I just returned from Beijing where I stayed at the Leo Courtyard Hostel. Not to be confused with the Leo Hostel in the same neighborhood. First, you have to realize it is a "hostel." There is no luxury here but the atmosphere and location cannot be beat. Many of the staff speak acceptable English and they go to great lengths...

We had two different experiences in Leo Hostel. One we stayed in private rooms. It is acceptable but pretty expensive (Chinese hotels around are cheaper). In this case bathrooms are private also, which is good. Then the dorms... not so good experience. Their aim is to make money, so there are a lot of people. Our dorm were above the...

I stayed one night on layover from Mongolia on my way to Australia. It is close to Tianamen Square, major public transport routes (train and bus), and is close to shopping. The atmosphere is quite lively and 'young', although the wifi wasn't the fastest. I can only knock two things: 1) the staff never showed me where anything was, just...

Very close to Tianamen Square and public transport stations. Clean rooms and very kind staff. But, the mattress are a little hard ! Anyway, it's cheap and safe, taking into consideration that Beijing can be a very expensive city ! I stayed in a two beds room :)

We had an awesome stay here, it was our first hostel we stayed in when we first reached china and the best so far. The atmosphere is really good, it's like a nice little family. The staff helped us out (big time) we got struck on the Great Wall and if it wasn't for the help from Leo staff members...

Except the location, this hostel has nothing to offer. The room we stayed in was dirty, I had to kill 3 bugs running around the room in the evening, the AC was linked to a water bottle that flooded the room overnight, and the bed was similar to sleeping on the ground. Not an essential, but the wifi wasn't working...

Sincerely sorry to bring you this huge inconvenience. The bugs may came in from the window. We will check whether we close the window next time right after we finish the room cleaning. With respect to the A/c the problem will always be fixed the next day by pofessionals, thus we use that bottle for the water leakage. Really thank...

Leo hostel owns a branch down the street called leo courtyard, fancy staying in a couple hundred year old brothel? Well the courtyard is just that place. Nowadays it's a lovely tea house rather than a brothel with quaint small but clean rooms surrounding the tea room. It's big and open and has a great bar/restaurant and also travel advice.

The best thing about our time in beijing was easily our trip to the great wall with noodles from the hostel. Had the wall pretty much to ourselves and enjoyed a (warm) beer atop the turrets. Great day out.
