Our safari took place in June, 2018. I wondered if by writing our review three months later would the ‘glow’ have worn off? But we find we are as thrilled by our adventure now as the day we got back. We stayed at five different...More
So impressed with Gamewatchers and this camp. I can’t believe how perfect everything was. We were picked up promptly at the airstrip and transferred to the camp. There are only 6 camps here and I prefer the intimate surroundings. The tent was clean, comfortable and...More
We only booked 2-nights but we loved it - the previous 3 nights we were in Porini Amboseli but we (just) proffered Mara, for us a more pleasing camp layout & the tents had a decking which gave great animal viewing - we must have...More
What can I say great site, great people and amazing wildlife, the whole Porini experience exceeded anything I had in my head before going to Kenya and I would wholeheartedly recommend this experience to anyone with a love of nature. I never thought I would...More

February is one of the best months in which to visit Kenya in terms of the weather! You should have blue skies and sunshine. But as much of the country is at a high altitude, it can be very chilly at night and in the early morning especially in places over 5,000 ft above sea level. Nairobi is 5,800 ft above sea level, Porini Amboseli is about 4000 ft, Porini Mara and Porini Lion are nearly 5,000 ft while Porini Rhino is at the same altitude as places in the Alps at around 6000 ft and can be very cold at night and on dawn game drives. So it is important to have vests / T-shirts to wear under your tops and to have warm sweaters and a warm fleece or jacket. It's best to have clothes in several layers which you can peel off as the day warms up. At night the camps will put hot water bottles in your bed to make sure you are warm at night.
Wishing you a great safari staying at the Porini Camps!
