Enjoy your stay in Antigua!
I wish I stayed here for more than just one night but thoroughly enjoyed the grounds and stay. My room had a wonderful view of this jungle oasis located right in the middle of the courtyard. Breakfast was included and it was delicious. I highly recommend reserving a tepee and enjoying breakfast, lunch or dinner right in this oasis. I reserved a teepee and enjoyed a private dinner. It was an unforgettable experience.
great place, the location is perfect, the staff very friendly also great internet connection, and the hotel have beautiful gardens, the room is spacious, the only thing is the bathroom needs some painting this due the humidity, but in general great place.
Arrived about two hours before check-in (1 vs 3) and requested permission to access room, "No". That's ok, not unusual, but it doesn't hurt to try. A glitch in the booking meant we booked 2 rooms for 3 nights. An email had been sent in advance to the OBA. Discussed the issue of departing day early. "No, cannot change". Refused to contact the OBA, refused to edit the payment due at check-in. They know we are leaving early, and can easily open the rooms. They allowed us to park the car. Went away, returned 2:40. One room ready, one not. We gave two credit cards signed two payments for two rooms. Got one key. Went for beers in cafe. At 3:15 given key to second room. Upon entry, a hotel staff is just leaving, having "decorated" the room with Rose petals... One of the single beds has a big red heart, the floor covered with petals and candles--lovely, if you aren't an owner of a travel agency traveling with a new colleague. And you've been waiting 40 minutes to check into the room. We all laugh it off, get funny (if not weird) pictures, and assume it was an effort from the hotel to make nice for error with booking, for delaying the availability of the room, maybe even as a courtesy to a guest who has stayed several times before, sent dozens of guests to their hotel, and is now introducing the hotel to two new colleagues. Then when we return from dinner, a snide comment from the woman at the front desk that it was not intended for us. The remark was better left unsaid and let us believe they made an attempt, rather than confirm they gave us the wrong room, and someone else paid for something they did not get. It does explain the multiple staff outside the room on walkie talkies, though. With a fresh day, and good hopes to reconcile the assorted issues. I approach the front desk. I explain we will leave early, desire refund, she says "No." I explain the second issue of the delay, she explains AGAIN about the cancellation policy. I try to explain, I'm talking about something else. Clearly, my limited Spanish and her limited English is causing confusion. Like a broken record, "No refund". I ask if she's aware what the evening clerk had said to us, She says no. I suggest she might look into it. That evening, the manager approached us and stated he would be offering a refund for the early departure, to expect the credit in 20 days on our credit cards. Plural. Upon returning from dinner, a new desk agent took out a book and asked for our personal information... names, addresses, credit card, passport and more. Neither of us had our passports, but i had mine memorized, my colleague did not. He said he needed photos (all this was provided at check-in). The next morning, we stop at desk to check-out, and to provide passport info. They can't find the book we had written in the night before. Then, they pull out the files for the room (hard copies) and we learn that both rooms were charged to same credit card. AND that the charge had been made 2 days before we actually arrived. There is no indication what they did with the second credit card that was run, no paper copy, though my colleague remembered signing it at check in. It's like the hotel is run by amateurs who invent a new system every shift. On another note, about the hotel property itself. Pretty grounds, Enjoyed the gardens. Young man cleaning the leaves of a potted plant took 45 minutes to do so right outside my room window. Trying to get fresh air with window open, I know it was 45 minutes because that's how long I had to take a nap and get ready to go back out. He was there visible to me/and I visible to him, the whole time. Cleanest damn plant ever. The sink in room wouldn't drain. The plug has no lever, plunge your hand into the toothpaste water to pry the plug with your fingers. Reported and repaired The toilet runs constantly, had to turn the valve on/off each time I used it. The Pull chain sticks to the bobber. Reported and repaired. The TV plays one channel. That might be why the plant is so clean, there was a great movie on TNT that i had turned on just to keep from falling too deep asleep. Tower fan emits a high pitched hum when running. Infiltrated my dreams each night that I was flying... but going nowhere. What frequent traveler doesn't love that?!!…
Good convenient location, spacious rooms, beautiful garden. Friendly and attentive staff, responded promptly to requests. Breakfast was included, the food was good and fresh. A very safe hotel for a solo traveler. I would definitely recommend staying there.
First of all, I'm leaving 4 stars, but it's really a 3 star review because an issue I had won't affect more than 95% of people reading this (scroll to the last paragraph to find out). Also, the hotel is really nice so I don't want to bash it. And, of course, I rate businesses in context (price, value, expectations, region, etc.). I stayed here for 5 nights -- the longest I've ever stayed in Antigua. I chose this hotel because of a few reasons, but most importantly 1. the reviews on this website 2. free parking. The hotel itself is beautiful. The window in our room, which opens widely and without any screens, looks out into what looks like a jungle! Picture the opening scene in the movie Apocalypto and you'll get the idea. It was very impressive. I had to work remotely for the first few days, and this was an absolutely perfect location to do so. It was extremely quiet (we were in room #216 at the very end so there was no one walking by). Also, the wifi was fine (that was a big concern before I booked). No issues working for 8+ hours a day, plus we did the online monitored Covid tests as well. The location is pretty good -- it's an extra few blocks, I'd say, from the start of the places you'd want to go (if you're walking down 5th street) but well worth it if you're concerned about street noise or safety or something. I wasn't, but I also didn't mind walking the extra blocks. The last restaurant before you reach the hotel's street is Ni Fu Ni Fi (that helped me remember where we were going). But long story short, it's within walking distance of pretty much everywhere you want to go. (and within a 10-minute walk are little stores that sell snacks, bottled water, liquor, etc., bars, ATMs, good restaurants, local handicraft stores, etc.). Our rate included breakfast and, awkwardly, we ordered it through room service every single morning because we had some late nights. There was a surcharge, but it was very reasonable. The food was absolutely delicious. I seriously miss it even though I've only been home a day. And the service was extremely polite, and we never waited more than 20 minutes. Now for the "issue": Parking. As mentioned, one of the major reasons I booked this hotel was because of the free parking. My girlfriend is from here and was anticipating some family and friends visiting. After landing in Guatemala City, her brother picked us up and drove us to the hotel. We were exhausted from the red eye from LAX. Upon arrival to the hotel's parking lot we were met with a large wooden door that looked like something out of Robin Hood. We pulled in as much as we could but we were completely blocking the street from both sides. Her brother got out of the car, went up to the speaker and explained he was dropping us off and was going to park but the receptionist wasn't having it. Cars and chicken buses from both sides of traffic were honking at us while he pleaded his case. Still nothing. I felt so freaking awkward I crouched down under the car windows so no one could see me. Honk! Honk! Beep! Beep! Literally for more than 5 minutes. All I hear is arguing in Spanish. My girlfriend comes out and talks on the speaker to ask them to open the gate so we can at least discuss the issue in person. More honking. More beeping. How awkward and embarrassing!! They knew we had a reservation but they were nitpicking because her brother wasn't a guest or on the reservation. They finally let us in and we get to the front desk to discuss. Our point: we booked the hotel because it included parking. I wasn't expecting an exact spot #15 or whatever that came with the room, but theoretically we presumed we would have a spot available for people who would like to visit us (one at a time, and infrequently. We weren't trying to take advantage). We only had two people visit us during the entire trip, and they never came up to our room or used any of the hotel's amenities. We actually invited one potential business partner to the restaurant for drinks/snacks then we were going to walk around Antigua with him but before we could leave the gate they told us that it was 1-hour free parking for him because he was at the restaurant but then they were going to charge 10 Quetzales for each hour that he left his motorbike in the parking lot. Their point: the free parking offer was for registered guest's vehicles only, and the reason was (mostly) for safety concerns. Our rebuttal: You know very well this hotel is mostly for international visitors or upper-class Guatemalans who aren't going to drive a car here themselves and park. Almost every single guest I saw spoke English (or another European language). We're staying for 5 days, we're eating in the restaurant, ordering room service, tipping generously. We're traveling on American passports. What risk are we besides overindulging and being too loud!? And although 10 Quetzales an hour isn't much, it's a slap in the face for guests, especially those staying for 5 nights. I'm sure parking is relatively tight here, but let's be honest -- this isn't Manhattan. And it was a Monday in March. And I saw the parking lot -- it was not full by any measure. Additionally, a potential business partner visiting us told us that he felt the receptionist or security guard was eyeballing him while he was in the lobby waiting, and he felt very uncomfortable visiting us. A final situation I didn't like was that they have a guard that lets you in and out. It's fast and easy and they're always polite, but I noticed sometimes they looked toward the reception desk for the "ok" for us to enter/leave. I know it's for security but if you think about it you're not really free to leave or enter the hotel as you please. Someone is watching and has to "approve" your entrance/exit. And this was literally 24 hours a day. To be fair, this was the procedure at a more expensive hotel I stayed in last time, so it may be an Antigua thing and not necessarily specific to this hotel. And for full disclosure, even though they tried to charge us a couple times, they ultimately covered it for us after my girlfriend complained. We never paid anything for our guests to park. However, my Guatemalan girlfriend will never, ever come back here. She said she felt humiliated in front of her friends and business partner. I asked her how many stars I should give this review and she said "cero" (zero). I'm personally giving this 4 stars (really 3) because I feel there was way more good than bad here. Plus, this won't affect most travelers so I don't want to hurt their rating, especially post-pandemic. I still recommend this place (for international vacationers), but I wouldn't recommend it if you're a local or planning on doing business or meeting up with anyone. To end on a positive note, the garden walk is absolutely beautiful, especially if you're coming from a winter climate. …
This hotel is on a quiet street and still in walking distance to everything you’ll want to see in Antigua. The grounds have beautiful gardens and the included hot breakfast is fantastic. The room/bathroom/shower were basic but also spacious and comfortable. I would definitely recommend this place if you are looking for comfort at an affordable price.
Breakfast is served in the inside garden, selection of dishes is good. Service at reception is good and speak English at restaurant some of the people speak English. Rooms are spacious and clean. TV control and telephone were rapped.
We wanted to get closer to the airport for an early flight, so we headed to Antigua for one night The hotel was located in a perfect spot to walk around the city. The hotel staff were friendly and helped me with a walking map. We had room service for dinner and free breakfast was included. Rooms were very clean.
This hotel is well-located in the town, although not too close to the central square. It is quite small and the staff friendly. It isnt entirely a fair comment but some staff have little English. Rooms are clean, large and comfortable and accessible directly from garden walkways. The garden is fabulous with many exotic flowers but also coffee and citrus trees. Food is lovely. Would definitely recommend
though a little on the high end in terms of price for comparably situated hotels in Antigua, this small establishment with gorgeous gardens for sitting and walking as well as a full-service restaurant delivering three meals a day and staff with a concern with security makes this a great place for an extended stay of 3 to 5 days. Located just a seven or eight minute walk to the Central Square and off the beaten path a bit it still provides fast access to a laundry, the best Thai restaurant in this part of Guatemala (2 blocks), and easy access to nice walks. Front end is friendly and multilingual, made service is fast, friendly, and impeccable.breakfast is well worth the few extra dollars, and full service with taxi service vans and tour groups and other activities are easily arranged. Added bonus: near three highly regarded language schools. Recommend a room on the highest level with better breezes and Vistas…
