This is an old hotel with great character and atmosphere. In the centre of Antigua, it is an ideal base to experience the town. The rooms have lots of character and the food is very good. On the evening we were there there was also entertainment in the restaurant. However the WiFi was poor. This hotel is highly recommended due to its history and setting

I stayed here 5 nights. Rooms in this hotel are very different depending on their location in the hotel. The first 2 nights I stayed in two different rooms in the same area where there is a smaller courtyard. These rooms were dark, moisty, and smelly. Beds were hard like a rock. I was also itchy and then I noticed there were small red ants in the room. I could not sleep at night. Wi-Fi connection in these rooms was poor. Per my request, they moved me to a room that was located in the courtyard located just when you enter the hotel. That room was larger and brighter, as it had two windows. It was not as moisty. However, bed in this room was still as hard as in other rooms. Also, walls were very thin, and I could hear all the noises coming from the neighboring room. This hotel has a good location. However, I stayed in much better hotels in Antigua that also have a great location. I recommend not to pay the rate that includes breakfast. The price difference is significant. They don’t explain it to you but... If breakfast is included in your rate, then you have only about 7 different choices on menus that are not good and not worth what you pay. These choices do not include bacon or sausage. If you want a slice of bacon or a piece of sausage, you will be asked to pay extra. The breakfast that I order was not tasty. It included scrambled eggs, piece of bread, and a small cup of weak coffee. There was only space left for me to sit inside the restaurant The tables outside were occupied. The restaurant was dark, moisty, messy, and unappealing. Immediately I asked to switch to charge me a rate that do not include breakfast. The difference was about $20 per night. You will be able to get a great breakfast for less in restaurants located close to the hotel. You will even have a choice to try different restaurants each day of your stay. To summarize, I do not recommend staying here. You can find way better and less expensive hotels in Antigua. Most rooms in this hotel are dark, moisty, and smelly. Some rooms have small red ants and you’ll be itchy. Wi-Fi connection can be very poor inside the rooms. Beds are hard as a rock; you will not be able to sleep. Rooms have thin walls and you’ll be able to hear guests in the neighboring rooms. Breakfast included in the room rate is poor and overpriced. You can find better hotels with great location in Antigua.

BUGS!!!!! I was itching for first two nights but could not see anything around the bed or the room. Noon of the second day I actually found very small red ants in the bathroom as well as in the bed. I complained to the reception and requested to speak to the manager. Their English was pretty bad and unfortunately they were completely powerless and could not even contact or find the manager on duty. I could not speak to a person of authority till my departure next morning at 6:45am. They said they would move my room and not to worry that they would be get all bugs killed. I had to get all my clothes washed at an outside facility; returned to the new room at night and same thing; more bugs bit me that night. I requested an apology and a refund next morning, neither of which they provided, and I saw an exterminator enter the hotel around 6:30am, 18 hours after the incident was reported. It took their manager Rogelio Jolom to get back to me two weeks and several emails. She simply said apologies but they were not responsible for any of this since they changed my room the last night of my stay!!!!! I am very saddened this ruined my great trip to beautiful Guatemala. More than anything lack of customer focus and non responsiveness is the issue. I will continue seeking a refund.

I booked a table a few days in advance in the restaurant for our last evening in Guatemala. I had the lovely surprise to have a central table for 2 near the musicians! There were two large groups of tourists and a few individual tables in a large, traditionally decorated restaurant hall. The music was lovely, and the 8 dancers professional, with eleborate masks and costumes, performing a few local dances. The dances should have been explained and presented to appreciate fully the experience. The food was pretty tasteless and expensive, but the service swift and friendly.

We really liked this hotel. It's ideally located for exploring Antigua, right next to the famous arch. Beautiful old building. Rooms are set around courtyards filled with gardens. One thing to beware is to ask for an inside room. Some on the outside back onto busy cobbled streets and have noise 24 hours. We were allocated 107 which is one of those. They quickly and helpfully moved us to a quieter room. Live music at breakfast was an unexpected treat. The breakfast tortillas are a must.

We found Don Rodrigo to be a large, old, but lovely hotel established in a colonial compound in the heart of old-town Antigua. Don Rodrigo’s gardens and grounds are beautiful and its staff gracious and accommodating. A few points: I selected Don Rodrigo because of its prime location and the 60%+ room discount for our stay. The list price posted at reception for that room is $240, which would not be worth it for us. [We paid $105 before taxes, etc.] All four of us stayed in room 305, which we’d recommend given the balcony seating/tables right outside the room that overlook the courtyard. Don Rodrigo’s website promises Wifi, If that's important to you, know that Wifi reception is only available in the courtyard, not rooms. Directly across the street is a brewery, Antigua Cerveza, which will allow you to buy pints to drink in the (less crowded) hotel courtyard/your room as long as you return the glass. The restaurant, which has decent, if not unremarkable food, is overpriced. However, its location in town makes this hotel one to consider if you can get a discount.

My family has stayed at this beautiful hotel multiplie times, the most recent visit was almost 3 weeks while setting up a home they just had built. Everyone LOVES staying at this hotel! The staff is so welcoming. They remember you every time you go back, are so very friendly, helpful, and do what they can to make your visit as pleasant as possible. The rooms are very well kept. Rogelia (she is the manager)is amazing and will go above and beyond. It's a lovely hotel and the grounds are immaculate, lush, and a beautiful sight every morning when you come out of your room. The fountains are relaxing, and they have the cutest turtles in the garden. There are stunning views from the upstairs terrace of all 3 volcanos. The food is delicious, service is fantastic and everyone treats you like family. They happily made oatmeal for my mom every night to have in her room in case she had a hypoglycemic episode. 2 meals a day are included with each night at the hotel, which is a nice bonus. They will even set up a table outside your room if you're looking for something a little more intimate. They even have Marimba players every day in the dining room for a taste of local music! The location is perfect for wandering around Antigua, a vibrant colonial city, during the day. It's a beautiful city! They have their own taxi drivers that they will call for you if you want to go on an adventure. You can have the taxi driver for the day if you like, which is great if you want to stop in different areas throughout the day and not have to worry about getting a taxi back. Even though they now have their own home in Antigua, my mom says she plans on staying at the hotel a few days each visit because she would miss all the people and enjoys the pampering! Stay at this hotel! You won't regret it, as a matter of fact, you won't want to leave!

Volcano view, beautiful interior. But terrible cousine. It looked like seabass had spent 10 years in the freezer. And bread was baked last week. But prices are high and tip is included in advance. Wasted money.
