Stayed 3 nights at this lovely heritage colonial hotel just like Raffles Hotel in Singapore. Excellent ambience. Room was excellent. Attentive staff. Breakfast was good with local dishes for your taste buds.Good Location with some restaurants nearby and Malioboro Street is within walking distant.

What an excellent place to stay! We spent three days here, and were very impressed with the quality of service, the rooms, and the ambiance or atmosphere. Right from the smooth check in process (with a welcome drink and local snacks, thanks to an Accor platinum membership) to the polite service at the front desk, the wait staff in the...

The hotel is excellent and gets you emersed in local culture with aristocratic touch. Breakfast is excellent and must not be missed as it's a thorough fare of local delicacies. Take enough time out to Ensure you get to taste the variety of sauces, rice preparations, local health drinks and local cuisines. Breakfast may seem like a lunch but worth...

It is a gorgeous heritage hotel with impeccable service, well located in the city centre, although not within walking distance to Malioboro. ( not that there is much there). The pool is not large n neither are the rooms but everything is comfortable, charming and the staff speak good English. There are some rooms where you might be awoken by...

First of all, the good points: the hotel is decorated with beautiful carved wood and antiques all over the place. The restaurant area is especially lovely and exudes old world charm. The entire place has that heritage feel and for this, I absolutely loved it. Another great thing was the breakfast buffet. A good selection of western items, but what...

I have never been one to review stays, often thinking that a misstep here and there is part and parcel of all business entities. However my stay at The Phoenix Hotel has made me very compelled to review this hotel on my last night here. The good: 1) I paid for 2 nights stay and received the 3rd night free....

A great experience all in all from the welcome with local snacks and drinks, lovely spread at breakfast, comfortable and beautifully designed rooms. Rooms were a little small but served its purpose just fine. Definitely recommended if you want a quality stay in Jogja with good service.

Our room was not large but adequate with exquisite attention to detail. Batik house-coats and slippers, beautiful china tea-service. Lovely pool set in a courtyard. One of the best brunch services I have encountered, including a "health bar" with concoctions purporting to cure various ailments. An egg and omelette station, more fresh fruit than I could identify, and of course...

I would like to stay in this hotel, so heritage and cozy hotel. The pool was good, the room was good enough but not really wide for us. Good location and good services. We will stay in here again when we visit to Yogyakarta again.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
This legenderay hotel was initially built as private estate in 1918. Through the ensuing decades, the property changed hands a number of times, until a Dutch caretaker turned it into Pensioner Hotel. The Phoenix name was deliberately chosen by the last proprietor who hoped that it would remain intact forever, believing in the ancient myth of The Phoenix, the sacred fire bird symbolizing regeneration throughout eternity. The Phoenix Hotel is elegantly situated in down town Yogyakarta, the cradle of Javanese civilization. The legendary Malioboro Street is just nearby, while the world herigate Borobudur and Prambanan temples are only an hour drive. Yogyakarta's cultural heritage and picturesque settings emit a distinctive charm that seldom fails its visitors. The 144 beautifully appointed rooms are reflecting the ambiance of bygone era wrapped in modern comfort facilities, enabling its occupant to celebrate a glorious past without losing the beauty of contemporary living. ... more   less
