I remember being stranded in Singapore because the Malaysian immigration told me I did "overstay" and I had to return to Singapore... The staff at Hotel 81 were great... Angel, Benedict and other front desk people were kind and very thoughtful to the bad way Malaysias immigration treated me.

The hotel has a strange smell when you walk in, like out of date bleach. The hotel and rooms are clean to a degree. However, if you want to sleep or rest this isn't the hotel for you. The rooms are tidy and very basic, with no windows and the walls are so thin you can hear people during the...

We know Singapore is expensive and I was on business trip to Singapore. I could not have thought to take a risk in spending huge in some classy hotel so I booked this hotel. As for me I felt satisfied with whatever the service they rendered to me. It's a budget and good hotel but bit away from main city...

Average hotel, too expensive for such facilities, less cleanliness, there is dead cockroach in the room. Its advantage is close to public transportation access like SMRT Paya lebar station and bus stop.

Basic hotel with bed, bathroom, tv and that's it. Convenient location. Pro's: friendly staff, clean rooms, free water, nearby a lot of cheap food markets (right in front of hotel), shops, taxi stand and 10 minute walk to metro station Paya Lebar. In half an hour you can reach marina bay. Shopping mall is just 10 min walk tops. Cons:...

As a chain hotel in Singapore, 81 had many hotel located in every corner of the city. Classic is located very near with bus station, food court and market. I have pleasant stay at this hotel, old style decoration of the hotel is a plus point.

This hotel is quite close to Paya Lebar MRT,within 10min walking distance. The hotel room aircond can't be switch off, which might caused trouble to people that afraid of cold,& the staffs are also quite rude. They never bother to great u although they are staring at u when u walk in,especially a chubby staff who's wearing specs.Plus the room charges...

Staying in Joo Chiat

Neighbourhood Profile
Joo Chiat
The Joo Chiat area is the traditional home of Peranakan culture in Singapore, an ethnic group descending from the blending of Chinese and Malay families in the 15th century. The neighbourhood is packed with colourful shops, local characters, and quiet charm. The main streets overflow with diners enjoying katong laksa, the signature Peranakan spicy noodle soup. Signs of youthful entrepreneurship are visible as well, with modern cafes, bars, and shops abounding. Visit Joo Chiat to take a break from the big city sights and enjoy a relaxing afternoon with a laid-back and local vibe.
