European grace in a very inexpensive hotel. The rooms aren't fancy, but they were clean and comfortable. Most importantly the staff was always friendly and helpful. The location was wonderful, made Montevideo a memorable side trip.

I first became aware of Hotel Palacio about ten years ago after a chance conversation with someone who was staying there. This was my third revisit to Montevideo and having booked many months in advance, I managed to get a room. More bijou than palacial, this little gem was worth the wait. At first glance it looks as though it... More

I absolutely loved the building this hotel was located in, it is old and full of character. The owner was very friendly and helpful, and gave me some pointers about getting around Montevideo. It is very quiet but close to the river and within reasonable distance of some of the other city attractions.

I stayed for three nights in this beautiful hotel which is full of character. It is excellent value for money and has everything you need. The staff were so very kind and helpful in a very genuine way. This hotel is so typical of the real character of Montevideo. A little bit on the tired colonial side but full of... More

We love this hotel. It was centrally located and everything is within walking distance. The room we had was small but cozy (I could not even open my cabin size suitcase on the floor). However, the bathroom was spacious! and we had a balcony too!(if only the weather permits to hang out at the balcony!) The service was great although... More

Hotel Palacio is well situated in the old town of Montevideo, in good reach of the river shore and key attractions in the area such as Independence Square. The rooms were comfortable if not basic, and the host and hostess were friendly, even if their English was not great (or existent with some of the staff). On arrival we were... More

Love this hotel. Great experience. As written before, it's old, but in a good way. This is a family owned and operated hotel. The building is art deco and very atmospheric. Despite its age, it is well maintained and an amazing value (US$40 per night!). The historic elevator (but state of the art mechanics inside) is a gem. All rooms... More

We had a great stay in this hotel. The staff are all friendly, and the manager Fernando is especially helpful. The location is handy for the old town and new and if you like old fashioned lifts, this is a classic..
