A great hotel in a former monastery in the very heart of Cusco. Beautiful comfortable rooms, great art, great staff and great breakfast. Depending on the season, breakfast in the courtyard would be great.
Thank you the gardens were amazingly beautiful and love how the hotel was so close to the Town square. Very quiet. Very comfortable environment. If I would ever travel to Peru again this would be a very nice hotel to select
As a lover and owner of historic properties, I had to stay here the three nights we were in Cusco. Not only is it beautiful, but the location was perfect for walking to the square, shops, and restaurants. We even felt safe walking around at night! Breakfast in the morning is delicious, varied, and ample! I loved that there was a convenient postal drop basket in the gift shop to mail postcards back to the States. The service from beginning to end is top notch.
Like I said, checking-in and you immediately know your Peruvian dreams have come to life, and with bated-breath you can't wait to see everything, I arrived early and while waiting for suite, I started with the stunning bar. Side note, Cusco is one of the highest altitude cities in Peru, if not the highest, and your body and lungs will tell you to slow down your pace and take it easy on the adult beverages! Find Cocoa leaves and tea. When entering my suite, there was a hallway that led into the living room with its gorgeous fabrics, coffered vaulted crisp white ceiling, freshly polished tile floors, rugs etc... I couldn't help getting a little sad that eventually I will have to check out. My first nite I dined in the hotel at a perfectly situated table within the glass enclosed grand hall, where I was the only guest at first, then others flowed in, mostly couples and foursomes, and all like myself, dressed-up and ready to enjoy our five star dining experience. After dinner the weather was gorgeous and sky packed full of stars, so I took a stroll around the gardens, then outside the hotel to see what Cusco nightlife looked like... but nearing 10PM and my body feeling as though I turned 103 somewhere between the Amuse-bouche and after dinner decaf coffee and chocolates, I decided to go back to my room were I found a lovely turn-down, soft music and dimmed lights, sorry I don't remember anything after that, I was out like a light, but I was bummed I brought a small suite case and wasn't able to pack those sheets... like robes, towels, nicknacks and artworks they come with a two nite stay... right? :-) There is quite a bit to do in and around Cusco daytime, oh so many crazy good restaurants that on day two, I believe I ate more then I saw... gulp, gulp yummy. I hired a private guide for this day and we went everywhere it seemed, and I thoroughly enjoyed my every second, I'll add a few photos. On my second and last night, I wanted something hip, vibrant and Peruvian, and holy-moly did I find it in a restaurant and bar named Republica del Pisco! From its center square bar, eclectic decor, over the top friendly staff and magical Mojito's, I was in hog heaven, but nothing can compare in this place to the food, shut-the-front-door, every bite left me wanting more and more and more. The restaurant is super casual and comfortable with great music and located a short walk from the Monasterio. My opinion, stay here, eat here, drink here spa here, relax and read a book here and make this five star hotel your home base for seeing Cusco. Again, ask for Cocoa Leaves and tea's to help with altitude sickness, and make sure your room is getting oxygen pumped in. Enjoy.…
There are some good things about this hotel. It's set in a beautiful building in a great part of town. The breakfast is excellent. The rooms are quite comfortable if small. Other than that I found little to enjoy here. The hotel is dominated by the arrival, handling and departure of tour groups. There are large loads of luggage left all over the hotel. Groups are checking in and out at all times. Staff service these groups as a priority, with their loud radios throwing out instructions at all times. There's no peace and quiet. The bar could be great but in December was very cold, in many ways. I was really disappointed by this hotel, not what I expected from the Belmond chain at all. If you like travelling independently, to hotels with some degree of calm, I suggest you avoid this place. There are better choices in Cusco.…
