined the entire experience. We booked through AMEX FHR and with that came a $US 100 credit to be used inside the hotel/resort including food, beverage, spas, or any amenity to hotel offered as explained by AMEX. Once we check in we are told it only applies to food and beverage excluding alcohol. Upon checkout we also discover that the hotel uses their own currency conversation rate from USD to KRW which only gave us about $US 80 with no explanation other than its hotel policy.
With the FHR we asked for an upgrade from our room and they offered us a room with no view and on a lower floor that was connected to another room (doesnt sound like an upgrade) so we respectively declined.
Every amenity and I mean every one costs extra on top of the $300/night stay. The pool, gym, sauna, spa, breakfast, parking, even wifi are extra charges if not included in some package.
The pools are not kid friendly, they are essentially for lap swimming alone since they are one depth (1.5m) throughout and just a square in the ground.
The room itself was ok, the bathroom was extremely small and the shower seal leaked, the lighting was a but confusing but the TV and choice of channels was extremely limited. Very difficult to use and unless you bring your own means to watch something your choices are CNN, K Drama, 2 local sport channels, or the hotel network promotions. The location is atop a huge hill so gives the nice view but very tiring to have to get back to if you don’t have a vehicle.
If your stay just consists of sitting in your room for the duration with no interaction to the world or hotel amenities itll be great!
However for a family it is very impractical since there are much better places to stay that are more family welcoming and easier on the wallet (The Ambassador Seoul). And that also dont make up their own currency conversation rate that benefits them when they see it
Would give 0 stars if it was an option

Starting with compliment, this hotel is like 45yrs old but it will never feel outdated in most aspects. The room is small but properly maintained, it is not like U.S hotels where they advertise outdated as "historic". The hotel feels luxurious, and the staffs are friendly and attentive. But the issues starts from the following compliments.
With its history of excellence, the hotel is experiencing trouble with managing crowds. With recent heavy trend of staycation, this large hotel is experiencing a heavy occupancy, being full or near full every weekend. But this hotel is old, and there are some structural issues that shows up. There are only 4 elevators (as I know) that are required to serve 600+ rooms. This makes a total disaster during the stay. It takes forever waiting elevators.
This is not as horrible like NYC, but the rooms are small. As an foreign traveler with bags, it feels like I lack of space. Also, while it is well maintained, there are minor issues that pops out randomly due to its age but not a big issue.
But another disappointment happens at breakfast buffet. There are wide selection of foods but it does not interest me. The quality of food is disappointing thinking of its price (65,000 KRW 52 USD 1250:1 exchange rate). Park Hyatt Seoul, a upper property, have a lower Price (55,000 KRW) but have a much better quality and details. Also, this buffet gets extremely crowded from early mornings. It feels like an airport terminal not a hotel at that moment. And with its over crowding situation, it takes forever to receive requested service.
Basically, the hotel hardware is fine, actually great in U.S standards, but the breakfast buffet needs improvement and.... needs immediate serious response to its occupancy control. People everywhere, loud, and just.. everywhere!

Dear ohohoh0724, First of all, thank you very much for staying at Grand Hyatt Seoul and for taking the time to share your experience with the Tripadvisor community. It was alarming to receive your feedback and I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused by weekend crowds in the hotel and your perception of the food quality/value at breakfast. We do our utmost to offer the best quality food and service in our restaurants and do aim to give our guests a memorable, value-for-money experience so we will take your comments into consideration when we next review our restaurant pricing and menu. Please be assured we are planning forward to ensure guests leave the hotel feeling satisfied with the overall experience and that it offered value for money. As you mentioned Grand Hyatt Seoul is much-loved destination for people who staycation in Seoul. We are aware of the challenges of only having four guest elevators and will take your feedback with seriousness. Despite the challenges of your recent stay, I do hope you may consider returning to the hotel in future to experience the improvements we will have made. Sincerely, Peter Hildebrand General Manager

What an amazing hotel, esp. if you have Globalist benefits. Walking in was truly "grand", with a gorgeous lobby and view of the city. We loved our room on the 18th floor, overlooking the city and Nam San Tower. Breathtaking. And while the room size was "cozy" (typical in Asia), we loved the decor and styling so much. (The only downside to the room was a shortage of shelf space, to lay out clothing.)
If you have Globalist benefits, WOW. The Club Lounge food was the BEST of any Hyatt lounge we've been to. The food at both breakfast and dinner time is a legit buffet, with every dish amazing. (Younger kids, under 13, aren't allowed in at diner time, though.) And ambience is wonderful. Plus, at least when we stayed (in Jun. 2023), Globalists could get free access to the hotel spa/sauna (normally it appears even Globalists pay for access, though at a 50% discounted rate). That was totally unexpected and SOO nice. The spa/sauna is very upscale, for those who know the world of Korea saunas.
You'll note that many reviewers comment on the location as being less than ideal in certain ways. The hotel is way up high on a very steep hill. So though it's only a half mile walk from the nearest subway station, to walk up the hill would be too much for many. (Walking down is a breeze!) But there's a local tram-like bus that will take you up the hill for 1,000 KRW (less than a US dollar). So no biggie at all in the end. (But there are obviously plenty of other hotels that do have more immediate access to the subway, if that's vital for you.) We wouldn't let the location deter us at all from returning unless we REALLY wanted to just have public transit at our literal doorstep. The other positives are so good they outweigh the minor inconvenience. (And we rode taxis a bunch too, which made it a total non-issue.)
We can't wait to come back to Grand Hyatt Seoul!! We were so sad to leave.

Globalist here. Excellent stay at the GH Seoul on the last day of 2019.
It was fully booked and very crowded due to the high demand of spending the last day with family. Nevertheless, all the staff I've encountered managed professionally.
Even tho, the suite was not given, I thankfully got a room on the river view, which I appreciated
The check in process was a bit slow, but we were able to spend some qualitive time in the lounge. Everything else was just above the expecation from the service, quality of food at the lounge and even the swiming pool.
One question tho, I heard from freind of mine (also globalist) that usually there is a complimentary wine + snack. Is this service no longer avaialble??

The check in process was a bit slow, but we were able to spend some qualitive time in the lounge. Everything else was just above the expecation from the service, quality of food at the lounge and even the swiming pool.
One question tho, I heard from freind of mine (also globalist) that usually there is a complimentary wine + snack. Is this service no longer avaialble??
