Pro: Room was spacious and clean, with air conditioning in both lounge and bedroom area. Minimal noise disturbance Staff were pleasant. Good location for beach (approx 10 mins walk), though was around 30 min walk into town which may be an issue for some travellers. Ample parking facilities. Cons: Restaurant was closed down, which was not made clear in any way prior to our arrival. There didn't seem to be any bar facilities either, staff seemed to leave early evening in most cases (I believe from other reviews that they've stayed to provide drinks on request) On returning to the hotel each evening (typically around 7-8pm), we would usually find it locked, with all the lounge area/stairs/corridor outside the room in complete darkness, which was not particularly welcoming (as well as being a trip hazard) and gave the place an 'abandoned' feel. These issues wouldn't be significant were it not for the fact that the hotel was classified as 5 star. It was overpriced for what was delivered.

We're just back from a long weekend staying at this lovely hotel in Pula. Before we left for our trip, we did see a negative review on here about this hotel which threw is into a bit of a panic, however we made contact with the hotel and from that point onward the service we received was brilliant! Martina couldn't do enough for us, reassuring us by answering questions the trip advisor review had thrown up as well as booking our taxi to meet us from the hotel. Mr Vulin was there to greet us personally and invited us to check into our room 10am on the morning of our arrival. We also enjoyed a late checkout on the day of our departure, access to the hotel for the day and again, a taxi booked (and local going-rate price agreed) for us. The room was just lovely. We are a family of 4. The room was a superior suite and had 1 double room, 1 twin room, a living room area and a private balcony with comfortable seating. The pictures on the hotel's site are very accurate and I would suggest taken recently. The hotel was very clean, comfortable, secure and air conditioned. I did read reviews on here criticizing the star rating of this hotel. I personally think that is very unfair. There is no global star rating scheme which suggests a 5* hotel in Dubai for example, would or should be matched by a 5* elsewhere. I fully believe this is a deserved rating for a 5* hotel for this area - and if you check the prices, it is not really much more expensive than lesser starred hotels that can't offer the comfort or air conditioning nor deliver the level of service we enjoyed. It is true that the hotel is a little out of the way. But just a little. It is not in the city centre, nor at the beach (which were both very busy with tourists due to it being peak season), but what we really liked about that is that we were in the middle of both of these spots with a short walk and an easy 10 minute bus journey to either destination for about the equivalent of £3.50 for our family fare. Buses ran every 20 minutes up until midnight including Sundays. The children enjoyed the fun of catching the bus with the locals and to be honest, so did I and when we got back to our hotel, we had space and peace and slept brilliantly. No traffic noise, no hustle and bustle of other tourists. The only thing that we did feel was a terrible shame is that there were so few guests. I think during our 3 night break there was only 1 other room booked for part of the time and this is peak season! It's such a shame because it's such a wonderful place to stay. We do suggest people take Trip Advisor reviews as a subjective review by someone who may not have exactly the same needs, wants or ideas as you. We read comments about the restaurant being closed etc. We were invited to dine in the restaurant and offered breakfast. We declined as we wanted to keep a free schedule and get out and about exploring as much as we could but the offer was there and I am absolutely in no doubt that had we booked for dinner or breakfast, the food and service would have been great. I would recommend this hotel to others, particularly families and couples - anyone who can walk for 5 minutes to a bus stop really. Thank you Mr Vulin and your team. Thank for a lovely stay and for your warm and generous hospitality.

Villa Vulin is a well appointed hotel but the restaurant was closed. About a ten minute taxi from town centre, so the on site restaurant would have been convenient. Nearby restaurant was excellent though. Staff at the hotel were very helpful. In the evening the receptionist doubled as the bar person and this was not very efficient although the lady was charming and tried to be helpful. Rooms were ample and clean with all the required facilities.

The hotel is a good 25mins walk from the city centre but we wanted to stay where parking would not be a problem - there were loads of spaces just outside the hotel under a cover. The staff were extremely helpful. Being late September, the hotel was quiet and we were delighted to be able to check in early and check out late so we could make the most of our short time in Pula. Breakfast costs extra but it was worth it for the quality - everything was served to our table. The room was very spacious and the hotel generally is in very good condition. Happy to recommend.

If you like a luxurious, quiet, friendly place to stay Villa Vulin is superb. We are a family of four (two teenage children) and we stayed in July for four nights. We had a suite of rooms with a living area, two bedrooms and a bathroom. There was also a private spacious balcony. The staff at the hotel were friendly and very helpful; Roxi, the receptionist even noticed that it was my husband's birthday during our stay and surprised us with a delicious cake when we returned from a long day out! We spent time at the beach near the hotel where the water was warm enough for swimming and there were kayaks and pedalos to hire. We had several trips into Pula, a fascinating city with amazing Roman ruins, quaint alleyways, and many good restaurants. We hired a taxi for a day to take us to Rovinij, an absolute must if you are visiting this area. It's called the Venice of Croatia. The taxi was much more convenient for us than an organised tour and since there were four of us, it cost about the same. We had a great time and will definitely return. Thank you to Mr. Vulin and your staff for a lovely holiday!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the beautiful Villa Vulin. The hotel is very nice, very clean and well appointed. When we arrived we were greeted by the lovely Roxi who was very helpful and friendly. We enjoyed a fantastic breakfast every morning served by the courteous and attentive Sasha. Mr. Vulin was frequently at the hotel and is a very nice gentleman. I lost the key to the safe in the room and he was so nice about replacing it and only charged us the small price to have another key made. Our room on the third floor was very spacious and always clean. We had a lovely veranda which overlooked a small park full of pine trees and also had a slight view of the sea off in the distance. It was a great place to enjoy a capucino in the morning or a glass of wine at the end of the day. There is a great beach within walking distance or just a 5 minute drive. There was plenty of parking along the road at the nearest beach. There were also a couple of other nice beaches that Roxi suggested but we ended up liking the one closest to the hotel. Villa Vulin is a great central and quiet location when staying in Pula. We had a rental car and there is plenty of free parking at the hotel. We day tripped around the area and were always glad to get back home to our quiet oasis. I was slightly disapointed that the hotel restaurant was not open for dinner yet. Apparently the chef had not arrived for the season. I would imagine that the food would be very good as the breakfast was very fresh and quite good. I would recommend booking a room with breakfast included. We can't wait to return!

The local is off the beaten path in Pula which is nice. The parking is great at the hotel. Most of Pula has horrible parking which you pay for. This hotel you do not have to pay for it. The rooms are nicely equipped. The shower and provided toiletries were also very nice. The bed slept comfy. The tv was great with a couple of English news channels. AC works great which is nice after spending the hot day in the sun. Super friendly owner and wife work there. It felt like we were staying at mom's house and we joke it was mom and dad and sister working there. So why not a five star? Couple of issues that did not make a huge deal but could have. We asked the young front desk lady to book us a taxi for an early morning for a ferry to Italy. It appears she forgot which made us run around to get there at the last minute early in the morning. Not a big deal, just I would make my own reservations and not worry others. There is a phone in the room that has local calls. Next issue, same young lady "lost" the room key when it was returned. The owner, who spoke limited English, was extremely worried about the key for over a day (note we left for Italy overnight). She even forgot that we gave her the key after asking personally were the key was. Also about the keys, they are laid on the front desk when the staff goes out of the hotel. So anyone can have access to your room while your gone. Maybe there's no theft issue in the area of Pula but seems to me there's a breakdown when it comes to keys. All in all- loved the hotel and would be back if in the Pula area again. Would recommend to stay here.

Response from Vaso V, Owner at Villa Vulin
Responded 26 Jul 2017
Dear Karyn, we have to correct some of the things you said. The maid isn't the owners wife. The young lady called the taxi - the taxi arrived 15 minutes late. She didn't forget. She even told you she will have to talk to the taxi driver since he failed at picking you up. Forgot that? Seems so. The keys were never lost - she put them in a place and never checked for it because she thought someone else from the staff has it, since it's used daily and not by her. Mistakes happen. Why even writing about it? Keys are laid out on the reception for the guests to just take them instead of going behind the desk, when the reception is ''closed''. Nobody will enter your room. If someone wants to, they will be caught on tape.

I have today returned from a weekend in Croatia staying at this hotel. I am an avid user of TripAdvisor when making my travel plans, and I am now reflecting on how I can make fair reviews-helpful to the place I am reviewing along with potential customers. Take what you will from this...Here goes! We had a hire car which was useful for this hotel- it had plenty of parking whilst we were here. The female receptionist and male waiter were an asset to Villa Vulin, you could see they work hard to do their best. The suite we had was a decent size and clean. I think it is best suited to retired couples, who are happy for a more remote location and authentic Croatian vibe.

Response from Vaso V, Owner at Villa Vulin

Vaso V, Owner at Villa Vulin, responded to this review Dear family Price, thank you for your lovely words. We want to let you know we're not upset that you left us a low rating even though the review itself is nice. However, we do know why you gave us such a bad rating. Upon your arrival, we asked you if you wanted breakfast which was not included in the price after what you showed us a document from hotels.com , saying that the breakfast is included in the price. The owner of the hotel did not find trouble serving the breakfast (20 Euros per perosn) for you, but the way that you tried to scam us. The owner sent you and hotels.com an e-mail, asking who will pay for the breakfast since it's not included. The next morning, you refused to eat the breakfast, nor did you offer to pay for the breakfast that you did have the day before. We're still awaiting for the agencies to get back to us on this matter - since this is clearly a big mistake they made. I hope that if the agency contacts us, saying you have to pay for that, you will pay for it. We will send all the documents regards this matter and ask TripAdvisor to delete this low rating. Kind regards, Vaso Vulin

Visited for two nights with my wife and daughter. We stayed in a two bedroom suite with a terrace and views across pine forests. It was clean and well equipped. Very friendly and attentive staff, superb breakfast. Excellent secluded beach with bar (Pomidor) and crystal clear waters about 5 mins walk. Several restaurants further along coast. 10m cab journey downtown (€12) or 30m walk. Pula is a lovely historic city. Highly recommended.
