If you were looking for the worst hostel with the most incompetent staff in the whole of Zadar (and probably Croatia) then look no further! I arrived at the hostel and paid in full, only to find my allocated bed occupied by a large woman who had spent the entire afternoon lying, sweating, eating and drinking in my bed. I pointed out to the staff that this was not really acceptable - I know it’s a hostel and not the Ritz - the least you expect though is to have a clean bed on arrival to the place. I went to reception to complain and they did absolutely nothing. The next day I receive a call from them telling me that I have to change beds - the call comes in the early afternoon and means I have to cut short my sightseeing as apparently it’s imperative that this is done immediately. I go to the reception and change beds to them actually means change hostel... The hostel that they then take me to is obviously a step down from the one I had already booked and paid in full for. In this new hostel (part of their chain) the room is tiny, boiling hot and smells absolutely abysmal. On top of this, it’s located on one of the busiest street street in Zadar so it is incredibly noisy all night. The bathrooms are filthy and shared between far too many people to be even remotely convenient. There was a “locker” provided and I was shown mine, I opened it to find another person’s things in there - evidently the same key opens all the lockers in the whole place which is obviously far from ideal from a security point of view. Add to the security concerns that the doors to the building and rooms were constantly open and the locks not fit for purpose. A cursory glance at the internet clearly illustrates that the hostel I was moved to is cheaper than the one I initially paid for in full before I was arbitrarily moved due to the incompetence of the staff in handling their bookings - you’d think that this was literally the most basic of basic job requirements for a hostel. I went to complain to the management about this on my departure and showed them the pages on the internet that supported my point. Instead of being anything even remotely approaching helpful the staff were rude and inept - at least this is consistent. After I made my points the manager decided to storm off and leave saying that I should simply voice my opinion on TripAdvisor and muttering something about taxes and it being difficult. It’s patently obviously that they knew they were in the wrong but simply couldn’t be bothered to deal with my concerns. Quite simply, this was an entirely abject experience with some of the most useless, rude, and unpleasant staff I have ever had the misfortune of dealing with. Zadar is a beautiful place and well worth a visit; however, if you stay at any of the hostels operated by oldtownhostel.hr you will have your experience significantly diminished. There are a huge number of other places that you can and should stay in this city where you can avoid having this sort of experience. Truly, one of the worst experiences I have ever had with any hotel / hostel in any part of the world - do yourself a favour and book somewhere else.

The hostel is perfectly located in the old town of Zadar, very close to the Sea Organ and the Greetings to the Sun. Lot‘s of bars and restaurants are nearby but you also can use the kitchen there. The bed was my personal highlight! In all my trips I never had such a good mattress :) I really can recommend this place!

We stayed in two bunk beds in a dormitory room of 4. The room was clean and had some storage place, and the bed was comfortable. There were two electric sockets for each bed, so charging our telephones was no problem. The reception, located on a different small street, took care of two other properties so the entrance can be crowded. It had a business/professional feel to it, but staff was nice and efficient. The shared bathroom only had plastic accordion doors even for toilets, and I did not like it...
