The building was built in the year 1916 in the colonial times. The Hotel is renovated and looks good and neat. The front desk is very nice and helpful. The surrounding area are with lots of malls, shops and restaurants.

I have stayed at the Santa Grand East Coast 3 times for business this year. The staff are always friendly & helpful, immediately recognising our group as returning guests. The rooms are clean and well maintained, not overly large, but perfectly adequate and good value, remembering that this is a medium priced, older style facility. Great street food all around...

I was there during my Lunar New Year break. Stayed for 3 nights. I was interested in all reviews I read before deciding to book and to stay in. Nice room, comfy and spacious for one or couple. Clean room. I got a view facing to neighbouring area where I could see locals routines, which is good simply because I...

The hotel fits right into its surroundingsIn the heart of Katong which is the lodestone of Peranakan culture. Good location that is near to places such as East Coast beach, the Eurasian Association and Geylang Serai, as well as a hop, skip and jump away from downtown attractions such as the Flyer and Gardens by the Bay.

It's a pretty decent hotel and quite comfy. I enjoyed the surroundings as well, has got a lot of cafes and good food around which makes us spoilt for choice when it comes to our meals. However, the one thing that almost spoiled our mood entirely was having to do a SGD$100 deposit, even though you're a local. As much...

Smallish room but good housekeeping. Room was kept clean and tidy. Location was good with many eateries around. Hotel located in convenient place with bus stop nearby that can take you to Bugis or lavender.

Had a wonderful week long stay at this hotel. The neighbourhood is a unique place with many food and heritage destinations within walking distance. The hotel is small but very comfortable. Rooms are also small but are well laid out and the bedding is comfortable. The buffet breakfast is worth purchasing as a similar meal in neighborhood mall would easily...

We stayed here for 4 nights as a family of 3 and we had a wonderful time exploration the eastern suburb of Singapore. The family room had a little awkward design, but had adequate space for 3 of us. The service staff were accommodating and friendly. Breakfast was served at their restaurant and featured a full buffer spread. The cereal...

Staying in Joo Chiat

Neighbourhood Profile
Joo Chiat
The Joo Chiat area is the traditional home of Peranakan culture in Singapore, an ethnic group descending from the blending of Chinese and Malay families in the 15th century. The neighbourhood is packed with colourful shops, local characters, and quiet charm. The main streets overflow with diners enjoying katong laksa, the signature Peranakan spicy noodle soup. Signs of youthful entrepreneurship are visible as well, with modern cafes, bars, and shops abounding. Visit Joo Chiat to take a break from the big city sights and enjoy a relaxing afternoon with a laid-back and local vibe.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Located in the East Coast area, Santa Grand Hotel East Coast is nestled at the heart of Katong, well known for its Peranakan heritage and culture. The hotel is also within the larger Joo Chiat area, which was designated as the national heritage conservation area by the Singapore Government with the intention of preserving its rich history, culture and architecture. This Peranakan themed boutique hotel aims to introduce Singapore's unique culture and tradition to visitors, just like its predecessors at Santa Grand Hotel Bugis, Santa Grand Hotel Little India and Santa Grand Hotel Chinatown. Santa Grand Hotel East Coast is built on a 2-storey conservation frontage backed by a 5-storey building. Guests will feel welcomed in the lobby, decorated in bright Peranakan colors, that comes with comfortable seating areas and a business center. Rooms come in four different designs, themes and colors that guests will feel the freshness and variety each time they stay with us. A roof top swimming pool and Jacuzzi offer guests a chance to relax in a tranquil environment with a bird's eye view of the low-lying housing architecture symbolic of the Joo Chiat heritage. Bright colors are used on design of the hotel, similar to the patented sophistication seen in the homes of the Peranakans, creating a warm and inviting ambience and leaving guests with fond memories of the stay. Be it for leisure travelers or travelers on business trip, Santa Grand Hotel East Coast is the place you want to stay in to immerse in a uniquely Singapore culture. Take a walk around the area and you will be amazed by the large variety of food to choose from. A definite must-try would have to be the famous Katong laska, well-liked by Singaporeans and visitors alike, this signature dish can be counted as one of the most popular favorites in Singapore! For outdoors, the hotel is near the popular East Coast Parkway where guests can exercise or just relax amidst the cooling breeze along the Singapore coastline. ... more   less
