First of all - DON't stay in the completely overrated Mariscal unless you're the type of person who travels around the world and then goes for a drink at an Irish pub. Second of all - Quito's old town is safe, interesting, historical, very charming, lively, full of stories and has the Hostal Quito Cultural. Third of all - Hostal...

We had a great stay at Hostal Quito Cultural. An amazing location in Quito´s Old Town (on the corner of Flores and Chile) and just 15 mins taxi ride to the more lively Mariscal area of town. The owners were really friendly and helpful - from advice on what to do in Quito to helping us plan our onward adventures...

My husband described it this way. I was a little wary of staying at a "hostel", but this really was great. The inn is so adorable. I like to stay "with' the people when we travel, and get to know nationals, and this was a perfect place. The building has a main courtyard so all the rooms have outside doors....

We stayed here on three occasions in May 2011 during our month in Ecuador. While the rooms were spacious and clean, the service was simply outstanding. It was above and beyond anything we expected. Mateus, who speaks excellent English negotiated cheap car hire for us, Galapagos tickets, mobile internet access for the whole of Ecuador and even bought us a...

We poked our heads into this hostal looking for a new place in Quito and Alicia, the owner, was immediately personable and welcoming. We ended up staying here three different times, in three different rooms. The rooms were simple but colorful and clean (some louder than others in the afternoon, but nothing too bad), and the location was great. A...

Exceptional value given the position within 2 blocks of the main square. Being right in the middle of everything does mean that rooms on the main street are quite noisy which would be a problem for light sleepers, but they do have side rooms which should be much quieter. Internally there is little or no disturbance from other guests as...

I was a little unsure about staying in old town but this turned out to be a great location. This hotel is in the middle of everything, with a pedestrian only street leading directly to the Plaza Grande. We walked easily to the Voto Basilica to climb the clock towers. We spent a few days wandering around old town, even...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Hostal Quito Cultural born of a XVIII century building at the hands of a French architect, this house currently consists as a heritage of Barrio San Marcos the oldest in Quito. With a rich pre-Columbian history, the capital of Ecuador was founded on the ruins of an Inca city, but offers everything a modern traveler may need. Still one of the best preserved historical sites in Latin America and the UNESCO declared world heritage. The location of the hostel is convenient because it allows travelers to move around the old Quito and know all the baroque jewels, like the monasteries of San Francisco and Santo Domingo, as well as the church and the college of the Company. The hostel rooms have all the amenities to make guests feel comfortable and can enjoy their holiday as they deserve, our main seal of the fraternity is offered by our staff. ... more   less
