After we had stayed at Hotel 88 Mangga Besar 62, we had a chance to stay in their other properties. This time Hotel 88 but located on Mangga Besar 8. It's not located on the main street so it's quieter. Don't worry about the street food vendors, mini marts, coffee shop, there are so many choices around this hotel.

Room here was really nice, slightly bigger than the Hotel 88 Mangga Besar 62. Everything was great. The bed, the air conditioner, the staff were all good. The bathroom slightly smaller but that's not the problem. Sink and toilet were clean, and the shower area was too exposed to the sink and toilet that easily makes your bathroom wet and soaked, but don't worry it usually dried up in an hour.

Cable TV offered a couple of international channels including the movie channel, wifi connection slightly better but still not fast enough, it's still steady tho.

Water dispensers/coolers were also available on every floor so it's all good to us.

The staff at this hotel were excellent. There is wifi in rooms and a room safe. I actually left another hotel because these facilities were absent.

When I got to the room it was warm (hot day, and at mid day). The AC seemed underpowered. Cutting a long story short, it was OK after waiting a hour to get the temperature down. Normally I turn off power when I leave a hotel room. I left it on here and the temperature was just fine.

The room was small (budget hotel). The room fittings were showing wear (cheap). But you have everything you need if all you want is a place to sleep for the night. I checked out next day to go back to the place I came from (across the road) which is like a palace but $7 more / night.

Actually cut short the trip in Jakarta as there was little to do, from a tourist point of view. This hotel was clean and served a good breakfast, it was quite a big buffet breakfast of various foods.

The thing that irritated me beyond belief was the lift music that seemed to be played in the hall area of the rooms. I was awoken at 5:30am by this generic background music that belonged in a lift, playing over and over again!? Why? I have no idea. They normally turned it off at night, but we was situated by a lift and it sounded like a traditional door bell with surround sound speakers, no lift in the world, especially a hotel needs that level of sound to warn you have reached a floor.

As we were the only Caucasians in the hotel, we were stared at during breakfast time, it does sort of put you off your toast when you have some of the guest's gazes locked onto you like you are from a different planet. I'm sure they can now go home and tell their family that aliens do in fact eat toast, sometimes with a topping of nutella.

Location, for me, was not great, seemed to be in the middle of nowhere, taxis always trying to rip you off and the train service, although nearby, was a mixed bag of your destination station was even open!

On a more positive note, staff were friendly and always tried to be of assistance.

First time I knew this hotel located in the middle of a West Jakarta night life, bring me a negative thinking hotel. Once I got there, OMG....this hotel is new, clean, simple budgeted hotel with a very nice local food breakfast, room is clean, towel is tidy rolled, clean n smell good, and the most important was this hotel has a fast enough wifi connection (1x impressed) then the next morning when we're waiting for a cab in the lobby, one of the receptionist staff offered us a coffee or tea for free 24 hours....I started thinking and making a fast calculation on the cost of it, I couldn't believe it this budgeted hotel giving a free coffee or tea to all of their guests, 24 hours for free (2x impressed) after we had two cups of tea we go out from this hotel for business n back to this hotel again almost at 6 pm, get out from the cab, an uniformed security with his smile opening the lobby glass door from inside, we go directly to our room, n a minute after we open our door room, we're more impressed to this hotel, what they did to our bath towel, they rolled the new towel become a kissing dove (3x impressed)... I couldn't believe it, this budgeted hotel giving me such a good impressed...... I really recommend this hotel as a budgeted hotel with 4 star service attitude....very...very...very...good hotel, I will always remember their kissing dove towels.........:)
Once they open their resto and meeting room in the top floor, I guarantee this hotel will always fully book.......

There are 3 Hotel 88 and most of the cabbies do not know which one. So you need to give the right address. I stayed at Mangar besar 120 and it was under construction and no hot water but the bf was really good. Also the rate of 25 usd was good. The location is good. The staff are kind but able to speak little English. TV channels are plenty if you just wan to watch. The room was compact like the redplanet with no fridge but with a safe. It is quite similar to the old tune except with a phone and a good bf. So better than the tune anyway.
