We arrived in Mombasa after having spent three weeks on a road trip from Johannesburg. Our initial intention was to spend one night and head out for Nairobi the following day. This was soon to change as the wonderful atmosphere that the hosts have created made us stay one more night (and we would have stayed longer) we couldn't leave....

This was a horrible experience. The place is completely run down and VERY dirty. It seems it was not cleaned since it became a hostel. The private room was so small that you could only open the door for 20 cm before it hit the bed. The room smelled like urine and the moskito net was too small for the...

Mombasa Backpackers was a lovely place to stay in Mombasa. There were loads of different people coming and going so there was always someone to talk to. Their pool was wonderful after a busy, hot day.

I just left from Mombasa BP this being my 3rd stay there, and once again, what an EPIC week!!! Not sure if I can describe the greatness in one review between the camel rides and kite surfing, to skinny dipping with 3 Dutch girls! I opted for the dorms this time as its a much more social environment, made friends...

The only thing going for this backpackers is the pool and even that is dirty and smelly. It's expensive, no atmosphere at all - the furniture is old and smelly and it could do with some cool paintings on the walls, both in the communal areas and the bedrooms. Staff are completely disinterested. We ordered breakfast and the guy in...

Fantastic location close to the sea, and a fresh pool to use the days you are too tired, good company and servise, fresh bedrooms and bathrooms, good food, maybe a little too good- was not forced to explore other restaurants. I would warmly recommend Mombasa backpackers to comfortable people who want to be close to water and amusement

Was travelling alone and found this to be a great place to stay. it was clean, safe, has great facilities (with TV, Pool, Bar, Lounge.. etc etc) and was really welcoming. Staff are happy to help with anything. Their food was great and so is the location - near the beach and it doesn't cost much to travel into town...

I really enjoyed my stay at Mombasa backpackers. The people there were very welcoming, so really good if you're traveling alone. The location is also really good, only about 15 min by matatu, and in walking distance to the beach. The rooms are clean and very comfortable.
