Nestled in a central location that many guests find convenient for shopping and public transport, the York Hotel Singapore receives appreciation for its proximity to city attractions, although some point out it's not close to everything. While opinions on value are divided—with some praising the affordability and others commenting on the overpriced aspects—staff service is consistently commended for being attentive and efficient. The hotel's atmosphere and amenities are met with mixed reactions, perceived as both elegant and in need of refreshment. Cleanliness is a highlight, yet some rooms are noted to require updates and maintenance.

After a failed attempt at a staycation at another hotel, we changed to York Hotel with specific requirements of breakfast and better room sizes.
Unexceptional to view on arrival, the foyer is however quite lovely.
They did not disappoint with exceptionally large, well appointed rooms. The bathroom was however, very small which was a shame. Some pictures on other reviews appear to be of updated suites. Given there was next to no one in the hotel, it would have been nice to be given one of these rooms.
Location is excellent and a huge plus us the hotel is very quiet. There is virtually no sound transfer whatsoever which was fantastic.
The rooms and common areas do smell very damp. There is an immediate need to update certain aspects with deterioration and age evident in the suites. A larger TV for the space is needed given the room is quite large. Cleaning under the beds and window sills is needed and probably best to remove evidence of prior guests smoking from the bathroom before the next guest arrived.
Check in was friendly and efficient. Staff were mostly pleasant but we did have a weird conversation with a front desk manager on our return one afternoon when when we were asked why we were knocking on the door of the room next door (we didn't). Not sure what the issue was - perhaps a clearer conversation on this would have helped!
Breakfast was tasty and plentiful but very meaty. The menu form is not clear that even the bread comes with a meat curry. We ordered two eggs but ended up with two plates each of two eggs, sausages, bacon, beans and potatoes. Given we are vegetarian this could have been highlighted on the menu. The only compliant was the cheese was very chemically tasting and was a cheese plate of four cuts of the same cheese.
Worth it for the room size, peace and location.

Dear Guest, Thank you for your visit to York Hotel Singapore and sharing such a positive review about your recent stay with us. Delighting our guests with exceptional service, comfort and value is central to the York Hotel experience. We are glad to have achieved those ends during your stay. Your feedback on the eggs and cheese from our breakfast menu are well-noted. We are always looking to improve our current breakfast offering and your feedback for improvement is incredibly valuable to that end. At the same time, we regret that other aspect of your stay fell short your expectations, particularly the cleanliness of the guest rooms and common area. I have shared your feedback with the respective department heads for rectification. Thank you once again for your patronage and we hope for an opportunity to have you return soon for a more enjoyable stay. Best regards, Jessie Tan General Manager

I highly recommend this hotel for all its superb services and staff. The location greatly reduced my travel time as well as for my medical appointment it was only a 2 min walk to Mt. Elizabeth and Paragon medical center. Keep up the good work!

Our family of five had a pleasant stay at the York, from 26th December 2022 to 1st January 2023. In addition to its central location, we found the hotel staff to be courteous and helpful, often going out of their way to make our stay comfortable. The spotlessly clean rooms, although spacious and well-appointed, were looking somewhat dated and tired.
For those booking standard rooms, especially if they are to be occupied by seniors who may have limited agility, there are no shower cubicles in the bathrooms. Instead, they have bathtubs. The Deluxe room we upgraded to, at an extra charge, offered a shower cubicle in addition to the bathtub. The fitness center and swimming pool were adequate and breakfasts at the White Rose offered variety and a good start to each day!

Pros: Room is spacious considering the hotel's price point and location, thus this is good value for money. Slightly dated feel on the whole (quite nostalgic actually), but there are evident efforts to update wear and tear (new cabinets, USB charging sockets, etc). Generally clean and comfortable, the staff are pleasant/competent. Apparently, every room has a bathtub. Room has large, wide windows, offering ample natural light, and full blackout curtains if darkness is preferred. Not sure if I imagined it, but the kettle seem to boil water faster than other hotels' kettles. Frontdesk staff was quite adamant about not issuing two key cards to a solo occupant, but I suppose that's a sign that they are mindful about security/safety distancing regulations on visitorship.

Cons: Inexplicably, I found the access panel in the ceiling of my bathroom left open. The light bulb of the floor lamp is rather glaring, I have to drape something over it. The spotlight above my bed flickered sporadically. The size of the tea cups are too dainty for my liking. Sadly, the fairly new cabinets in my room were vandalized by a kid's doodle. Walls are a bit thin, I vaguely heard people talking outside at the corridor and doors of other rooms closing, hence I was feeling self conscious if my TV volume might be too loud.

Location is fairly accessible while feeling like it's a peaceful hideout from the buzz of Orchard Road, but some people may dislike the 3-5 min up-slope walk from Far East Plaza.
The air conditioning is too powerful (regardless of how I adjusted the setting), but some people prefer strong AC. Good thing that the room does not get stuffy when I switch off the AC.

We booked a family room for 4 pax via Trip.com and it entitles us to late check out till 3pm with buffet breakfast. York Hotel is the only few hotel that offers family room at an affordable rate.

The hotel is located behind Mount Elizabeth Hospital (Orchard) & is not very near to the main road. However, the amazing staffs here totally made up for it with their exceptional services.

Special mention to Nenny from front desk, Ramli from White Rose cafe & Nudin from front door for their exceptional services & for being so extremely

Our family room is located at high floor & is very spacious. Bathroom is very clean as well.

White Rose cafe breakfast buffet is value for money! Porridge & the egg breakfast set is a must order!

While searching for a reasonably priced, centrally located hotel that would accomodate four adults in one room, I stumbled across "The York Hotel". The hotel sits gently behind the Far East Plaza in Scotts Road and the location is stunning. Its nestled in a quiet area but is a few minutes walk to Orchard and Scotts Road which makes it appealing.
I was also lured by the reviews from previous guests which commented on the clean and spacious rooms and the expectations were not only met, but exceeded. Our room with two double beds was enormous with a functional desk, a walk in robe and dual vanity in the bathroom. Importantly the shower was excellent with a powerful shower head and easy temperature control.
What also made the stay outstanding was the sheer comfort of the beds with their crisp linen and supportive pillows. All family members stated that this was the most comfortable beds we had ever experienced on our travels and we all had a great night sleep.
The staff were responsive and in particular the cleaning lady so warm and eager to attend to our needs.
The front desk allowed a late check out to be extended for a small fee so that we could have a day stay before our late flight in the evening. It just made everything so easy!
We all loved "The York Hotel" and the tariff per night was incredibly inexpensive for the location and the size of the room. It definitely met our needs in Singapore and we will return for another trip to "The York".

Overall good, building looks old and rundown, perhaps a re-painting of exterior would draw more visitors. Food is ok, can have local distinction food or flavors into menu. Asked for a baby cot and was delivered on time, sanitized and baby had a good sleep with no discomfort. Good service.

Very disappointing and unimpressive as first trip to Singapore. Front desk receptionist did not explain how to use the key cards for lifts and bedroom lightings. Had to ask customer who happened to use the lift how to operate the lifts and another how to operate the lightings. In total took 1/2 hour to get into the room.

We stayed 16 nights at the York Hotel and had a great time there. We had a very spacious double room on the 6th floor with large windows where we could watch all the comings and goings.

Our room was cleaned everyday and we received regular top ups of tea, coffee and bottled water, having a fridge was really useful and the air conditioner was well used! Our room attendant was friendly and nothing was too much trouble.

The pools are great, just the right size and not too deep so ideal for my 9 year old. It wasn't busy when we were there and stays open till late in the evening with a plentiful supply of towels. Food prices in restaurants in Singapore are really expensive and the hotel is no exception but we did have the breakfast buffet once, it was pretty good and there was a wide range of items available. The rest of the time we had breakfast in our room, there are a number of bakeries nearby.

The hotel is 5 minutes from Orchard Road, very close to Scotts Road and several shopping malls. There are 2 ways to go down to Orchard, either past the Goodwood hotel or out of the back door, past the hospital and through Paragon Mall.

I think the York Hotel is very worthy of consideration for several reasons, reasonable price for Singapore, great location, quiet area, nice pool, spacious, comfortable rooms and friendly and polite staff. I'd definitely stay there again.

Thanks for making our stay in Singapore so pleasant!

The foyer, restaurant and possibly the 'premium' areas are of a very good standard. However, the 'ordinary' rooms desperately need upgrading. Our room was as clean as it could be, but with old bathroom tiles on the wall and floors and only a tiny steam vent, mould has ingrained itself in edges and corners and on the ceiling. The bathroom amenities provided were good. The bedroom itself was clean but the carpet was very worn with a hole in at least one place. The headboard afixed to the wall rattled when I turned over. The aspect ratio on the TV probably needs adjusting because if the programme had subtitles, only the top half of the words could be seen. I appreciated the free large bottle of water supplied each day. The worst thing for me was the fact that the hotel is on a long, gentle hill, which is not mentioned in any of their advertising. I had to get a taxi up the hill every day as the heat and my slight disability made it impossible to return on foot each day. Just as well the taxis were cheap - $4 to get from the medical centre at the bottom of the hill up to the hotel.
The staff were friendly and polite but queues at check-in/check-out can form at peak times with only 2 on duty even though there are 4 'stations'.

Frankly, the Kitchen is Not Halal certified. But you can have your breakfast of Bread & Butter, Cereals, Coffee or Tea, boiled or half-boiled eggs, fruits, fresh juices. These are usually not prepare with Non Halal foods. There other alternatives is you can take a 4 minutes walk to Far East Plaza, where there are many shops which are Halal Certified you can have your breakfast, such as Perata, Nasi Lemak etc..

I seem to recall they do have balconies but we couldn’t access it from our room. Not sure why you’d want one because there’s no real view and the weather can be oppressive.
