We booked two guests into Casa San Lazaro based on previous Trip Advisor reviews, which appear to have not been accurate. Here is the review from one of our guests: GOOD STUFF: + Everyone there was nice and friendly + One night I asked if we could buy a soft drink of any kind. 'No' but the guy was willing to go to a store and get us something. + Substantial breakfast every day with either scrambled eggs or pancakes + Casa Lazaro's private airport shuttle (additional charge) between Guatemala City airport and Antigua was great. Same guy both ways. Good driver, efficient, clean car, courteous, on time. + Hotel staff was prompt to reply to email inquiries before our arrival NOT SO GOOD STUFF: - The hotel seemed to be partially closed and under construction and was not user friendly. At times we were the only guests. - We had requested a room at the back but we were assigned a room upstairs right above the noisy cobblestone highway. We had to have the windows open for some air to cool our room which meant tolerating the noise and fumes of nonstop traffic. - On two evenings I had to call for someone to work on the toilet to get it to flush. Yes, we followed the rules and did not put tissue in the toilet. - The basin water was barely a trickle. - Whenever we left, we surrendered our key and the door was locked behind us. We had to use the knocker on returning for someone to let us in. One night no one came - we knocked and knocked. Eventually a guy arrived from the street - he apologized, saying that he had to get tortillas. - We had to ask for drinking water. - One evening we arrived at our room and there was a very strong smell of varnish - the floor of the room next to ours was wet with varnish. The odor eventually dissipated.…
Had a very happy stay here. The service was excellent, quality room and very secure. They made our trip very memorable! Brought fresh water every day, packed our breakfast when we went on tour, changed our booking when we made a mistake free of charge and organised our laundry. Will stay here again next time.
This hotel was very nice. We had breakfast (included) every morning by the pool. Each day we ordered something different, so it was really great. The portions were big and lots of variety. The service was great, and the main manager was really accommodating. At first we were put in a room that had a cute little balcony. But we’d read reviews that the barking dogs and traffic sounds were pretty loud, so we asked for something not facing the street. We ended up in an interior facing room. It faced the inside ‘courtyard’, so it was REALLY quiet. And because it didn’t have a balcony, it had a ceiling fan and air conditioner. SCORE!! No view, but that’s fine. We had good sleeps. The water pressure was...well, not great in the bathroom sink, but the shower was fine. And they happily supplied filtered water whenever we asked. It is very clean and well-taken care of. It is also very secure (locked door that they open and close each time you come and go). It is a bit of a walk from the town centre, but not bad. Only about 10 minutes or so. This was recommended by friends of ours, and we'd definitely stay here again.…
Hotel Casa San Lazaro exceeded my expectations! Our family of five stayed in the Villa for six nights and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Staff were incredibly friendly and showed us their warm hospitality every day. The hotel is beautifully decorated, clean, safe, and located a short walk to central park with all of the shops and restaurants. Breakfast (included in room rate) was delicious and they served us poolside at an umbrella table each morning.
I visited with friends for a weekend. Is a beautiful hotel. They take care of every detail and you can notice since the first moment you enter the place. They have breakfast included which is very convenient and those days it was delicious. The outdoor area by the pool is great to enjoy a glass of wine with a great talk (Which we did). A very nice place that I'd visit again absolutely 100%. I highly recommended.
Hotel Casa San Lazaro is probably one of the most detail enriched hotels I have ever visited, spaces are colorful, pool is very pretty and relaxing. Breakfast here is AMAZING, best tamales I ever had! Michelle from reception is helpful, friendly and has a permanent smile! I'll definitely stay here again.
We booked it because we wanted to enjoy the pool. Unfortunately it was cold and there was only 2 long chairs around the pool. If the suite was nice with a massive bathroom and jaccuzi, it was really noisy. You can hear the noise of the streets and the morning there was a group of 5 people really noisy during the breakfast. The breakfast was included but not good at all: bad orange juice and just an omelet with fruits. The localisation is also pretty bad: far from the center and close to the exit road of the street so it was really polluted. For 145€ a night I do not recommend this place
We had a group of 9 people (family/friends) from NY stay in the 'guest house' at Hotel San Lazaro. The staff were very accommodating, with late check-ins (2am), early morning breakfasts (6:30am), and help throughout the week. The hotel is beautifully kept, rooms very clean. Would definitely recommend San Lazaro to others, and would use them again.
During our time in Antigua, we stayed at three different hotels. Casa San Lazaro was one of the three where we stayed. Rooms here are nicely appointed and building is lovely but our room #1 was loud whether it was street noise ( the hotel is located on a main road), the gate opening to the hotel, the knocker on the door to the hotel or other rooms (walls seem very thin). Also, the hotel advertises a hot tub. Maybe we missed it but did not see a hot tub. There was a small pool. Hotel did not have fans and there was no a/c in the room. It was not possible to open the doors to the deck to let the fresh air in since there were so many mosquitos. (Both of the other hotels we stayed in Antigua had fans.). In our opinion, location is not desirable as it is a bit of the walk to the center and streets near the hotel are not busy. We were advised not to walk after 8 pm but rather take taxis or tut tuts. Then when we asked for a tut tut, we were advised we needed to walk a bit to get one. Service at the hotel was mixed.…
What a beautiful friendly place to stay! The hotel was renovated recently and is in excellent condition with clean well appointed rooms and quality linens. The common areas are pleasant and tastefully decorated both inside and out. We both had the BEST massage at the on-premises spa with a refreshing smoothie after. The cooked-to-order breakfasts were tasty and perfectly sized, eaten on the veranda with great service. The friendly and helpful staff speak limited English but aim to please in every way. The location is a pleasant 15 min. walk to the town square.
