Porcini Lion Camp was the absolute best experience of our month long safari. I just did not want to leave. We had the best animal encounters, the most professional service and awesome guides. Thank you William and Phillip, but also Dr James for my nightly...More
We drove over from Porini Mara camp and Patrick, the camp manager, made us very welcome. The tents have the wow factor- spacious, light and we'll equipped. They even provide umbrellas and, in the trucks, heavy duty waterproof ponchos. Tents look out onto plains with...More
With Porini you get the safari you've always read about. An absolutely superb experience, where the focus is on the animals and the Savannah. The staff is incredibly helpful and knowledgeable and do their absolute best to make the most of your stay. You also...More
Whilst this is not a luxury camp in any way, the atmosphere was very friendly and the staff super. Game drives excellent and the conservancy has plenty of wildlife. The drivers alerted each other when they found something of interest but the difference between the...More
Stayed at Porini Lion Camp with my mate in August for 2 nights and it was the best part of the entire trip. Flawless hosts and great service throughout. We had a private tour with Maroonu & Jackson who were awesome and provided us with...More

If you book through Gamewatchers Safaris Ltd, who book the Porini Camps, you will be picked up by their driver at the international airport, taken to your hotel, and then the next morning they will drive you to Wilson Airport, where the small planes take you to camp. We were cared for from our arrival until our departure at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
I do not like really hot weather, so we have gone late June to early July on one trip and in August on another. It is cold when we start in the morning 40's to 50's and probably high 70's to 80's in the afternoon. I think that September and October might be warmer than July and August Our summer is their winter. Winter is cold and dry, Summer is hot and a wetter time of year. I would think more mosquitoes. Winter has the migration, so there are a lot of wildebeest and zebra and therefore easy hunting for predator families.
This camp is in a conservancy on the Masai Mara, but not in the national park. We have never seen more than 3 other vehicles while watching a family of animals. We have gone into the national park to watch the migration on one trip and there were at least 15 cars near us that we could see and about 30 on the other side of the river. You do not have to stay on the roads in the conservancy which means if you see lions 100 yards away, you can drive up as close as 10 or 15 ft to baby lions, depending on the circumstances (guides decision), or follow cheetahs as they hunt down dinner.
I would also recommend the balloon flight unless you are afraid of heights. My husband followed us this last trip and took pictures of our balloon ride.
I hope this helps. Good luck. It is an amazing experience.

Weather was great. No bugs at all. I was actually shocked. Took multiple brands of repellent and never touched any of them. Cool in the AM, but occasionally got very warm in the afternoon, but cool again by Sundowner time.

there are no fences and you would want to be with your children at all times. The night can be magical listening to an elephant pulling branches off a tree nearby, but for a child I cannot imagine how they would react.

"All tents are in great locations...but listen out for the nocturnal non-human neighbours though! ;-)"
